Well enjoy Dream now because he is likely gone after this season. Then where will we be? Cato better comeback and make an impact because we need it BADLY, not just for now, but for the future as well. ------------------ Dream a deadly Dream. . .
This is one of the problems with the NBA: "what other option do we have", or "we have to forsake other talented players with legitimate skills for a big stiff because you can't teach size". Fact is, Cato hasn't been on the floor all year, and the Rockets are doing just fine without him. If the Rockets have a chance to move him, then I say AU REVOIR!! GET HIS CONTRACT OFF THE BOOKS!! There are no less than 3 "Catos" available in every draft in case your worried about next year. I'd rather have Pig Miller on the team, at least he can catch a pass. ------------------ Who's better: Kelvin Cato or Joe Barry Caroll? Take your time!
What ever happened to pig? Did he ever play? I never saw him? ------------------ "I think the people who believed the world was flat were pretty stupid. You would think at least those living near mountains would know better." - P. Mesku
Irrelevance.....Cato himself hasn't been an option this season. Our options are Olajuwon and Collier, or going back to making Maurice Taylor play center. Cato isn't an option due to his constant injuries. So maybe we need to look into other options. ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
That's true, which means he does have a place in our offense, especially when he came off the bench with Cat. But does he do it any better than Rogers. Haven's scouting report is spot on, too. It all leads you back to Live's assessment that HOOP-T distilled down quite well: "Cato is not an option." Examining all these critical quotes, it is safe to say that Clutch pulled a sunshine ass quote by Sane out of this thread for the "BSS Hot Topic". That's heypocrasy, I say.
I think Haven nailed it. Cato has not been an option and probably will never be able to be counted on. I think Los rebounds as well, moves without the ball better and does a decent job blocking shots and out hustles Cato. I would rather try to bring Collier along, than waste time on Cato. At least he can shoot away from the basket. ------------------
Hey hey hey, don't go bashing my quote!! lol... The thing is, Cato has shown flashes, and flashes are enough hope for some people. About his style, doesn't Ratliff fit in perfectly with the sixers? How much range does HE have? how much does IVERSON slash? There's always place for him....He was signed cause he fit in to the offense... You're right, I have nothing to back my statements up. Even I don't consider that ONE pre-season game a glimpse of hope. No, I'm basing it on sudden flashes, which will turn into consistency once he's outta this phase. That brings the number down to 68. Out of 68 Centers, i rate Cato better than 50 of them. That's AT THE MOMENT, AFTER NOT SEEING HIM PLAY FOR AGES. I'm sure he's better than that, and he's easily one of the top 20 Cs in the league. One of the top 8 shotblocking Cs. One of the top 6 fastest Cs. There's still hope. But you're right, he's left a lot to be desred, but u can't give hope up, not yet.. ------------------
Wow Sane... u went all out on that 1. ------------------ PrEsident of The Danforth Langhford FAN CLUB... He IS our future All-Star Small Forward
Sane: How about a center that suits our style offense? Like, presumably one who can actually shoot jumpers? Cato is a LANE CLOGGER. Of course, he hasn't had much of a CHANCE to clog the lane htis year... More than anything else, my problem with what you're saying is that you have NOTHING to back your assertions up. Cato has NEVER been a good player... he couldn't GET playing time in Portland, and didn't even excel in COLLEGE. I mean, he wasn't even a great player at Iowa State. Reliance on Rockets's management is nice, but it's not like they're infallible. See: Matt Malone, Turkcan, Tabak, etc. They do good things, but they also goof from time to time. Cato was a BIG GOOF. Cato's DEMONSTRATED positive attributes: heighth, athleticism DEMONSTRATED negative attributes: injury plagued, no shot, propensity to foul, poor team defense, mediocre rebounding for size, bad hands, no footwork Given that scouting report, what makes you want Cato? Of course, feel free to disagree, just show me where I'm wrong, Sane. ------------------ Shandon Anderson rocks. The lottery sucks. Playoffs 2001.
Cuttino seemed to play well with Cato when he was in, I remember several occasions where Cat would drive and dish to Cato for a dunk. ------------------ Don't come in Bullard's house!
Brendan Haywood wood fit well. Oops!!! I seriously wrote that. oh well. ------------------ The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?
I say play Cato big time, there is hope that he dominates the next couple of games and then...............trade his A$$ off. ------------------ Baseball is wrong, a man with four balls can't walk.
LOL.. you just made me remember playoffs 1996 I think it was, when we played the sonics in second round (when he had horry, and cassel and elie).. 4th game, (we're down 0-3) we're loosing bad in the last quarter, but some little kid on the sideline was standing with the mascot and holding a big sign "I STILL BELIEVE".. damn, I had goosebumps all over and especially when they came back to force overtime.. unfortunatelly, we went on to loose in the OT, but that specific moment I don't think I'll ever forget, I still believe baby.. ------------------ against all odds
First off Cato is anything but a lane-clogger. Second, he is not paid or asked to shoot jumpers. Cato is paid to Rebound and block shots, and most of all, more than anything, he is asked to make his prescence felt on defense(Which I thought he did a decent job of doing last year) Now, that has nothing to do with regestiring block shots on stat-sheets, but has more to do with not allowing an opposing team a free-lane to the basket, or forcing an opposing player to settle for outside and middle distance shots when normally inclined to drive. Now, if anybody here watched the Rockets last year, you can not honestly tell me that Cato did not change the complexion of the game defensively the way I just stated above. Oh yeah, and what in the hell is the deal with this Cato is injury-proned garbage? What? The kid sprains his upper ankle - which I hear is a persistent b**** - and he all of sudden is proclaimed to be injury-proned/plagued for the rest of his career. Cato is injury proned is not a correct statement, so end that myth now, before you injure your pinky by typing such repetitive nonsense. ------------------ [This message has been edited by ROCKETBOOSTER (edited February 15, 2001).]
Pig Miller was signed by the Houston Rockets earlier this year. He was expected to grab rebounds and help this team with his hustle, but when Kenny Thomas and Maurice Taylor got over the flu there was no more room for Pig. Pig was cut from the Houston Rockets roster. ------------------
I love cato, but he is injury-prone ------------------ President of the Charles Barkley fan club...Oh he retired? When?
He is, however, in town. At least he was until a few days ago. When the rockets had an 'optional practice' after some holiday or sumsuch, he was there, playing one-on-one with Cato. This was according to someone on Star610. I don't remember exact date/time but it was roughly 1-2 weeks ago and stuck with me 'cause I thought it was somewhat odd.
