Thin at the PF position  MoT is not injury prone, Cornell and Gabe have proven that they can play in the league... how about Cato and the trade exception or Cato and Boki or something to that extent.

The RealG Message Board. Check out the Rocket section. The poster got his info. from his girlfriend that works at a radio station in Atlanta. Not sure how truthful it is but was very interesting news. The players involved in the trade don't seem to match up contract wise however. Maybe other players will be added to make it work.

Most people would agree that Artest is a better players than Cat, overall, but I just don't think he fit the Rockets at this moment.

If you want Artest, you have to have a veteran club with some strong hands in the locker room. The Rockets are a young team, adding Artest would greatly increase their growing pain.

ignoring the BYC implications of artest's contract, which make the deal (as stated) impossible....

i'd probably do it. i see losing cato as a favor to the rockets. anytime you can unload a backup player that makes the kind of pesos that cato makes, you do it. so, it comes down to griffin for artest. as much as i love griff, and believe he will develop into a hell of a player, i don't know that the rockets necessarily need a player of griff's realized potential in order to be successful.

motay is more than capable of manning the 4 spot this year. somewehre down the line, if artest's outside shot continued to improve, i'd look at moving ronron to the 2 and trading cat for a rashard lewis type of 3 (tall, rangy, great shooting).

    as for this year, though,

    francis/wilks
    mobley/pike
    ronron/jj
    motay/FA pickup or cornell/muoneke
    yao/meech

is an improved lineup. we'd essentially be getting a better, tougher, better shooting posey, and getting motay back in the lineup - hopefully in the form he was in at the end of the season.

verse: I realize Cato and Griffin are not thought of too highly on this board, but you would essentially deal away all of our frontcourt depth for Artest? You would risk entering the waters of the Western Conference with an exhausted Yao and the fragile Mo Taylor as your only viable big men? Putting aside Artest's character issues, how does the aforementioned deal improve us any? We are essentially going in with Artest, Mobley, Piatkowski, Jackson, and Nachbar (ok, maybe not Nachbar) at the swing positions and left with Amaechi as our only backup big man. No way you trade 2 young big men for a guard/forward, especially in the Western Conference.

Why not just cut out the middle man? Cato and Eggie for SAR.

Then Mo wouldn't get to play! :( :D

Anyways...that fa;se rumor that MGSCIALA3820983024 posted...I would not do it!

We would have too many backcourt guys...

    Francis/Wilks/Moochie
    Mobley/Piatkowski
    Artest/Jackson/Griffin/Nachbar
    Taylor
    Yao

UNLESS...we could make a trade involving Mobley and some of our scrubs for a decent power forward who can also play center. ;)

Keep it simple! Kelvin Cato and Adrian Griffin for Artest! I wish Indiana would bite on that...

    Francis/Wilks/Moochie
    Mobley/Piatkowski/Scales
    Artest/Jackson/Nachbar
    Griffin/Taylor/Muoneke
    Yao/Cornell/Amaechi

With this team...Jackson and Piatkowski wouldn't get to play! :( I don't think Jackson and Piatkowski would want to play 12 minutes a game..Mobley and Griffin for Shareef and stuff?

    Francis 36/Wilks 12/Moochie
    Piatkowski 30/Jackson 18/Scales
    Artest 35/Jackson 13/Nachbar
    SAR 35/Taylor 13/Muoneke
    Yao 34/Cornell 14/Amaechi

Decent power forward that can also play center = Kurt Thomas.

    Contract 5 mil.

    I'd like Thomas and Artest.

Now the lineup is getting tougher.

    t-cab,

what you're saying is true.... the way to remedy it might be through trading cat + trade exception $$ for a third big man & a solid shooting small forward. i'd love to have artest at the 2 spot, alongside a sweetshooting small forward. would that make it more palatable?

Damn it feels like 1999 again....

Verse: So from the two deals, you ship out, Mobley, Cato, Griffin, and the trade exception, and gain Artest and whatever big man you get. I just don't see it as enough of a payoff to tinker with chemistry. Artest doesn't do much for me over Mobley, especially in a JVG system, not enough to warrant trading two big men. I know Cato somewhere along the line must be moved, but you are just giving away way too much in this scenario. I still want to see how Griffin develops under Van Gundy.

you might be right. it might be close to a lateral move. and i, too, would love to see griffin under JVG tutelage. i haven't given up on him.

truthfully, i'm just bored right now, and decided to comment on a trade that'll never probably happen... :)

    lol yeah...it won't happen...just dreaming up scenarios..

Give up Cato and Griffin for Artest and Mobley for Thomas...so basically...Cato, Griffin, and Mobley for Artest and Thomas.

    Hmm..I wouldn't do it.

I would like to keep Griffin after watching him play Monday against Rasheed Wallace and the Blazers. Maybe...watch today's game as well. Thomas is sort of like him but older and shorter.

    And yes..chemistry. :D

I would do it if we got Austin Croshere or Charlie Ward or Jamaal Tinsley or Fred Jones too.
