When are ya'll going to start blaming Yao for losses? Cat has been HOT the last couple games, and the rule for shooters is to keep on shooting. Cat was off tonight, but thats going to happen. Yao can't allow teams to totally cut him off. 13points? 6REBOUNDS? 5TOs? Yao let the Grizzlies have his way with him, period. I have to blame JVG also, Yao can do a lot of other things than just score. The pick and roll formula works, it's proven, yet JVG only allowed Yao in the post tonight. It just seems JVG isn't using Yao to his full capability, it doesn't help that Yao isn't playing to his capability either.
several times Yao sets pick then gets open but Cat does not pass him the ball opting for outside shots. How can Yao score when he does not have the rock. Some of his TO was due to a poor pass by a team mate.
So anyone who does not kneel at the Temple of Yao must be punished . . . .. Is that his only offense? What does it call for. . .a caning??? Rocket River
We lost the game because we were out rebounded 50-35. That means the Grizzlies had 15 more opportunities to score. Cat is not the reason we lost. Yao, Cato, MoT are to blame for that for not boxing out period.
I do not say who should be responsible for the loss of this game. I mean that CAT should communicate with YAO and the other big guys, when big guys get good position. I really hope that JVG could let his players watch Kings' game before ROX's game start. JVG could roar and enforce his players to share balls before the game start
For the contributors of this thread, please understand that NBAsticker original post was not to blame anyone for the loss, he was merely stating problems he witnessed on the floor, which might slow down the development of the team, offensively especially. Not one center in the league would post up and put the ball up 15 times in a game, they get easy basket, they get feeds from their guards when they cut to the basket, one of the reason (not all) Yao is only putting up 7 or 8 shots in the game is because he is not getting the feeds from the guards when the opportunities are available. When Memphis was fronting the defense and playing aggressive defense, the last thing you want your guards to do is putting up outside shots, this is exactly what Memphis wants. Work your way in and break down that defense, we did it beautifully in the 2nd quarter. Yao was constantly working, he was working for positions, and the refs could see that. Mobley was pretty pathetic for not recognizing that and not until he starts doing that, Rox is alwasy going to be an average team. LL
Bless you!! I don't understand how people on this forum can watch the same game and not see that. The world does not revolve around Yao!!! Memphis did a great job of fronting him and you would have to be on Mitch Wiggins crack to throw Ming the rock with 3 defenders around him. TURNOVER . Yes...Cat makes bad decisions at times, but who ever started this thread needs to be punish. Yao needed to hold his damn position when those opportunities came..he didn't and we paid for it. I would rather give credit to Memphis for great defense and clutch plays than dawg the Rockets last night. I thought they played hard and shots didn't fall...it happens. Let's live with it and move on to Wednesday.
Just trade Cat, SamFisher, and StupidMoniker and get it over with. Nothing ever changes. If the Rox are ever going to go anywhere in the playoffs, Ming has to be great, not good. Cat's not going to get us there. Steve's not going to get us there. It's Ming or nothing. All the other players have to make Ming better. Nothing else they do means jack. If Ming isn't a superstar, the Rox have jack squat chance to win it all.
Great analysis. Very incisive. What do you propose the Rockets do about Ming when he can't get downcourt and is too winded to jump for a rebound?
When did Yao have good position last night? When he did, he got the ball. When he didn't, he didn't get the ball. Pretty simple. Yao didn't play well last night. Neither did the team. This is the NBA, it happens. No one needs to be "punished".
OK, I must be missing something here. Hubie outcoaches JVG (again), Cato does his best imitation of a statue, our guards (again) demonstrate the need to be reminded that the 7' 6" guy wearing red on the court is known as a center who also plays for our team, the guy who CD & Uncle Les believed wasn't worth $4.7 million torches our butts with 3's to ice the game for Memphis, the whiny Spanish guy puts on a shooting clinic at our expense and you want to be angry at Memphis? Here's a novel idea, why not be just a little bit miffed at the Rockets for being the collective set of dumbasses that we've come to know and love...
What the Rox really need is a starting powerfoward. The combo thing they got going on is not a permanent solution. Cato is too weak on Offense and MoT is just a black hole. If they can pull of a trade for a legit PF, they would be much better off.
Well for the most part of the season cat has been giving the ball down low but now & than he dosn't but thats because yao is getting pushed around
Did you watch the game? When freaking Posey and Miller are going crazy from the outside, you can't really blame anybody, except for maybe Dawson for not keeping Posey This "ignoring Yao" schtick is so freaking played He had a bad game last night, he was too slow to keep up with Memphis and was winded as a result, and was seldom open. Why can't people just admit this. Steve has bad games, Wilks has bad games, Cat has bad games, JJ has bad games...and yes, Yao has bad games. It's Ok, you can admit it. LOok at the plus minus ratio. By my rough calculations (somebody might want to check me on this as my math is no good), the Rockets were -7 with Yao on the floor last night; with him on the bench, they were +2. Shouldn't that tell you something? I consider it an admirable showing (and a credit to his resolve) that he managed to get 13 points. By the way, this idea of being miffed at the Rockets is not novel, considering the bashfests that go on around here after a loss, an even after a win. Actually giving credit to the other team for hitting their shots and Posey's hustle is novel.
The Team was built arround Francis and Mobley It was their Team. They built their NBA reputation as the leaders of the Rockets. Along comes a change in Plan a possible big time Center and then a new Coach. As Calvin Murphy said -The Team is being built arround Yao Ming now and the other players will adapt their Games to his, not the other way arround. If they cant or are not willing, then the Coach/Organisation will find players that fit Yao Mings development and Game. This is just what was told to me by a third party and if there is any truth to it then expect that this first season of JVG is realy his appraisal of the Team.
They edged the Rockets out on the road. They overcame a 4th quarter deficit of 7 points and held off the Rockets with hustle. I don't think they are really better. And back on topic- Cat is a poor passer. This isn't news. There were a few times Yao was open and he didn't receive the ball. Against a team like the Grizzlies you can't expect Yao to be open for 5 seconds.
one play in particular, Yao had his man pinned and he was wide open for an easy layup but Mobley held the ball too long and did not pass it while Yao was open. Yao ended up with a foul trying to maintain the good position he had waiting on Cat to pass the obvious open look to him.
