Please, please, please no more mentioning that sorry center from Arizona who we will leave nameless. I am baffled at why he is even considered a lottery pick. I have not seen one thing out of him that even remotely resembles NBA material. If Cato comes back and plays like he did last year I would rather have him than wasting even a 2nd rounder on Woods(maybe the 2nd rnd thing is an exaggeration but you know what I mean). ------------------ "We need to fockass".....Dream back in the day
I agree Scarface...Woods is going to go high but he's like a tissue paper and with an even softer heart (at least in terms of the whole Wake Forest fiasco). If we draft a center--which I wouldn't mind (I'm one of the few around here who can tolerate Walt), I hope we go after Brendan Haywood or, if at all possible (which it's not), package something to move up and get Curry. If we draft a SF, though, I wouldn't mind having Woods' teammate--Richard Jefferson. ------------------
Premph: No, way! Clutch wrote a little review last year during the tournament games. If i recall correctely he attended a game thet involved Brendan Haywood playin' with Northe Carolina. Clutch voice total displasure with this man you speak about, and he saw no potential whatsoever. Don't doubt the Clutch, he's no blindberry. I believe Cato will develop a jump hook. ------------------ [This message has been edited by ROCKETBOOSTER (edited December 02, 2000).]
I think Clutch should take another look at Haywood (this time without the blindfold ). ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
Most consider shandon small for the three, Sprewell is one inch shorter and less muscular. The Knicks only use him there because they have no other choice if they want to have Latrell and Houston co-exist. I thought you meant either or with the slash. Sorry Bob
"He has been in the weight room constantly but cannot run full speed yet." I've been waiting to see Cato run full speed for over a year. Not much chance it will happen now. ------------------
Most of you read publications stating that the Hawks STARTING price for talks with the Knicks is Camby + Sprewell or Houston. I haven't read any proposals here which would tempt them more than the Camby+ deal AND satisfy the CBA. Steve and Cat are the Rocks calling cards and their not going anywhere - at least mot for Latrell.' Cato developing a jump hook is a reasonable thing to believe. It is not that hard to learn especially for players with broad shoulders who work out with weights. As far his Cato's foot speed, wasn't he at the front of the press the Rockets used in the first game? ------------------ GATER
I would never question CD's ability to show a big man a few moves. He's been doing that since his college days. Don't just mark up Moses and Hakeem as success stories of improvment. More recently, Othella and Kevin Willis learned the positioning and spacing of the "bigman offense" from Carroll. So I view this as extremely good news. I have never doubted Cato's ability. Adding to his repertoire is a plus, no matter how you feel about him. Now if we can just get him to produce. Just a thought to ponder: We all (myself included) have posted derogatory "Cato-isms". And he sometimes may have been more than eager to confirm the truth in some of them. But realistically, there are not too many starting centers in this league that make less than $5-6 Million a year. When we go (if we go) shopping for a center it just may end up costing us considerably more than $5-6 Million. ------------------ [This message has been edited by oeilpere (edited December 04, 2000).]
Cato adding a jump hook? Still? I thought he was supposed to have added a jump hook over the summer. But then again, he was supposed to have stopped arguing with the refs this year. ------------------ "We make a lot, but we spend a lot." Patrick Ewing, alumnus, Georgetown University
I completely agree with you, oeilpere, there aren't going to be many centers with as many raw tools as Cato that has a contract below 5-6 mil (and for that long, too)...BUT...as far as I'm concerned, I'd rather have a center that's not as gifted and pay him just as much and maybe more if I knew the guy was a winner and had a good attitude. I know Cato was supposed to have fixed all that stuff over the summer, but some of the crap we saw from him last year is hard to forget. Hell, even in the preseason this year, I remember he was quoted as saying, "The coaches can live with the way I'm playing since we're winning." That is straight b.s. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I flat out don't like the guy's demeanor, and I think it would be worth it to get rid of the guy even if it meant bringing in someone a little less skilled/athletic so long as he actually gives a damn. ------------------
