I've been thinking this for a long time. If the major democratic powers of the world would occupy the Middle East, I feel that the world would be a much more peaceful place. I felt this way before this tragedy, and I feel this way even more now. It's time to gut those primitive nations.
If we got to the point of actually taking a government down, I think i'd be more like we were the French helping the colonials out. Bottling up the British so to speak. No one thinks it would be realistic to actually take another government down without internal support.
Jag, Take down the current government and then build up their society, much like we did with Germany, Japan, and Italy, under the Marshall plan after WW2. You can not just take them out, you have to have a plan for their future as well. I want peace for my family, and all other peaceful families in the world. I agree that the governments that get taken down may not like the fact that they can't do anything about it, but you know what? TOUGH !!! History is written by the victors, and it is time to take charge of terrorism, and snuff it out BEFORE it gets a nuclear weapon. DaDakota
ZRM, i really pray you're being sarcastic. You do know that this is exactly what occured in Aftica, right? The Dutch, French, English, etc all decided for themselves where the borders for nations should be with no regard to existing tribal cultures. That led to a lot of stability, huh?
Jag, If those governments are housing Terrorists openly, then we are at war with them, it is EXACTLY like WW2. DaDakota
Dylan, I agree with you on this one. And I don't think we can stereotype all the governments in the Middle East as 'primitive' and certainly not the people as 'primitive.' Although I do think we can take the governments to task if they can be shown to be involved.
Well, I'm angry dammit! So I threw the word "primitive" in there. Something should be done, and I feel that some kind of occupation would lead to peace, eventually. I'm not an expert on world politics, so if my initial post was overly simplistic, forgive me.
Gee, I didn't know we had so many eurocentric morons on the site. I can't begin to imagine Bingo's comments, considering DaDorkota's comments are still in print.
Achebe, If that is an attemp to in any way belittle my views of the current situation, then be man enough to speak your mind. Any government that OPENLY houses terrorists, and thus supports them, is, IMHO an enemy of the USA. I do not advocate killing innocent people in any way, I don't like it in Ireland, I don't like it on the West Bank, I don't like it with the Kurds in Iraq, and I won't TOLERATE it here in America. If people have been fighting the same STUPID battle for thousands of years, with no end in site, it is time for someone to step in and educate them on the proper respect for human life. Another Crusades? Hardly !! but, an overthrow of governments that are enemies of the US of A, you betcha. Anyone that had ANYTHING to do with this, needs to be hunted down and dealt with in the harshest manner. We have a unique chance to bring stability to a region that has been fighting for THOUSANDS of years, why not take it? DaDakota
By violating the sovereignty of half a dozen muslim nations? Sure, OK. Maybe we should just capture all of the Jews in Israel and transport them to Montana, and say "sorry, we screwed up the colonization last time. Oh yeah, if Jesus was a fisherman, he was a fly fisherman, it's all good". Might is not right. It's one thing to retaliate against someone violating your safety/sovereignty... but it's assanine to do it a 1000 fold against entire nations of people that are just trying to live a life. It's also assanine to insinuate you'll invoke your standards on someone merely b/c you can. **** man, don't you understand that's what got us attacked in the first place? This wasn't about the preponderance of McDonald's in the region... it's about us violating the humanitarian rights of Iraqi civilians for our economic stability and enforcing Jewish colonialism in the Middle East. BTW, what will you say if we're all wrong and it turns out this was a dozen or so militant Americans? Should we take over Kansas? Should we take out those militants Bob and Elizabeth? I'd say then that you'll be as confused as the rest of us are.... I'd say then your 'answers' will become gasps...
DaKota, Have you researched when bold moves like the ones you are suggesting have actually worked? They haven't. Ever. It's a little silly to think that our orchestrating the capturing of all muslim holy lands would somehow REDUCE the danger of terrorist attacks on our country. How about this; The U.S. finds out who did this, punishes them severely and increases anti-terrorist funding. Isn't that a little bit more..... realistic? You are nuts, and if not that, very wrong. fromobile.
Achebe, this is pure conjecture on your part. And I'm not sure how we're violating the 'humanitarian rights of the Iraqi civilians,' whatever humanitarian rights are. Sanctions against Iraq are not just in place from the US, but also other world powers, and even...yes other Arab powers. If you're talking about the bombing of Iraq, they did I believe invade a neighbor and threaten the security of oil and hence the economy of the world. As per 'enforcing Jewish colonialism,' I am getting tired of this particular accusation. No country has worked as tirelessly, and been given more slaps in the face, than the US on this issue. Why do you think Arafat has a piece of land to call Palestine? The US pressure on Israelis to settle the issue. Why is there a peace process at all? Because of US pressure on Israelis. Could we force the Jews out of Israel? Not by a long shot. Get a grip on world politics. It is not a black and white issue, and frankly I'm tired of the US taking cheap shots from every side, when our only goal in the region is STABILITY. This was already written about in this thread, but I'm sure that most people would demand justice of domestic terrorists as much as foreign terrorists. If a local or state government was harboring or helping these terrorists, I can assure you the Federal government would remove them, if the local populace didn't lynch them first. Personally, I wouldn't mind if they were domestic, as they'd be easier to track and catch, and eliminate.
I don't believe that DaDakota is actually proposing that we invade and chop up the Middle East. More realistically he is proposing that we take whatever governments are supporting terrorism to task. Task = ass whipping.
I absolutly believe that we should take down any government that is OPENLY protecting terrorists. I do not care about stepping on toes here gentlemen, the time for talking is over, AMERICA has been attacked, innocent people are now dead. I know that others around the world are dying as well, and frankly it SICKENS me. I do not condone any act of cowardice like this, it is apprehensible. However, it is just as bad to NOT respond and to think that a diplomatic solution will work. What has been proven is that it won't. We buried our head in the sand TWO times in the last century and we ended up with a huge World War, we CAN NOT afford to do that again. I don't say take down governments that we don't agree with, just the ones that are openly harboring terrorists, thus promoting it. DaDakota
Dakota raved: ...Russia, you can have this section, China, you can have this section, and Britain/US will take this section. I would contact the Government of Afganastan, (sic) and tell them they have 48 hours to hand over Bin Laden, if he is not handed over, we will attack with a fury never before seen on this planet. I would take out Libya, I would take out Iraq, Iran, and all the other little pissant countries that are against democracy. " This nonsense by Dakota makes him feel good but is not helpful or realistic. Just start killing. maybe start World War III. How macho! How John Wayne! How Clint Eastwood! How knee jerk unthinking! How sterotypical right wing. Should we take over Israel, too? They are a major part of the problem and one of ther reasons why the Arabs hate us so much. Israel has been trying the tough guy approach to terrorism by not conceding that the Palestinians have civil rights or the right to a homeland also. Dakota, however, would argue that the Israelis have not suceeded because they have not been forceful enough. The kneejerk right refuses to do the self analysis required to see how unjust US policies help nurture terrorism. Unfortunately with just a military response (and one is needed) to terrorism we will make no significant progress. If you want justice fight for peace!
Dakota, I think you've been watching too much of the History Channel, and waaaaay too much pro wrestling. fromobile-
Glynch, For crying out loud, grow a backbone. This country has BEEN attacked, the time for talking out the differences is over. It has escalated BEYOND talk. At least John Wayne would have fought for this country, you, my friend would have burned your draft card and headed off to Canada. Cowardice will not be tolerated. DaDakota
