That's another thing this will have a big impact on. With the Disney cruise line and gambling, it's enough to make Galveston a port of call. That would make the Strand area boom as well.
Galveston is about to be the gaming spot of Texas. Can't wait to see what the city will look like in five to ten years. It's about to BOOM if this passes.
Yeah, but they plan on rebuilding them into this: With Disney Cruises also coming to Galveston next year, I think it's safe to say that Galveston tourism is back and on the upside. Galveston is where most Texans go for cruises. They like to spend time on the island before their ship departs. If gambling comes, it will only help the island. Can't wait to see a skyline along the seawall.
Man, I better look into buying some property out there if this goes through. And yes...traffic on 45 will be even worse than it already is...damn.
I think it's a fantastic idea and Galveston is a natural for it. They would have to do something about the traffic coming in to Galveston as it's bad when there isn't anything going on. I can imagine the backups to downtown Houston if they did nothing before the first casinos opened.
This would be good for Galveston, good for Houston, and good for Texas. Besides, I hate all the damn vice laws, gambling included. Hopefully, this will go through!!
That's when the whores come in. Men laying their trick-money down. Twenty dollars to pay the rent? Maybe not. Maybe instead I'll spend it on the w****. Whores running around, doing their little behind-shake for the men folk...
What if Galveston steals all the best strippers and hookers from Houston after stealing all the gambling business from Louisiana? Anyway, I think this is a bad idea. I'll forsake the gambling money to avoid all the negative externalities that come with it.
Ironic that this thread would be started the day the Feds take down internet poker. This country is SOOOO messed up sometimes.
Am I the only one that thinks this is a horrible idea?! Some of you mention Atlantic City as if it's a place to emulate--are you kidding?? That place is a POS. I can't think of anything more trashy and tacky than a city built on casinos and gambling. Houston is on the verge of being a world class city; sure, casinos may help the economy of Galveston, but overall, I think it would hurt our city's image. I would absolutely cringe if I ever heard Houston being mentioned with the same appeal as Las Vegas, New Orleans, Atlantic City, etc.
