Are you guys Rockets fans or what? I tired of seeing a majority of the people in these forums putting down OUR team! Every damn day I come in here I see posts putting Cat, mooch, and Cato down. I feel like Im in a damn Lakers forum! I couldn't agree more. Too bad we don't have a history of posts by these guys in the year prior to the Rockets winning their two championships-- or even the beginning half of the first championship season. Vernon is a dumbass with talent, doesn't passs enough and takes crazy shots. Thinks he is Michael Jordan. Thorpe is one dimensional and can't shoot. Hakeem has talent, plays hard but can't see the court to pass. Kenny can't play defense and has no balls. . Horry can't shoot; can only play defense, whines too much. Cassell shoots too much. Rudy is out of his league, is an alcoholic idiot and we need Pat Riley or some other genius if we are ever going to win. on and on and on.
You make a good point about the championship team, but guess what, with all of the players particular faults, they played together as a team way better than today's Rocket team. There's no comparison in that department. When this current team learns to trust each other and play more team oriented basketball, this team can start to move back into contention. I don't see this current team getting anywhere close to a championship with it's mental makeup. A lot of this falls on the coach. It's just too many mental errors going on out there on the Rocket's part. Rudy can't go out there and make plays but he can discourage a lot of the things going on out there on the court. Rudy is a player's coach to a fault, he needs to be straight forward with the players. If he was being straight forward, they wouldn't continue to make the same mental errors. If he is being straight forward and they still continue to make mental errors over and over again, then bench them, plain and simple. If he's worried about hurting someone's feelings or stepping on someone's ego then he's not worrying about the right thing. Something needs to change in this department or it will be the same old story for years to come.
Well … I guess it’s still the same ol’ - same ol’. I should have stayed in Canada for another month. At least up there they have fairly decent things to say about the Rockets. Including: the talent of the dynamic duo in the Rocket backcourt. The emergence of Kenny Thomas. The absolute steal of Griffin in the draft. The heads up scouting on Torres. And … the “surprise” … gee, yeah know what, Cato may not be “as bad” as everyone expected. They understand the emotional argument of having let Dream walk (moreso as the season lengthens and Hakeem’s appearances get more sparse). Of course they question the pickup of Rice, but Canadians do so far less harshly than anyone on this board. They see the logic of grabbing a veteran with a killer outside game and bringing his arsenal of weapons to Rocketville in the “year of the zone”. The fact that it did not pan out, is usually laid at the feet of fate and not poor decision-making on the part of Carroll Dawson, etal. Canadians it seems, are assured of the fact that a lot of teams (including most of the Eastern also-rans) would have folded their tents early …. if they had been faced with the same injury plagued season the Rockets have been handed. But then, by and large I found that Canadian basketball fans are ... well .... they are basketball fans. They see the mastery and sweetness in a single step(CM). The fingertip gamble of a third year player (KT) trying to improve his team. The sweat of an aging journeyman ( KW) as he out hustles the youngbloods. They applaud the effort in spite of the adversity. They are not self-righteous like so many self-labeled Rocket fans who will find fault with almost anything. You know the ones that pursue the negative. The whiners who want a basket of gold in a sea of silver. The sinister plotters that will never be happy with even the most miniscule advancement in a season that has shown some of us oldsters that Rocket Heart is alive and well. Today, these same BBS opinion-stylers grab firmly hold of a recent opponent spinning his local media …. albeit because a Rocket dared trashed him up. Of course, if Mobes had actually said what is purported (and I have no doubt he did in fact say it … he can trash as well as anyone), then proved himself by filling the hole, this very same media would not have reported Harrington (or anyone else) as saying …. “Well, yeah he told me before the play and I still couldn't stop him. Duh, I'm a chump!” Yeah right! So instead they print: "He warned me," Harrington said. "I appreciate that. I thought he was going to pull up for 3 and try to be the savior. Fortunately for me he drove and I was able to give him a little body." This type of self-serving drivel is printed to make the Indiana Pacers fans forget their own internal squabbles. It’s made to put the vanquished southern cardiac kids in their place. A media standard that is used everywhere to hold the victorious home team’s hand up in the air. The winner won. The loser lost. It exclaims: “Long live the winner!” Unfortunately, it also consistently brings out the worse in a lot of “hangers-on” and wannabe Rocket fans who just happen to have this website’s address. And can spell “dumbass” or “****” or “idiot” … or other adjectives describing their “favorite” basketball team.
Canadian's SUCK! They live in igloos. Stevefindel told me. Everyone sucks for thinking Thomas is emerging at the expense of Grifin. Thomas is a selfish ass, and Cat is a blackhole hurting the development of Francis. Only Francis and Griffin should be on the court with any rookies we can find. Canadians SUCK! I don't care what anyone else says.
glynch -- your comments assume that this current team will one day win titles together...i don't see that as being so...frankly, i don't see many of them still playing in rockets jerseys in a couple of years. the championship teams played together...they moved the ball...they were relatively unselfish...they were committed to defense...that's not the case with this group...that's what makes those championship teams into championship teams. this current crop has absolutely no grit whatsoever...but trust me...i'm a HUGE rockets fan...i root for them and hate every other team in the NBA for the most part...i'm not bandwagoning some other team right now while the rocks suck...but just because i'm a fan doesn't mean they're immune from my criticism...geez, if that's your definition of a fan there are NO fans in the entire city of NY! you think we're rough on our teams??? come on!!!
MadMax, glynch is right. People b****ed and b****ed. You are just saying that you didn't b****. Whining fans who play the blame game after everyone loss, suck! There is a large majoity on this bbs who think the SUCK, SUCK, SUCK business is what Sucks the most. Plain and simple. It is a matter of how you lose. Do you talk about the goods plays, the opponents good plays, the fixable mistakes, the bad mistakes, the flashing of heart and improvement...or just SUCK SUCK SUCK. Do you talk about Bush's platform in civil terms--good or bad--or just Bush SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS. You liked the former Rockets team and didn't b****. But an entire class of fans still did. That's the point. The more losses, the more blaming. Ripping every single player except high lotto players is weird, moronic and childish. Not to say you are doing it...but it is stll a strong opinion that suck, suck, suck is what sucks the most to many sports fans in many different sports. And it makes internet chatting and posting incredible noisy with children screaming. MadMax, look around. How many of this SUCK, SUCK, SUCK people do you like to talk to. Do they really inspire a post from you or say it the way you like it said for you? I wonder. oh, And only Steve and Griffin and rookies who haven't shown suckage should be on the court. Everyone else sucks. Well, Mobley can stand at 3 point land and wait for a pass, but otherwise he SUCKS too.
Several of the current players and the front office responsible for several highly questionable roster moves are making a mockery out of my favorite team and a mockery of said team's storied history of championships and excellence. They are also just plain making a mockery of the game of basketball. You got a problem w/ me voiceing my displeasure w/ many of the correctable problems that are keeping us and will keep us from ever getting back to greatness, then bite me.
Unfortunately, it also consistently brings out the worse in a lot of “hangers-on” and wannabe Rocket fans who just happen to have this website’s address. As opposed to those who insist that anyone who says anything negative can't actually be a Rockets fan. Rockets fans, apparently, must be blind and only look at the good things. Yes, according to the REAL Rockets fan, the Rockets are the absolutely perfect team. We would be 35-0 if it weren't for the injuries. All losses are caused by the refs -- our team could never actually make mistakes or play horribly. Every player only does good things. If he does anything bad, let's not discuss it, because then you'd just be a negative wanna-be Rocket fan. If a Rockets player were to commit murder, we must say "but the guy deserved it!". Yes, that's the real definition of "fan". The fact that people keep pulling this "maybe you're not a real fan. you should find a <pick a team> board to post on" crap to try to shame people out of posting their differing views is absolutely pathetic.
Ummm...storied history of championships? The current front office is the only front office that has brought championships to Houston. Are you saying they are making a mockery of their own legacy? crispee, keep up the good fight.
Pooh, You still didn't explain why Cuttino deserves criticism for trash talking, and why Steve doesn't. Both of them do it. What does it matter if someone has "more game" to back it up... it's not like it hurts the team any less. Either criticize them both, or neither. This really isn't a case for selective criticism. Anyone who doesn't think this helps the defense.... wow, I don't even know what to say. Anyone who thinks Cuttino Mobley is the only player to do this... I don't know what to say either.
How can anybody say anything about what this team does and does not have? WE ARE REBUILDING and INJURY PLAGUED. We haven't seen this team play together for an extended period of time (14+ starting lineups this season). They are growing together. We've seen a lot of improvement just over the last 2-3 weeks and I expect we'll see a lot more. Look at how we are better utilizing Griffin now than we were last month with new pick'n'rolls right to the hoop and not high picks. Look at how Steve's presence has smoothed the flow of our offense and we don't dribble as much. Look at how TMo is incrementally getting better (albeit not as fast as everybody would like). He's certainly a great defensive presence. Look at how KT rarely takes 18ft jumpers now. Look at how Calvin hasn't talked about cookies in well over a month. There's a lot of positive things to look at which is a lot more interesting to ME than dwelling on all the negative things.
Major, I think you are now officially the SUCK-Poster Apologist of the BBS. I think MadMax is becoming your Vice President. Are you really categorizing yourself with the SUCK, SUCK, SUCK teenagers? No one here is categorizing you like that? Appears to me only you are. So, are you really saying every loss deserves a SUCK post about who was to blame. blame, blame, blame. with nothing constructive short of BENCH HIM, or TAKE A FREAKING BACKSEAT. Maybe some of us want to talk about the mistakes constructively like a coach or scout would do....but simply refuse to discuss it with SUCK SUCK SUCK teenagers. uh, what is more interesting and mature. Using bad data to blame someone in a repetitive fashion, or trying to figure out how a loss happened. Not every sunshine ass is blind to mistakes...we just don't talk to SUCK SUCK SUCK idiots when they steal the board from civil discussion...just like what you do in the Hangout to protect intelligent conversation. What also is more mature in fans is acknowledging how the opponent beat you. Don't you think it is interesting to break down what their strengths were and how they exposed our weaknesses more than our strengths exposed there's. No, blamers never think the opponents got the better of us....we should win every game otherwise someone SUCKs SUCKs SUCKs. Are you really categorizing yourself that way? I don't view you that way, so why are you apologizing for them. Can't you see the difference that Will is saying in the Feedback.
I don't understand. In the article it only mentioned Mobley. I don't have a problem with "trash talking" if you have been torching them all night but Mobley was shut down by Harrington. How can you talk trash when your whole team has scored only 29 pts that half. I love Cat but I think he isn't very smart and on top of that he is putting out bad karma. Basketball gods don't like bad karma so we lost....
I think lost in the entire trash talk thing with mobley is the fact we gave them two ft's on tech's also. Sometimes, a team doesn't realize how important those tech ft's are, but when you look up and lose by 1 or 2, they look huge. With a team like the rockets playing the game so close to the vest, every point and possession is important. We can't just give away points because we don't force turnovers or bad shots by the opposing teams. Cat may have talked a little trying to get into Harrington's head, but one of the main reason's he was in the game and Jalen on the sideline is when Rudy went small, Isiah did he in and put Harrington in the game. The resluts were Harrington forced Cat into fades and bad shots. With 8 secs left we got a terrible shot after a timeout.
Houston (UPI/AP) - Apparently a low weather front from the north sucked all the hot air out of Houston over the last several weeks. Basketball fans blamed it on NBA player Kelvin Cato's future contract, colleague Mobley's seemingly unwitting penchant for hogging the ball, incumbent coach Rudy's inability to make a band of teenagers perform like seals and the unbearable mystical loss of the city's muslim muftah. A vertible plethora of teenage internet geek enthusiasts are calling the cold spell "the worst event in (the) history of Houston" teamdom. Some self-stlyed experts are calling for God's intervention or at least some tradewinds to relieve the pathetic stillness that has injured some people's pride. Meterologists are categorically in agreement that it is merely a "brief climate adjustment" and that "sucking" is a realtive term when comparing the humidity of "performance and effort " with the humility of "unrealistic expectations". Observers who have seen this phenomena in the past are attempting to reassure the latecomers that - as in Canada - if you wait patiently, the weather will indeed change to the better. In a related story, the word "suck" and all it's derivatives has been copywrited by a group of unpaid amateur sports authorities. They feel that labile sports opinion being what it is, - the unrealistic anticipation that success should be speedy, smooth and unstressful - that one spokesman stated " we feel the word "suck" will get a market share of the collective vocabulary of the uninformed". There has been no information on a proposed entry into commodities trading of the word "suck", but industry insider - Peter Vecsey - recently quoted his source as " ... (confirming) everyone feels the Houston market sucks bigtime and therefore it must be true....". Some historians have named Peter Vecsey as the model from which the word originated, and furthered that it's application may better be applied to those that exhibit the same tendency to over exaggerated the negative, in light of common sense.
OP, you are the MAN! Is anyone else frightened by the fact that the teenage "suckologists" are too young to know who Popeye is?? BTW, Ralph Sampson sucked.
You still didn't explain why Cuttino deserves criticism for trash talking, and why Steve doesn't. Both of them do it. Cat, I have yet to see Steve tell another team that a last-second play is going to be run for him. If he (or anyone) does that, they are just as stupid. To me, there's a difference between "I'm gonna beat you, man" (trash talk) and "we called a play for me in the huddle". Maybe it didn't hurt us, maybe it did. But it certainly didn't help, so worst case is bad, best case is no effect. To me, that's just a stupid decision. Are you really categorizing yourself with the SUCK, SUCK, SUCK teenagers? No one here is categorizing you like that? Appears to me only you are. I'm not categorizing myself as anything. If you want to do so, I don't really care -- that's your choice, but I just call it as I see it. I see people calling others "wanna-be fans" for having a different attitude, and I think that's silly, so I post my thoughts on it. So, are you really saying every loss deserves a SUCK post about who was to blame. No, but when we make the same mistakes ten times in a row, I'll point it out. When we help other teams win due to some arrogance-complex, I'll point it out. I'm not going to sit here and tell you how great the team is, because I don't think we'll start winning until we fix these things. The problem is that we're making ZERO progress in these areas, and it appears we are making ZERO attempt to fix them. It's like we take two steps forward and then two steps backward... And this isn't just this season, but these are things that haven't improved over the course of a year or two. Maybe some of us want to talk about the mistakes constructively like a coach or scout would do....but simply refuse to discuss it with SUCK SUCK SUCK teenagers. Then stop replying to them. Why is that so difficult? You refuse to get into a suck-discussion yet you're sitting here and sucking yourself right in. If you want to post those kinds of posts, then do so. The board will be better for it because it opens up a new line of discussions and thought, and arguably a much more intelligent line as well. Maybe in the process, you'll convince some of the b****ers the error of their ways and get them involved in a quality discussion. However, no one makes you get into an argument with the "suck suck suck teenagers". Why not leave them be to b**** to each other? It seems to me, everyone is happy that way. What also is more mature in fans is acknowledging how the opponent beat you. Don't you think it is interesting to break down what their strengths were and how they exposed our weaknesses more than our strengths exposed there's. Absolutely. However, the problem right now is that the focus is on our weaknesses right now, because we have a bunch of them. Chicago has few, if any, strengths and they blew us out. So did Memphis. Sometimes we play a perfect game and lose, and that's fine. But when our players are assisting the other team, that's something very easily correctable. Are you really categorizing yourself that way? I don't view you that way, so why are you apologizing for them. I'm not apologizing for anyone. I just disagree with the characterization that they are non-fans or wanna-be fans. I have no problem with others blasting them for being wrong or telling them the positives or whatnot. All I'd hope for is we stick with actual reasons, instead of going to the "non-fan" card. It's the same thing as Ashcroft calling people Un-American for actually questioning him. It's just a cheap way of trying to shame people into shutting up.
OP, You have to admit losing 15 in a row really, really sucked...And at this point winning 2 in a row would not suck in fact it would be really
Seriously, what last second shots has Cuttino hit as a Rocket? I only remember one, and that's the 2nd game of his rookie year, but maybe I just only remember that one because it was his first nba game. Anyway, someone please provide me Clutch Recaps of games that Cuttino has won on a final possession...doesn't have to be in his career, maybe just pull up 3 or 4 games in the last 2 years, then I'll be satisfied. This is an honest question, not meant to bash him, I just keep hearing about how clutch Cuttino is, and my old age must be destroying my memory, because I remember only 1 game that he actually won the game on the final possession...
