Why do the comercial? They can digitally change the uniform he is wearing to whatever the real one looks like. Not a big deal if you ask me. I don't see any reason to believe that Tim is not telling the truth.
Im betting that is Les's deal. He's not from Houston, doesn't live in Houston, and probably does not care about Houston representation. For those reasons I doubt we will see Houston on the road jerseys.
Does it not seem odd that Cat is the Rock in the uni? If he really is trade bait would they not have gone for Stevie? (Or Moochie, he is untradable, after all.)
I knew it! Yesterday, in the early hours, back when the board assumed that the league had threatened Clutch with a lawsuit, this was my initial hunch: Makes sense. Clutch did the right thing by running the story. And Tim did the right thing by asking for its removal. I'm still scratching my head, though, over how a "prototype" was used in a commercial. The Rockets, like all serious companies, guard their brand with a watchdog's vigilance. You'd never see a Coke commercial that had some alternate logo, and really was part of some failed brainstorming meeting. Or a Nike commercial that has some rogue intern's idea for a more streamlined swoosh (maybe a swoosh with teeth). Same with the Rockets---they're just too smart for that. Why would they ever dress poor Cat in a jersey that was never meant to see the light of day, especially for a national audience? Unless they THOUGHT it was final, and have since changed their minds? Still puzzled . . . My guess, though, is that Team Tim will still be able to comfortably hold off on the unveiling. While we're all very vocal here, by no means do we account for the lion's share of the fanbase. Your average Rockets fan still hasn't seen the pic. And they probably won't. In a few days this'll die down, and we'll once again be grumbling about Mobley, bemoaning Moochie's contract, and conducting polls about a dream matchup between the "before and after" squads---the 1993 and 1997 Rockets. Oh, and again-- I love the unis! Can't wait until it's official.
Good going, sway. You made their kids cry because of your stupid leak! It may be a prototype, but I get the feeling it must have been similar enough to the final version for the NBA to be willing to put it in the commercial. We only get a vague idea of the look of the uni from the picture, and I can't imagine those basic elements would change. Various miscellany: It seems that this BBS is the only place where Cat is considered trade bait. Have you not yet been given enough indications by the Rockets that they don't intend to trade him? What is with all these posters patting themselves on the backs these days? In all honesty, we don't care if you guessed right.
Tim, thanks for all the info! you rock! btw, what kind of punishment will sway receive? I think that the good ole American tradition of "bare bottom spanking" is in order. sorry sway (keep up the good work )
Heh. Frankly, I'm as baffled as the rest of you as to why the NBA would want to use a prototype jersey in a TV spot. We didn't know they were even doing the spot until we saw the picture on NBA Taiwan and started making phone calls. My best guess is that they got Cuttino to agree to making the spot a while back, realized just before the shoot that they didn't have a current uniform to put him in, and made the best out of it on the fly. Even if the prototype is off some, it wouldn't look as out-of-whack as it would if they showed him in last year's jersey. The prototype is close enough that if you shoot the right angles, it might look close enough to the real thing that it would work for the commercial. We'll get the full story in the next few days. Tim
I don't know Tim, I think this conspiracy theory stuff is just a lot more fun than just trusting you, the VP of marketing.
Tim, I gotta say I really enjoy reading your posts, they actually have some merit to them with you being the VP of marketing for the Rockets. However, one quick question, might be a dumb one, but why has the team waited until September to unveil the uniforms? I know (from reports) that the first version was not approved, but if I remember correctly weren't there many different versions of the uniforms shown to players during the end of the season last season? Couldn't the materials for the new jersey have been found by now? Just figured the team wanted to give the public more time to buy the new gear. Despite what the detractors say, I think the logo is great, and the team is doing a great job, thanks for your time.
Tim, you are the man. Whether people here believe you or not, they gotta love the fact that our teams VP of Marketing is here to talk about it with us.
They didn't ask him about the upcoming season, they asked him about the uniforms, what was he supposed to do say nothing? "Cat what do you think about the new logo and uniforms" "Sorry I can't say anything, I'm worried about the upcoming season!" Unfortunately he isn't being sarcastic.
The Rocks are so disorganized right now. They let their SF go and don't replace him. Mobley's a lock to be traded before the start of the season and he's showing off the new jerseys. They might as well go all out and have Karl Malone doing promos for upcoming Rockets games!
From the affore mentioned Taiwanese site: ????????????? ???????? ?????????? ???????? URL???(??????) ?????????? ?????????? ?????? ??????????????? If this is the new uniform, I don't get it...
Why do people keeping saying this? Every time the Rockets indicate they don't want to trade Mobley, it is evidence they don't know what they are talking about? When Van Gundy was talking about the core of the team and listed Yao, Francis, and Mobley, was he secretly trying to boost the man's stock? Btw, Tim, the league uses your players for promos and don't include you in the loop? That's messed up. I'd think that using your team's star in an NBA ad would be very relevant to the Rockets' own marketing. But, then what do I know.
