I would think more people would drive to galveston rather than lake charles, and tons of Houstonians already do that. They fixed up the Golden Nugget amazingly and they are about to do that to the Trump Marina in Atlantic City. Tilman has already invested in Gambling Company's in Texas. They're just sitting idle until a law passes. But they already have the know how.
This is a good selling point, but seriously, with the way the legislature has helped drive the deficit into where it is now do you really believe that this will help? I hope, but I doubt it!
Actually Galveston has started to pick up as of late. I have no doubt in my mind that folks from Houston and the surrounding areas would drive down to Galveston. There's a lot of money in Houston. From what my brother-in-law said, from what he can tell without getting into trouble, Fertitta has his mind set on building up Galveston's Seawall like the Santa Monica Pier. From my understanding Fertitta and other business partners have bought up a lot of property down there. They have a plan in place already. If they pass this bill, you can expect a lot of folks being bought out. They'll need hotels and etc.
after ike they got rid of a lot of the section 8 housing. my mom is 72 tomorrow, she was telling me one time when welfare was first instituted how she remembered those project homes being built in the 40s
Long overdue as far as I'm concerned. The battle between the Mitchell/Moody contingent and "The Dark Side" has been rendered moot by Ike. I speak as an off and on, longtime island resident who has listened to concerns about the character of the island being infringed on. Galveston has been wired for sound with the convention center being set up for machines from the getgo. Look at the widening of the causeway....the development of the West End,etc. It was inevitable. Crime gets cleaned up and the island is not only revitalized, but becomes a different kind of jewel. Yes, there are elements that sadden me, but it's a no brainer that can't be put off now.
If Galveston could build some more hotels and change last call to 4 a.m. you might have something special. Then again, can you imagine the people bar hopping in Houston? When 2 a.m. rolls around you're gonna get tons of people saying, "hey, lets drive to Galveston, wooooo" - and end up dead or getting a DWI. That's gonna be fun... calling it now, 45-Galvie deaths quintuple.
Good luck with that. Worst stretch of I-45 in Texas for cops is right there in LaMarque. It's where I got my DUI several years back.
Hahaha, that's a good one. Looks like the bill will pass in no time as long as it's brought up for vote.
Would the bill include a provision for a sports book? Oh man THAT would be sweet.... Craps Poker Sports Book The holy trinity of gambling....
This would be awesome. But the traffic on 45 would suck. I have a question for all the business people though. Say that you already own and rent out a condo in Galveston right now, would the value of that property go up if legalized gambling is passed?
Yes, the value will skyrocket. There have been major moves in advance of this for years .........From development to post hurricane buying stretching back.........But now....all aboard.
Not sure I care one way or the other, really, but my guess is that it will not happen or it already would have... while I reserve the right to be wrong. Perhaps TF's foray into Vegas made him the right pals and can push it through, but that's an old battleground with old money. Maybe things have changed, but... I'll believe it when I see it.
True that. I want a sportsbook. Oh Baqui, I used to live in S.A. Nice place. That being said Galveston with one sweet casino >x10 than SA.
