Dirk is way to mobile for Cato to keep up with. Cato will be fouling him left and right, or just letting him go to the basket hoping Yao will pick him up and end up getting yao in Foul trouble. With the 4's that are more inside i think he can put a body on them but the new breed of 4's he will have a problem with.
True. There are more and more "Combo Foward" coming into the NBA like Dwight Howard and Tiago Splitter next year. Not a good thing for Cato though.
True, but those guys are trouble for ANYBODY, not just Cato and the Rockets. Whenever I get down thinking about the Dirks and Tims, I just think to myself, "Who they got at center?"
So few true post players today. Is it because the game has changed or this planet doesn't produce that type of talents no more?
Some said that Cato could not guard guys like Garnett or Duncan. They sounded like Griffin would do a better job in guarding these two superstars. What they did not realize was that they were kidding themselves. No one, including Yao, on this Rox squad can guard Garnett or Duncan better than Cato! If you use guarding Garnett and Duncan as the reason, you must play Cato at power forward position.
You're kiddin' right? Man, if you put Yao on Duncan, I guranteed you he will shut Duncan down and will make him useless. The problem is the Rockets don't want to do that cuz that's not his position i guess. But if JVG let Cato play C and Yao guard Duncan, that would shut the Spurs down and cripple their offense. I don't think Duncan can do a damm thing with Yao guarding him.
Yes, that was proven when Rocket faced SA last year. Also, in VG's sytem, the centre and the PF are easily intercheageable in their positions. If the other team wants to double team Yao, fine, he can come out to the PF position and let Cato go inside. If the double team does not follow Yoa, Yao can take a jump shot for over 50%. If they do follow, then the ball will be moved to Cato for a dunk! Haha.
Like every team with two capable big men does. Which goes back to why Van Gundy will be our best pick up this off season because we need someone who can run our current crop. Not the crop of 94' or 95', which Rudy was a master of, but that was a rare crop. This crop needs croppin and VanGundy gonna get to croppin um down....I am typing on two Ambien....brain falling.....post tomorroww....
Just a quick question. Everyone seems to be talking about playing Cato at the 4. How about Yao at the 4 when they are on the floor together since he has a better shot? I don't think Yao would be good at the 4, but just a thought.
Okay, you got your random post to glorify Duncan in, now maybe we can talk about how they would match up if Cato was on the other side. How would Duncan guard that? Granted, Duncan will get his shots, but what myself and most people on the board are concerned with is how Yao will get his shots.
I think Cato is the second most loved rox, after Yao. Steve is much loved but he gets more bashing than Cato.
You werent around before last year...trust me, Cato got more than his share of bashing. It is just with his improved play of the last year that he is getting grudging admiration..but most of us are still secretly praying that Cato can keep it up and not fall into old habits.
No kidding! Let's see Kelvin do it for a lot more minutes and for a whole season without fouling out all the time. Then you'll see a real lovefest.
I asked in chat's last year about Cato and people bashed the idea cos of his lack of footwork and quickness... I guess we'll get to see when the Rockets play San Antonio if this would work. It could be a good solution. Cato seems to work hard which is more than Griffin is doing.
First off i am a big JVG fan. I am also a big Rudy T fan so I may just be a company suck up. But that adoration aside, did JVG come up witht he idea of playing Cato at PF or was his had forced by the the absents of Griffin and Taylor, combined with the fact that the rest of the big guys are not going to get playing time and hence should not be hogging the practic time.
That seems about right. The idea of Cato at PF floated around for a little, but was never needed with Griff and MoT. With both of those guys out this preseason, minutes should go to playable players. I really like the way Cato is grabbing those boards, him and Yao could completely shut down the paint!! Only problem I see is Cato picking up early fouls and Yao getting himself into foul trouble too, then we are stuck with Amechi. Cato at PF does make Eddie a little more expendible, not much though.
There are lots of guys who could be great post players. It's just that everyone wants to be a perimeter player, so they don't work as much on post play.
