bonzi wells can`t shoot! he is another clog up the middle player who helps his percentages b/c h is so strong inside and people give him the ouside shot or his percentages would be much worse....................i guess we need to clarify what a shooter (pure) is in the first place. Bottom line....right now there maybe 3 players in the entire league who can shoot at jj`s level right now, and most of them have parts, ie, can shoot free throws and mid range...but can`t shoot long range. The other point worth noting is we want jj to not only hit the wide open 3`s......we also want him to hit the one`s where josh howard comes running at him trying to recovr quickly from the double team, often times reddick will have an inch....and he has proven if he has an inch your looking at a high percentage of made 3`s! We nee a shooter who can play 35 minutes a game...not some bullard who plays 15 minutes...that`s why we spend the #1 on reddick and avoid some guy who just specializes in the 3. Reddick is a an average athlete, good for a shooter, he can drive, good passer, and he can play passing lanes. I will admit that i like roy from washington, but for our team reddick is the better player for our needs....we already have plenty of inside scoring ability....and roy cannot shoot good enough for what we need....his outside shooting percentage from range is not in reddick`s league/level. We don`t need another slasher to clog up the middle, you saw san antonio, those slashers hurt in the playoffs when everybody just packs it in and dares them to shoot outside.....it hurt san antonio bad, the fact that they had no one besides finnley, and barry who could shoot outside....and their best starting backcourt is prker/genobli....two slashers who were dared to shoot outside and they couldn`t deliver consistently enough to open it up for a yao to just kill dallas`s dejope (sp)...there is no way (dejope) can play yao one on one like he did duncan during crucial times in that series....so they will triple team yao...and hope to rotate back on shooters.....hence the need to have a reddick to make it really hard to fully commit 2 players to yao. I don`t think the rockets will pick jj, as jvg has influence enough to take heisman quarterback/ for 3 years when nobody would do that..he couldn`t even play for san antonio 3rd string in the playoffs ( so i strongly think the rockets gm/coach are incompetent in judging talent/correct fits for us) so this is just who he rockets should take....and by no means do i think they will make the right decision...i just hope they screwup the least and at least take someone like sheldon williams wo can help our power forward position from its current inept state. but can sheldon really guard the mobil dirk....i don`t think you worry about that....as dirk would have to fight him tougher on the boards than juwan/swift who are complete soft dogs.
Wasn't Kobe Bryant leaning towards Duke before he went pro at age 17? Name one school who hasn't had their lineage of disappointing pros. How about UCLA; you can name a zillion of those guys who flopped-- even from the 60's and 70's in their heyday. The Michigan Fab 5 offered two way-better-than-average pros (Webber and Rose) and one better-than-average (Howard). The rest? pfffft.......
The reason why I would take Brewer is Height 6'7, versatile, the ability to play 3 positions and better defensive player.
If Reddick is the 3rd best player on the team, the rockets are in troulble against the suns, mavericks and spurs.
The idea here is to win a championship. The Rockets will not beat a Dallas team with Reddick starting at the 2. There's mismatches on both ends.
No way the Rockets spend their 8th pick on an undersized, one dimensional , career backup 2 guard. Didn't we already do that last year???
http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Rocketscom_Draft_Central-181162-468.html Hey nba.com/rockets mentioned Clutchfans! Is that the first time ever?
Isn't Jason Terry smaller than Redick? Make Terry play a lot of defense and maybe he's not such an effective offensive player down the stretch...
so you want redick playing point guard, or are you saying run plays for alston? regardless, if your offense revolves around getting shots for redick you have problems. whoever plays the two and the three should get shots from t-mac and yao and that should be the extent of the game plain for whoever is playing those positions.
im no reddick fan but ive yet to hear any solid arguments for not picking reddick other than his lack of athleticism. part of the issue is we have several holes to fill, but to me if youre going to cheerleader for a pick or poo-poo someones pick, say why you feel one way or the other. right now, we want everything to be solved in a pick and its simply not going to happen. if you could do a word search for shooting/defense/rebounding/athleticism those would be the dominant posts, correct? so ok, lets look at each of those areas and the picks that COULD help out in those areas. bear in mind that with each pick, you would love an instant contributor but understand they will likely be a bench contributor initially, at best. also factor in that any "projects" better be quick ones, because we may not have the luxury of 2-4 years to develop. and rudy gay gets no mention whatsoever because it is astronomically unlikely he will be available to us (ive shed enough man-tears). so bearing that in mind.... SHOOTING: based on 4 years of performance and not on rigged workouts, reddick has to be near the top of the list. yes, hes one-dimensional but like ive said elsewhere, its one heck of a dimension. i understand the duke history and all that, but he was the main option on that team and every single team that played them knew it and yet he still got his. i realize that means plays were made exclusively to get him the ball, but wouldnt you want at least the THREAT of a sharpshooter to keep teams honest on yao and tmac? if anyone has other suggestions i would be interested to hear them DEFENSE: carney and brewer have the most potential to be lock-down defenders, and if they can be that then great. other than that, they are pretty one-dimensional (athletic) as well until proven otherwise. both are long and quick, and would make excellent perimeter defenders to guard anything from quick PGs to perimeter PFs (and allowing Tmac go get lighter duty on defense). collins gets an honorable mention because his size (6'6") would allow him to guard PG/SG pretty...but again, if anyone has other suggestions id love to hear them (i tend to develop draft-tunnel vision after a while) REBOUNDING: the quickest choice available would be shelden williams...my only issue is that he appears to be a slightly slower, poor-mans elton brand. which certainly isnt bad, but is it good enough to help? also, i believe he played C primarily in college, so would there be an issue adjusted to a PF? is very solid in the paint, but outside of that can he help offensively or defensively? i kinda like matt haryasz (6'11" PF/C) because even though he isnt a chiseled specimen, hes an above-average jack-of-all trades PF/C: he can shoot the outside shot and even is solid at the 3-ball line, but still has the training and can mix it up down low for rebounds; the added bonus is his game is pretty nba-ready, could definitely come off the bench. btw, i would use the #32 for him...again, yeas/neas/additions are welcome ATHLETICISM: project land for us...if you just a raging athleticism fan/fetishist (sp?), then either carney or brewer, and thats a no-brainer. carney and brewer are the most intruiging prospects, but can anyone say that they have one consistent, outstanding feature from their college career that translates to the pros? so, the point of this long-winded post? to help out w/our needs at #8, given the current draft trajectory id be ok w/either taking reddick (for NBA-ready shooting) or collins (for PG, defense, some rebounding) and at #32 taking haryasz (shooting, rebounding, defense) or novak (PF shooting). whatdya think?
Looks as though in Chad Fords latest Blog today, says that JJ is probably going to be the rockets pick at #8 and he also thinks he will be the third best player on the team. He has impressed in every aspect of his game including his shooting during workouts and Boston at #7 is considering him. Don't know how to get the link on ESPN, but check it out.
Boston at #7 is considering him. Lord knows the Celts do not have a single player who can play the 2 besides Paul Pierce, Gerald Green, Tony Allen, Orien Greene, ...
The initial Celtics trade offer between Orlando was one-sided (Boston wanted too much). So then there was the spec. re: Rocks & Magic swapping picks. The media has been strong in alledging Orlando wants to trade up. Prior to this Ainge was all over the Spanish Chocolate guy. IMO Magic & Celtics blowing smoking and waiting to see who turns up and with what.
Doesn't Terry play the 2 with Devin Harris playing the 1? I don't get people lumping Redick in a non-athletic class with Bryce Drew or some other past Rocket mistake.. He's not Kobe and He's not Bryce Drew... but he might be Jason Terry.
I've watched so many games of Carney/Brewer/redick on the College Tv package........ I feel Carney is another James Posey at this point (with potential to be a 3 point shooting Richard Jefferson but with even less ability to creat his shot) Brewer is another Marquis Daniels (bigger, less shot, less range) Redick is shorter Michael redd with a better shot and more range. Ok who do you pick first? James Posey (Carney) Richard Jefferson (what Carney MIGHT be - but Swift MIGHT be Amare so) Marquis Daniels (Brewer) Michael Redd (Redick) Yes those are the players they most resemble and compare closest to. Well the rest of the board can have their views but I'd take Posey last (Carney at face value), then Daniels next (Brewer), then Jefferson (what Carney could develop to) then Redd first (Redick). But as long as people keep thinking Brewer is Josh Howard, or Carney is already Richard Jefferson with an outside shot added in no less, and Redick is Matt Maloney it will be hard to get on track with how the Rockets would be analyzing it. Bottom line, people overrate Carney by quite a lot, Brewer by a bit, and underrate Redick to the point of absurdity. If JVG is right with his "we will draft the best player available" then it will be Redick, which is in exact contrast to what many here seem to believe because they seem to be vastly overrating Carney, overrating Brewer and vastly underrating Redick.
Well, I cannot say I disagree with this. However, we are not drafting Posey, Daniels, Jefferson and Redd. Closely resemble does not mean equal to.
