that's a good point about head. if we drafted R-E-D-I-C-K we would essentially be drafting a player we already have, but the one we already have is a more versatile and a much better athlete. people, we don't NEED redick! we need an athletic and versatile swingman who can can an open jumper, and/or a PF who can provide anything substantial alongside yao.
I think Redick reminds me a lot of Sarunas Jasivikicous both are 6'4 and are dead eye 3 point shooters but are unathletic and can't do much else. Hell i'll go out on a limb and say Redick will probably play similar minutes and put up similar numbers to Sarunas did this past year 20 mins a game .396 from the field .364 from 3pt land and 90% free throw shooter and will average around 7 ppg. Now I'm basing this off of just my personal feeling and how I think Redick will do since hes a carbon copy of Sarunas in my eyes so he may actually do way better than I'm guesstimating but I certainly feel we can draft a much better prospet at the 8 spot.
Touche. You make good points. However, any argument you make on the basis of fg% isn't really fair. Luther wasn't a go-to guy. His percentage is higher just due to that. Redick took the majority of his shots with a man directly in his face. Other times he was 10 feet behind the three-point line. Redick is a better 3-point shooter than Luther. I don't think many would argue against that. Another thing you mention is Redick being shut down by Ager. How many points did Ager score on Redick in that game? 14 point on 6 of 13 shooting. Not exactly lighting it up against such a weak defender. That the year before last year anyway. Look, I know Redick has his faults. He's not a great defender or a great athlete. However, he is a great shooter. This team needs shooters. I'm not saying we take him at #8. I say you move down to the 11-15 range and pick him up there and get whatever you can to move down.
I don't think we should draft Redick at 8 but moving away from the ball and squaring himself up with the basket very quickly (as a catch and shoot specialist) is what seperates a player like Redick from Sarunas.
nothing against reddick he is prolly one of the greatest 3 point shooters but we CANNOT draft another undersized shooting gaurd....carney or brewer is who we need they will be able to gaurd the bigger gaurds and such so tmac doesnt have to play much defense and focus on offense
i'm having trouble picturing Redick guarding any starting SG or PG in the NBA. It'd be insane to draft him at #8.
Keeps? As in he's already done so? I was under the impression his workouts had gone over well and the Blazers are all about him at the #4 selection? I definitely could be wrong, by all means, I just haven't heard yet anything that suggested otherwise.
Not much in terms of concrete evaluation, but he's mentioned a couple of times at the link below. Look at the pieces titled "Sonics audition Foye, Duke pair" and "Will Redick wear Jazz colors?". http://www.draftexpress.com/headlines.php#2013 Also, here is his workout schedule... http://www.draftexpress.com/workout.php?sort=0&pid=16&tid=0 He will NOT be participating in the Orlando pre-draft camp from June 6-13. He, like most other Lottery hopefuls, will only be there to undergo a physical. Hope that helps.
You have to pay attention to where the players on that list were drafted. Most of the guys were late picks in the first round or second round and if you look at picks after # 18 (like mcleod, jones, carrawell, ewing, and duhon were) in the last 5 years, no one has become an all star. And really only josh howard is a potentially great player. Jay Williams cant be evaluated due to injury, . The only busts were Avery and Langdon. I think we would all like to have brand, magette, boozer, deng, battier and even dunleavy on this team.
it's not that roy is tanking workouts...he's actually doing very well in the ones he attends. the problem is he has dropped out of three already. personally, i think his agent or whoever has simply scheduled him for too many workouts all across the country. there is no way he should be doing as many workouts as he has had scheduled, especially being a consensus top 6 or 7 pick.
College championships and final 4 appearences are hardly important when discussing NBA pro potential. There are very few players that can average 27ppg against top quality college programs, AND, being the one guy the defense tries to stop. You guys are vastly underestimating Redick, he may not be Dwayne Wade, but he is no Trajan Langdon either. He will be a GREAT complimentary player on a team that has superstars and demands double teams. A Jeff Hornacek type of player, and that is EXACTLY what the Rockets need to compliment Yao and Tmac. Just look how well Barry did in his first year here before his injuries....now imagine a guy who can shoot that good, and is younger, more athletic, and just as smart......... DD
This is where I disagree with many posters on this site. The Rockets, especially in the next few years, will NEVER be a running team. We have a 7'6 310lb man who needs to be on the court as much as possible. As long as he is on the court, we arent running. Everybody is so caught up with the Suns and to an extent the Mavs, but just look at the Heat. Yes I know the Heat have better roleplayers, but they play a halfcourt offense based around 2 stars. If any team, we should try to emulate their roster. The Mavs are a hybrid, they can run if they have to or they can slow it down. They are good at both styles, but not GREAT at either. That is why they ran to take care of the spurs and are slowing it down to take care of the Suns. Basically what I am saying is that if we try to overextend and follow the Mavs lead, it would take us years to build up a roster that deep and versatile. So (and Im no coach) I think that the wise move is to accentuate (spelling?) what we already have. Redick would be great on this team despite what some are saying. I wouldnt pick him with the 8, but I wont be disappointed if he is our choice. Stop being so dense people, we aren't the Suns or the Mavs and we don't have the time/ability to become those two teams. Last I checked the Heat are in the finals and the Spurs were one overtime away from continuing their defense of a title. Halfcourt game is more than adequate. Stop with all this Suns-running nonsense.
i agree with you to a degree. We have Yao who is slow but he is our left hook and has to be on the floor. However, our supporting cast has to be mobile and multi-dimensional and that is not Redick.
