Jason Kidd: All-NBA first team - 2004, 02, 01, 00, 99 All-NBA second team - 2003 First-Team Defensive - 1999, 2001, 2002 Second Team - 2000, 2004 Championships - Zero Finals - 2003, 2002 Sam Cassell: All-NBA first team - Zero All-NBA second team - 2004 All-Interview Team - 2004 Championships - 1995, 1994 Finals - 1995, 1994 I wouldn't compare Sam to Pippen either. The All-NBA list comparison is even more one-sided. Key difference between Cassell and Kidd: Cassell has never been successful when he is the best player on his team. Kidd's leadership skills on the court are among the best of his era. I like Sam and enjoyed watching him while he was here, but he's been absurdly cocky since getting his rings (while averaging 9 pts and 4 dimes) and has rarely beaten his rep for being an overly trigger happy PG with subpar D. He was shamelessly self-centered in New Jersey. He was at a higher level with the Bucks, and finally balanced team and personal glory, but his assists dropped noticably each year (9, 7.6, 6.7, 5.8) while at the same time he bumped his scoring avg to a career best (which he beat last year by 0.1). Whoever gets Kidd will have taken a financial suicide pill. I wouldn't even take Shaq if he had Kidd's contract. Evan
Why on Gods Earth would the Wolves trade for Kidd??? Guess what happens in crunch time, who's going to take the clutch shots? We all saw what happened last year in the playoffs. Kidd vs Detroit ZERO POINTS VS THE PISTONS IN AN ELIMATION GAME If they trade Cassell, then they GUARANTEE THE SPURS THE WEST CROWN.
no! i hope the wolves betray sam by sending him back to NJ for kidd. that way we can get sam from NJ.
If he was that bad, then how can you explain how the team went from a bad lottery team before Cassell to a playoff team with Cassell? And then back to a lottery team when they traded Cassell for Starbury? Kidd's a great star, or was when he was healthy, but that shouldn't diminish Sammy's accomplishments.
Sam is a great player and all and certainly has a special place in my heart after his acheivements in Houston but for me the comparison between him and Kidd fall apart when we add in the 'make players around them better factor' something that Sam does not really have and Kidd is one of the best in the league at......
Of course. Kidd's one of the best passers ever to play basketball. He's a "pure point guard". That's not Sam. Sam's a scorer and a scrapper, and has developed into a very good all-around PG, but he doesn't have J-Kidd's game or talent. Few do. On the other hand, there's no chance that Kidd hits the 3 in Game 5 versus the Knicks, since Kidd's a terrible shooter and has always been terrible. They're different players with different strengths. It's always easier to see the benefit of a specialist, like Kidd, than it is to see the strengths of an intangibles player like Cassell.
You know that Sam obviously plays with a chip on his shoulder. His response to being named an ALLSTAR last year Sam with the Rockets again? Imagine the ferocity that Sam would play if we played the TWolves in the Playoffs, with Sam/Tmac and Yao??
