Cato lost weight this summer and came into camp in shape. He wants to be out there. He's strong. Man I'm impressed. I hope he keeps playing hard all year.
Cato's only going to improve, because the more he plays, the more weight he'll lose. As long as he plays a lot, and gets into better game condition, he'll only improve his offense because his jumpshot will come easier with less weight. I love the way Cato's playing/talking/training. He's going to make Ming's transition SO much easier than it would've been if we traded him.
It really is a strange development. Cato is playing like we've always wanted him to and in the physical condition that we've always desired. It's weird. I love it! If this is evidence of how Kelvin will play this year... wow, what an astounding stroke of good fortune. He was approaching the foaming-at-the-mouth, take no prisoners, swat everything in sight Cato of the mystical pre-season (that produced "The Contract") at times in Denver. Howling and showing Yao the effort that he's going to have to put out to be successful in The League. Amazing.
To me he's almost playing that "enforcer" role that we were looking for. I always knew that's a role he could play, b/c there's times when you see the mean in him. I hope he can keep this kind of hustle up all year!
He will be the FIVE TIME, FIVE TIME, FIVE TIME, FIVE TIME, FIVE TIME leading rebounder in the league.
Absolutely. His present play is not only a great example for Yao, it is the perfect compliment to Yao Mings style. Cato - the scowling, defensive minded "enforcer" and Yao - the low-keyed, sure handed, sweet touch shooter. Two different posts styles for opponents to prepare for! To paraphrase an old Magic Johnson quote - "At this level everyone's good...it all comes down to attitude". Go Kelvin!
I think Cato wasn't traded because probably no made a decent offer for him. Now that he is playing well, Rockets might want to keep him. But they might get an offer they cannot refuse!!!
Cato, a man. Wow. Maybe there are the playoffs this year. Possibly even Santa Claus? This from a KC basher. Man, give me no soup today!
Naw, they don't look alike, but they do always have their mouth open gasping for air when on the court or in the ring. Ever notice that?? Every time they show Cato, his mouth is wide open gasping, same thing for Booker T, but his gasping is a little more "exaggerated".
Very impressive! You can just tell by the interview that he's a good guy and is very protective of Yao...He's played with alot of heart this year...
I can't believe this thread exists and remains so positive, but I like it! Earlier in the summer I predicted that this would be Cato's breakout season, hopefully he keeps it up!
It is hard to believe one's eyes. No matter the 100 posts I've seen about trading Cato - which is an impossibility given his salary - this guy has shown hustle and toughness. What is up with that? Better conditioning helps a great deal no doubt, but so far the guy's playing with (gasp) heart. He has always talent, but where the heck is his head right now? Yao taking his job at some point is not "it" in my opinion. Steve finally making more money than he does isn't "it". E. Griff's block parties aren't it. Watching an injured and under appreciated KT quietly frothing at the mouth isn't it. Seeing a 22 year old alien getting bi-culturally dissected isn't it either. Ladies and gentlemen I think we are seeing the most unlikely of the Rocket pups actually mature (28 yrs. old > never). Forget his salary, there's nothing he can do about that now. I want improvement this year as a team and from every individual more than I want a playoff spot. Improvement from Cato, of all people bodes well for for this season.
Cato doesn't suck anymore. Collier suck all the suck out of Cato. Now if Collier could just take all the suck out of Yao Ming and Rudy would play Yao Ming behind Cato instead of suck a$$ Collier that would be great...
Way too harsh, Ricerock. Cato deserves all the accolades he is receiving and Collier deserves none of the derogatory remarks. Collier scored, rebounded, boxed out -- all that you would want from a second-string center much less a third-stringer. And he accomplished it as a PF.
