Sengun is a 80% ft shooter and normally finishes everything near the basket. He shot 3-10 from the field and 9–14 from ft tonight. This is the WORST you are going to see out of him and he was still the best player on the court. Simply amazing.
Man, if they can get that. And keep the fast break/iso abilities. Develop pick and roll and pick and pop with Sengun and Wood, this team could be fun as hell to watch
He was getting absolutely mugged by 2 guys whenever he was in the paint. Thus the 14 FT attempts. It’s summer league they don’t want to call fouls but damn the zebras had no choice. Mobley was being bodied and kept throwing up bricks. Sengun was being tackled.
It wasn't really a criticism, I'm not expecting a bunch of SG's to be competent at running an offense, just pointing out that Sengun would be even better if he had a competent guard out there to help run an offense
Again, this seems like scouting made easy. I said it earlier in this thread. The only question as to whether Sengun wound at least be a solid NbA contributor was because of the “down” year for the Turkish league cause of covid. otherwise there is virtually no euro that dominated their league at a young age that didn’t eventually translate. as a scout this should have been an easy call to make.
To be fair the sample size is like 3 so evaluators probably didn’t want to rely on that. Luka. Jokic the year he stayed over after being drafted. Deni Avidja, although this wasn’t Europe and his mvp is widely accepted as a marketing ploy by the Israeli league, he averaged like 13 ppg and nothing that stood out to be considered a mvp. So basically sample of 2 teenaged euro mvps that both turned into superstars in the nba. Btw at 18 Sengun was younger than both when he won it last year. Ok scouts done goofed.
AAU is bad for the bigs. They dumb them down by just turning them into rebounders and having them reclass lower.
Sengun being 19 is fundamentally sound already. He will be a great post up player! This group of 19 year olds will be fun to watch in the up coming seasons. Go Rockets! H-Town Crazy!
Id have to go back and check but Jonas, Jurkick, Dirk (obviously), Peja (ok that’s far back lol). So Jonas put up 10 and 8 with 1.6 bog in euro league before being drafted. mind you im not saying it has to be an mvp season. I’m saying it has to be a legit league (like Australia or Israel are borderline…) and the prospect has to be legit good. None of this “great measurable and upside” while barely getting any PT (the ole coaches don’t play young kids overseas excuse) and averaging 4 points a game stuff.

@CXbby Tony Parker put up like 15 ppg, 6 apg and 2 apg his last year in Paris. Pau I think was only around 11 and 5 but in the extremely good Spanish league. Ricky Rubios been basically exactly what was expected. He never got better at shooting (as many didn’t think he would after so many years already as a pro but everything else in his game translated). Again, solid league, legit starter, one of the better players on the squad. If truly dominant even better. Seems like easy scouting but what do I know ….
These days the kids just want to iso and get their points. They don’t know how to run a basic pick and roll properly. They don’t know how to or care to set up their teammates, so when you do have a quality big man they become frustrated over time. Saw it with Christian Wood all last year.
