I appreciate the sentiment, you should want to take good care of your cats and keep them safe. I'm not saying you have to put your cat out. But I had two very good childhood friends get run over by a drunk driver. I still plan to let my children outside even though it's a dangerous world for people.
I think the cat assassin used to live in my apartment complex. On the weekends he would regularly keep his door open while he was hanging out with his friends, and when stupid neighborhood cats would go wander inside his door, he proceeded to kick them off of his balcony. But you know what, none of them ever died and none of them ever returned to his door, perhaps that is the answer.... If you see a cat trespassing on your space, kick them.
I've never noticed cat crap in my life. They are kind enough to bury it. And if your neighbors have cats in heat, they need to get their cats fixed. Though they may just be feeding wild cats, and they don't consider the cats their pets, but rather feel bad for the cats. If it is the case that a cat is not fixed and belongs to a neighbor I would tell them to keep their cat inside, get them fixed(regardless of sex), or you call animal control. An unfixed cat leads to a real problem later.
Sheesh. What's next? Prohibiting your neighbor from shaking out his rugs in his backyard if the wind blows in your direction? No mowing the grass when the wind kicks up the dust in your direction? Should I deodorize my garbage?
Hey I may dislike cats, but they are God's creature none-the-less and I wouldnt do this, I was just chronicling the actions of my drunk neighbor in college.
I posted this earlier responding to someone else and nobody answered. I think it is the most appropriate question on this thread. I wanted to bring up the mountain lion comparison, but thought better of it. If I decided to get one as a pet, would it be okay for him to go in your yard and do as he pleases because that is his nature? Or should I be responsible for him and make sure to keep him off of your property and on mine, because he is my pet? What is the differrence? You can substitute any animal for mountain lion and how should this change the outcome? Why do cat owners seem to be the only ones who don't understand this?
Oh come on that is not even close to the same thing.......if you have kids or a wife that is allergic to cat dander and you have furniture on a porch in the back yard that neighbors cats get on and leave their ..uh..dander.... What would you do? Shouldn't your yard be .....well...yours? DD
Actually had a neighbor's son come complain about that when I was a kid. The dust unfortunately was blowing toward his car. The horror. The son was just visiting. We had old retired people next door who were pretty nice, even if their son was a douche.
EXACTLY !!! Because they are irresponsible pet owners, who are putting their pets in danger because they feel their pet wants to be outside. In the meantime they don't have to deal with Mr. Kitty while he is out crapping in their neighbors yard. DD
Fair enough. This is exactly why mine will never be let outside. Sick, sick mentality. Cat's have the average intelligence of a one year old human child. If they happen to wonder into you house because someone left the door open, I'd hope you wouldn't actually kick it.
OK. Real advice. The next time you see the cat in your yard: Shew it away. Vigorously. Run up and scare it. Throw a small rock. Shoot it with a water pistol. Repeat. Cats are pretty smart. It'll get the message. Or be amused and turn it into a game.
