So do all crops have subsidies? If they don't then what is keeping every farmer in America from planting corn instead of say cotton? If they do, is their share bigger than the other crops?
i know just enough to be dangerous. i think some crops are subsidized more than others. but US policy has been to use corn for EVERYTHING. demand for corn is super-high and it supports a high price. in my mind, you don't need policy that uses corn for everything and still a subsidy AND a price floor.
subsidy - basically when something is supported by an action or ruling that is out of the normal process. in this case, the government's laws on food and farming subsidize corn and soybean production... makes it easier on them to make money through reduced regulations and such... and inherently, there's the danger of the government/business interests overriding the natural order of food and human lives. the government is out to screw you in the name of business and money with regards to corn and soy. recommended reading: the omnivore's dilemma. it's damn good, as others have said.
I suspect we'll still be able to head down to the market and buy freaking catfish -- those pellets are far from the only thing those dumb fish will eat.
Argh...I love catfish. The absolute best catfish I've had is at Captain Tom's boat on the Katy Fwy between westgreen and fry, or on 1960 just past Pridgeon Sadium. That place is so freaking good but always so freaking packed. Also sports the best mixed beer drink in the city (Michelada)
I love catfish. People can have their mahi mahi and salmon, but nothing to me tastes as good as catfish... either fried or blackened. I just went to Arkansas and had the best fried catfish I've ever had (mmmm...) with some of the best service I've ever had in a restaurant, so this is sad to hear.
Catfish Hole in Alma! Great state and nice people! I'm going to go up there in the next few weeks and spend some more time looking around.
I guess this is the end of the all you can eat catfish at Sudie's. Somewhere, Van Chancellor is weeping.
That's cool, I've never actually been to Alma just through it. There are a lot of great catfish places to eat in Arkansas. My favorite is Ed's Catfish here in Jonesboro. Great catfish and the best frog legs I've ever had.
I guess I should move my plans up, to dig my own fish pond in my backyard. This nation's production is dwindling. We are mearly consumers.
