That would have been better from a salary cap standpoint, right? Had they held on to him and released him next offseason instead?? Hard to imagine them doing that, politically, though...while trying to sell fan base on "change" with a new regime.
He was already paid for. Now the Texans are paying him to play in Oakland and still had to pay Fitzpatrick. Could have used that money elsewhere.
If they care about public perception, maybe they should focus on the "smart" crowd that understands salary caps/roster building/etc. rather than focusing their test groups on sports radio caller guy  I don't disagree with the notion of bringing him back assuming he hadn't lost the locker room. That being said, Schaub had a very troublesome start in Oakland as well. Just not sure if he's going to be able to shake the yips.
No; it would have been PR suicide. His first INT would have caused full-blown riots. Moving on was the right call. That week 2 match-up could be really tense. If we open with a loss/poor Fiyzpatrick performance and then lose to Oakland with Schaub playing well.........
Unless they went all UNCLASSY and totally threw Kubiak under the bus blame EVERYTHING on him Saying he threw it where Kubes said throw it etc Rocket River They wouldn't do that though
As bad as Fitzpatrick has looked, I still wouldn't want Schaub back. I expect by the end of the year Savage will be the starting QB.
That's what you call the inmates running the asylum. Management made a move to satisfy the peanut gallery.
Schaub is going to rip this sad excuse for a defense to shreds and fans will remember that he was the guy who led the team to two playoff victories in two years. You have to go back 26 years to find the previous two playoff victories for a Houston football team. Jacoby Jones all over again. EDIT: He was hurt for the first win. My bad.
So you think the players are happier with Fitzpatrick...??? Lol. I doubt Schaub lost the locker room when many other players were playing like crap and or on the sidelines hurt. I think it was strictly a PR move. But you could be right though.
maybe, we'll never know but considering all thats happened, there was no way they were going to bring him back and start the season as our QB. Once you lose the city, you are done here.
I'M SORRY, BUT THIS IS ****ING RIDICULOUS Fitzpatrick has had one bad PREseason game. I know it was really bad, and he doesn't have anything in the past to show he can be better. But everyone just shut up. Make claims all you want of how they need to "only worry about the 'smart' fans that understand salary cap" or "inmates running the asylum" bull****. Every single one of you wanted Schaub gone and would have been rioting if we didn't get rid of him AND didn't get another QB at the draft/FA. BobbyTheGreat is the only one who said anything positive about Schaub and that was just to comment on how he was better than Flacco. Yea, Fitz might not work out, and maybe it was a bad pick up, but are we really going to blow this thread up with "maybe we should have kept Schaub" after one preseason game? You guys are incredible.
It's interesting to me that they gave Keenum some reps with the 1's today, wonder if Fitz is starting to feel the pressure a bit.
The assumption behind the fans' desire to get rid of Schaub was that they would be bringing in someone else to do the job who was better. I don't think anyone here is saying they wish Schaub were still the QB...just that, given how it's worked out, it might have made more sense financially.
