leebigez,

You're right. Most starters (except centers) get around 33-34 mpg. But, a quick look at playoff teams, there are excellent cases of starting PF and swingmen not getting more than 30mpg.

Fox plays 25-28 minutes as a starter in each of the last 2 championships. Divac is right at 30. Adrian Griffin started on 23mpg. Joe Smith got 26mpg. Van Horn got exactly 30mpg. The proper question is more "how many Stars don't get more than 30mpg." Reaching back in history...you will recall more Finals teams like this as well. Knicks had a revolving SF in 94, Donald Royal for the Magic, Adam Keefe, many Pistons, Ricky Pierce as a leading scorer on a 55-27 team, Kucok in his one starting yr with Jordan, Buck Williams on Drexler's team, AC Green of the Lakers,

Neither Kenny nor Mo are Stars, so they have to learn to deal with it like Horry and Fox. Plus, Mo just can't really even play "Star" minutes, or he leads the league in fouls. He had 3.9 fouls on 35min as a Clipper, which would have been 2nd in the NBA this year behind Kurt Thomas. He had 3.0 on 27 mpg with us 2 yrs ago. He is one dimensional, and not a star.

The only thing we can ask from Cato is to work as hard as possible. From The first game last year up to now, he has done JUST that.

Don't give me this "dogging it" stuff. He worked hard last year. even when the team lost all hope, and he didn't need to play, and was actually injured, he played through it and played hard for that matter.

Steve Francis is happy with Cato's production last season. So is Rudy T, so is Carroll Dawson.

Cato will NEVER average a triple-double. the problem here is that, you guys can't get that image of the triple double out of your minds, and blame Cato for his 42-million. ONLY management is to blame for his contract, which I personally think is not overpaying. He was offered the contract, and there's no one in the whole world who would turn it down. He's trying, he's hustling, showing heart, working out during the offseason, and is NOT sulking. You can't ask a player to do more than what he can do. But Cato CAN start for a playoff team, but lucky us, he has Ming to help him.

About our frontcourt rotation, I find it very difficult to believe that Cato, Ming, MoT, Griffin, KT, Rice, and Boki will find minutes in the frontcourt. Then there's Collier and T-Mo who would take up the IR space.

YOU TELL ME ONE TEAM THAT WAS IN THE PLAYOFFS THAT WOULD HAVE TRADED THEIR CENTER FOR CATO.

You are a work of art!! Maybe I was a little harsh in calling you "In - Sane"... "Sane Cato"

New Jersey would have traded for Cato instead of McCullough.

So does this mean that in prior seasons, Cato's only motivation was playing time? Did he not care about winning after he signed his 42 million dollar contract?

He had better enjoy playing behind Yao because with any luck at all, thats where he will be.

So, Cato says exactly what everyone wants to hear -

He welcomes Ming and hopes he can contribute to the team. Winning is above all.

We bash him now for what?

The thing is that Cato doesn't relly care about bball. The guy was blessed with the height and athletic ability to be good, but bball is not his thing. I dont fault him for it, he made a great decision by playing in the NBA. I think that Cato will be a very good backup center like Keon Clark and with him coming off the bench he'll face lesser competition which will help him a lot. I am betting that he puts up similar or better numbers from last year this season.

HeyP, i know exactly what you're saying and i thhink we agree on it,but even with Van Horns 30 mins he was whining. When Thomas got hurt and Rudy limited him in coming back because Griffin was playing well, he started whining. Look at Cato's face when Rudy takes him of the floor because of his ineffectiveness. I look at a guy like fox and he realizes being an older player that he's in a great situation with shaq and Kobe. Fox remembers what it was like to play 35mins per on a losing team so that a little different. If i were 24-25yrs old and had proved i could playing the nba, i don't think i would want to be limited to 20mins a game. I'm all for depth, but I think depth is what it is depth.A good starter will play 35+mins per night. A marginal player will occupy the 20-25 min range type player. Ideally the bench for the rockets bench would consist of Norris,Torres,Morris or Rice,Cato and someone like Funderburke,Ty Hill or someone like that. Those players i listed are bench players who would be content coming off the bench. Just like Sacremento, they have 1 now 2 guys who are starting type nba players and thats Hedo and Clark. The rest of the bench are if they're starting for your team, then your team isn't very good at that spot. Bobby Jackson started on a poor Denver team, Pollard couldn't crack the sorry pistons team and funderburke and the others are vagabonds.it will be interesting how it plays out. If they're winning it will be ok, but if some losing streak jumps in, then you'll hear mumblings.

I think Cato will be good for Yao Ming. Cato is typical of the centers YM will face and will be a good practice dummy... ;) :D

Cato for Miller anyone? I'm sure this has been proposed a million times... ;)
