I remember the first 'date', me and my girl went on. We had known each other for years, so it wasn't really alot of pressure. We went to Live Sports Cafe. I think it was a Lakers/Rockets game. The place was crazy, we had a great time. Then we walked up and down Main afterwards. It was pretty cool and strangely romantic.
Derek Jeeter? Nah, we weren't swinging or nothing. But it was cool strolling down the street, hugging, holding hands, going into Saba for a couple of drinks, listening to movies, going to the mot- errrr....
After thinking things over I suggest you put off dinner until after Valentine's day. If you have your dinner too soon you are going to be put in that awkward position of "should I get her a gift or not" and "what should I get her". Postpone dinner for two weeks then have at it.
Not true. I HATE the Cheesecake Factory, but love Grand Lux. The BBQ cedar plank salmon is quite good.
I like to go to House of Kabob on Westheimer a little east of Hillcroft for shawarma. If I want to eat anything besides shawarma, I go to Dimassi's in Rice Villiage or on Richmond west of 59 for their $9.99 buffet. I'm not arab, so I don't know if there is more than one type of cheese bread, but I got some cheese bread at Jerusalem Halal meat on Hillcroft south of Richmond recently. It was my first and last time trying cheese bread though, didn't seem like anything special to me.
Turns out she's a vegetarian also, so we ended up going to a casual Chinese place. It was fun. No pics. I don't pic and tell.
Yeah, but you're back home on the computer already...that says something right there! Good luck on date #2 if it comes to that.
Is it upscale, really? I dont know, Im not usually allowed into places like that... I like to sit by the pseudo-"study" where all those books are shelved. Makes me feel smart.
Well, they CAN be upscale depending on how you want to go. That's why I like it. You can go in shorts or dress up. I like sitting out by the fountain.
How about cooking for your date? If you cannot cook, learn it now and fast. There is nothing as romantic and sound as cooking for a date. Maybe because I can cook, but that is my preference. During the meal, you can dim the lights and play some Classical music or old school RB jams. You can always rent a movie to watch after dinner (comedy is usually preferable on first dates). Anyway, Baroque is not a bad idea to a date. It is an "ancient" Euro style restaurant with a laid back feel.
I definitely can cook and I will consider that once I'm in the house on my own, but it probably wouldn't be very appropriate at the moment.
Late to the game here, but I'm assuming Jeff's gonna have more first dates: Vietnamese: Van Loc, Mo Mong, Jenni's Noodle House. Mexican (no lard): Chuy's, Last Concert Cafe. Veg: Naturally Yours on Almeda (Jeff: if you haven't tried this place, you really should), Baba Yega, Tien Ren (former Wonderful Vegetarian). Hobbit Hole's gone way down in my estimation since moving. Indian: So many options (and I can't remember any of the names), but the place in the Village is good and the place in the office park across from the old Kirby/59 Two Pesos is good. Eclectic: Brasil and that new coffee house/bar/restaurant in the Heights (can't remember the name of it either). Also Cosmo's in the Heights. Used to be way better but still not bad. Also good for a first date: Art opening or a performance by one of the cool, younger arts groups in town (my old theater Infernal Bridegroom, Suchu Dance, Bobbindoctrin Puppet Theatre, Brazosport Li'l Players, etc.). At the least, you'll have plenty to talk about after. Good luck.
I see. Best wishes on your date and I hope the lady see the good in you - and you both thoroughly enjoy your times together.
This is your best bet my man. It's in midtown on Gray. Casual yet intimate setting. Check out the link. http://www.farrago.tv/farrago.htm
