I'm sorry but I disagree. When I hear defensive stud, I hear a lock down defender. Let's look at more numbers:

Kobe shot 43% last season and shot 40% (8-20) in the last game vs the Rockets. He averages about 20 shots a game. Let's also take into account Bynum getting kicked out of the game giving Bryant an excuse to even take more shots.
Kobe also had one turnover in that game.

Parsons is a good defender and did a great job on Kobe for a rookie. Calling him a "defensive stud" is stretching it IMO.

So basically trading a broken down T-Mac to the Knicks netted us the Dallas late 1st rounder and Royce White. Not a bad haul if you ask me. Could have been an even bigger haul if a few things had gone our way:
If Jordan Hill turned out to be good
If New York pick was worse than ours last year and we switched with them (but it wouldn't have made a difference since, according to Morey, we had Morris top 10 anyway:)
If knicks hadn't made the playoffs and we drafted John Henson with that pick (in other words, if we hadn't cut Lin, who actually put Kinicks on his back and carried them to the playoffs)

we didnt get anything in return for TMAC bc that player was gone after the micro fracture surgery .. the trade we did make was for tracy mcgradys contract. (remember it was made bc ny was trying to get out of its contracts to go after lebron)

had we traded tmac (knowing he would be hurt) before he got hurt, we could have gotten something similar to what orlando is asking for dwight. There were rumors that one year when kobe was demanding to be traded that we could possibly offer tmac for kobe, had the lakers decided to do that i am sure we could have put together an attractive package with tmac some picks etc

I am a numbers guy, but if you are going to rely on stats to try and determine what a defesnive stud is and isn't, you are making a mistake.

If you watched every Rockets game last year, and saw Parsons guard everyone from Kobe and Durant to Tony Parker, you would definitely say he if not IS, definitely CAN or WILL be a defensive STUD.

The only player all season long that really abused him was Michael Beasley during the game in Houston (which I happened to be at with my brother). Playing excellent defense often won't show up in the box score. You have to SEE IT a lot of the time. How EASY does the person score?

Like a shutdown corner in the NFL, a lockdown defender - when it comes to the best scorers in the league - does not exist. Rodman... Bowen... Battier... Artest... Mad Max....none of them could STOP the game's best scorers. They simply made it harder than everyone else for them to get their points.

Matt Bullard talked several times during the season about how the Rockets chart "defensive breakdowns" and that during the Battier years he consistently led the team at around 8%. Parsons hovered around 10% - AS A ROOKIE, easily leading the team.

So, yes, he is well on his way, if he continues, to being a defensive STUD.

No amount of NUMBERS can dispute what I saw him to do Kobe and Durant - how difficult he made it on them.

A defensive STUD is going to make a scorer/star player WORK HARD, so that come crunch time, they are less likely to convert on the offensive end.

    That's exactly what Parsons does.

I agree that he is on his way and could become a "defensive stud". And I think he understands that playing good defense gets you on the court at key moments so he's going to keep working at it.

Remember Ruben "Kobe stopper" Patterson? lol Let's hope Parsons becomes much better than him

Rudy T should be team president ala Pat Riley in Miami. Smh @ the Rockets. This guy would bring in free agents with his motivational speeches. #bringbackRudyT

You say that now... He only started getting playing time for the Rockets in late December so it won't be until October at the earliest when the baby mamas start showing up, but when they do, we'll find it was very appropriate. ;)

    lol yes, I remember Ruben.

Nothing is ever certain, but I'm confident Parsons will be better than Mr. Kobe Stopper himself.

don't let his years of experience fool you. he is still 24 years old, and he already averages 19 points and 12 rebounds a game on 56% FG%. i'm not saying he is hakeem, or he will be hakeem at a point in the future, but his numbers are olajuwon-esque. his only problem is, obviously, durability. but when healthy, he's a dangerous weapon.

and it's actually wrong to say bynum can become hakeem, because they're very different centers. bynum, along with the rest of the centers in NBA history, doesn't have the quickness that hakeem did. but, bynum can have the same impact or the same effectiveness the dream had, but he'll do it in another style.

His played better last season than the previous one. Obviously, he'll never reach Hakeen level, but you don't think he could improve?

This is the part that should have been bolded. If other teams think that as well, the Rockets should be able to pull off a nice trade at some point.
