I think this would be a bigger accomplishment if he was actually creating his own shot more, rather than being setup by a teammate all the time.

I would be much happier if the rest of the team was taking shots set up by teammates rather than going one-on-three to create their own shots.

Consistently having to create your own shots means the team isn't passing the ball properly.

True but constantly having to rely on others to set you means you're only gonna get so many oppurtunities to score anyway especially when your range is limited

Cato is not the league leader in field gaol percentage. He's not even anywhere at the top because he does not have the required number of makes and attempts. I think you have to have atleast 500 attempts but im not sure. What I am sure is that Shaq leads the league at 58%, but if Cato did have enough attempts, he would lead the league because he shoots 59%. Just check out NBA.com if you need any more proof, and look under their field goal percentage leaders, and you'll see that Cato (like in most of the games this season) is nowhere to be found.

True dat.

It goes back to the old question... Do the players not want to cut to the basket, or does Rudy now allow them?

One day, just one day, I'd like to see the Rockets use a back screen to free a player for a jumper or a cut to the basket without the ball.

Cato is playing better. Period.

Regardless of the # of shot attempts.
Regardless if they were dunks.
Regardless if Steve set him up.
Regardless if he's incapable of creating his own shots.
Regardless of his salary
Regardless of...

Is he an impact player?...no. But his FG% is one indication that he has stepped up his game.

Cato has a role on the team. A good team maximizes each player's strenghts. Cato is playing his part. This season was a disaster and Cato's play was among the least of their concerns...perhaps a faint bright spot.

Outside of Los Angeles and Sacramento, we are the only team to have two players in the top 20 in scoring.

Elite company...

It just amazes me how almost everyone focuses SO much on offense. Cato get a few lobs for dunks, and suddenly, he's playing his role. He has shown improvement, but I think people look at him and say "look how much he's improved", instead of saying "he's still not that good."

He's rebounding better, but he's still mediocre. He is an average one on one defender, and the layup drill still continues all game long. Nobody is intimidated by his presence in the lane. He's blocking more shots, but he doesn't consistently contest shots. Good defensive center change alot more shots than they block. Cato simply doesn't do this. Right now, he is a backup center.

On the positive side: He has shown improvement, therefore he may shown more improvement. I haven't given up hope yet. If he can just become a consistent defensive presence, that might be enough

We have so many scorers, that's all we need out of Cato right now. Those couple of points are what will make him hustle throughout the whole game.

Watch the games a little closer. People aer intimidated. Over the second half of the season, Cato averaged 2 blocks. Now imagine Cato and Griffin as our frontcourt? Who would dare go inside?

Right now, he's shown his teammates that he's trustworthy. Next year, he'll get the ball more, in easier situations because we'll have more shooters and penetrators.

The reason why this thread is focusing on ofense is because that is what this thread is about - FG%.

Cato is also playing better defensively. If he can at least maintain this level of play, he's a better than average center. He still has the potential to be really good. Hopefully we'll continue to see improvement.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. There are way more threads about offense than defense. Hell, there are more thread about our uniforms than about our defense.

My eyes are glued to the screen, and I still don't see those people. All I see is the layup line.
