Nah your real problem is you think because Sengun scored efficiently he is somehow equivalent to Steph Curry's nos in the freaking NBA.
I’m not comparing him to prime Curry. I’m saying you have to shoot better than prime Curry from 3 to match the efficiency he put up from 2. Therefore the argument that “I don’t want him dawg because 3>2” is dumb. Understand?
I think green could be a 25ppg guy. But like Lavine, his body type is always going to make him a big negative on defense. And also like Lavine, usually if prospects have not shown advanced playmaking ability at this age it is very unlikely that they develop it later on, which would make his offense one dimensional, efficient perhaps, but not someone you can run a championship offense through.
He's 19 years old. Was MJ the legend he became later when he was 19? Was MJ considered a good passer at 19? Yes, Green needs to work on some things. I'm sure his game will grow as his body, game matures. Speaking of this, I'm very high on Sengun, do you think at 18 his game will improve or do you think he's got room to improve? Other than Cade these two guys are the most likely to become stars, I'm hoping for a trade up for Sengun after drafting Green at # 2. These guys can be difference makers very soon and have the most ability to improve on their already way above avg games. In other words I think these guys will be stars in 4 or 5 years.
at 19 they will all improve. But as I said advanced playmaking is a skill that most either have at this point or never develop. That’s not saying it’s impossible to develop but it would be outside the norm and I wouldn’t want to bet on it. Also physically of course he will get stronger but he is clearly shorter than the listed height (closer to 6’4) and the slight frame, narrow shoulders means he will never become a tank like Harden. Lavine is the ideal upside target, and even after a season averaging 26 ppg it is still questionable whether he had any meaningful impact on actual winning.
I dont think he's terrible as a playmaker. Does he have PG skills? Nope Can he be a playmaker like say Jaylen Brown very soon? I'm thinking Yes. Is he ever going to be a tank like Harden? Nope, Can he be a difference maker in the Booker mode? Eventually I think he can. He supposedly measured in at 6'5 in socks at the combine, which is plenty tall enough, especially with his athletic ability. I see Green as a Jaylen Brown/Booker type of player. Do you see this as a player worthy of #2? I do. Tell me what you thought about the Sengun part of my post? I think he's got so much untapped potential.
I actually do think he could be a Booker like player, but that’s another guy I’m not that high on, couldn’t get his team even to the playoffs until Cp3 took them, and so far has only advanced so far due to injuries to every opponent. Is Booker at 2 worth it, sure, but I just think Mobley is just a way way bigger impact player. Sengun has tons of room to grow especially physically and that is an underrated part of him that very few people know about. He was weighing at 270 just a year ago and lost 30 pounds over the last year. A lot of the scouting that pin him as slow footed unathletic do not take that into account and was based on old footage. I’m too lazy to link it now but if we somehow draft him I’ll make a thread about it, there are photos of him from 1-2 years ago that show him looking obese compared to now, especially lower body, it has been a huge physical transformation and led to his historic season last year seemingly out of nowhere. Nobody seems to be talking about this, but with further nba level strength and conditioning I expect his athleticism to get even better and shut down all the poor defensive talk since he already has such good timing and feel for the game on defense. The other part that everyone actually does give him credit for is developing a perimeter game since he shoots 80% from the line. He just never needed an outside shot since he has been so dominant on the inside, but in the nba he will battle bigger opponents where he will have to use his quickness, that’s where setting them up with an outside jumper comes. I actually don’t think it’s a forgone conclusion that he will be a great shooter, his form needs work, he doesn’t always hold his follow through and tends to sling his shot. I think he will always be a reluctant shooter and his bread and butter will be pick and roll and post up.
Give me Green Also great post about Sengun. I think he will improve his outside shooting in the NBA. He will put in the work to improve, just like he did to lose weight and improve other parts of his game. IMHO
http://basketdergisi.com/m/alperen-sengul-en-iyi-5te.html A picture of Sengun from a couple of years ago(I believe only 2 years ago)(he is on the far right) My God look at the legs. Compare that to his latest workout pictures- Put him on the biggest loser or radical body transformations!
Not sure thats too fair. MJ, Lebron, Kobe have all had plenty of years their teams failed, it takes the right team to take you over the hump and outside of Hakeem and Dirk anomalies, its always multiple stars. Facts are that the Suns are in the finals and Devin booker is averaging along the lines of what kobe did and they are one or 2 games away from the gold. Injuries happen every single year, luck, shots, buzzer beaters happen each year, its a part of the marathon of the playoffs. Suns earned it, They wouldn't have done it without paul, they wouldn't have that done it without booker. For his first time in playoffs, going to the finals, hes getting buckets and scoring very efficiently. HEs showing that he get the job done as the best player or that he'll be in contention. As mention, kobe, lebron whoever else lost more than they won, only one team can get the league and there are so many factors to sty in that long.
The Rockets were the worst team in the league this season with a 15 win season. When you look at the Bulls roster who on that team besides Lavine do you think would upgrade our terrible team? Vucevic for sure, but he was a midseason acquisition that came far too late. Maybe Lauri Markkanen, who was so terrible this season he was benched for Thaddeus Young? Garrett Temple started 25 games for them! The Bulls were neither talented nor deep. Players like Trae Young and Devin Booker are getting lots of love this year, but they have great supporting casts. I doubt they'd have the same success if they had Lavine's roster instead. The only reason the Bulls were over .400 is because of him.
I think the Suns showed promise last season even before CP3, but the point remains that Booker has an amazing supporting cast including a HOF backcourt partner. Lavine has Coby White as his starting PG. The Hawks are super deep. Trae has Collins, Capela, Hunter, Gallo, Bogdanovic, and Lou Will. IMO, even Huerter and Reddish are nice role players. I love Trae, but if he were on the Bulls instead of Lavine how much could he elevate them?
The more I see the more I like. I don’t know how high I would trade up to get him . There are a lot of good prospects in this draft and with picks in the 20’s you’d like to take a quantity approach . I think he could go 10-20 . I think his production is a little overrated. Frankly , COVID threw off college , foreign , and NBA stats by lowering the sample sizes AND providing another set of circumstances that you have to factor in . it’s not as easy saying X player in Europe did this at a young age and was Y In the NBA so sengun has a high floor . I really like his skills . If he develops a 3 ball he will be one of the more Offensively versatile C’s from a young age . His athleticism and strength look pretty good . If you’re smart and have the right scheme you CAN play ok defense even if you’re not super athletic. Kinda reminds me of DMO . But , Dmo was a lefty and I think had better perimeter skills to start. However , senguns body is closer to NBA ready . sign me up for a sengun / kpj PnR . Frankly he’s kind of a good fit with wood . Suggs Kpj Tate Sengun Wood very interesting
It’s true there were some rumblings that due to visa issues the competition in Turkey was a little less than usual last year, but his production was such an outlier that it can’t mean nothing. And more importantly from eye test he is abusing opponents with skill rather than physical ability, which should translate to better competition.
look at the highlights posted in the thread imho alperen sengun is the one with better perimeter skills as per the post game dmo had more moves but he was kinda just a bit mechanical with them while sengun moves are more natural/intuitive and applied better to situations he finds himself in
