From wikipedia [rquoter] The Belgians are noted for claiming that french fries are Belgian in origin, but have presented no absolute evidence; the French have also been cited as possible creators of the dish, though most in France associated fries with Belgium. The Spanish claim that the dish was invented in Spain, the first European country in which the potato appeared via the New World colonies, and then spread to Belgium which was then under Spanish rule. Whether or not french fries were invented in Belgium, they have become the national dish, and they are the "symbolic" creators, at least for the rest of Europe. [/rquoter] Of course Belgum and the Netherlands were the same country off and on until 1830.
Ikea sells furnature that is very "Danish" in style, but it is definately from Sweeden. Danish furnature all looks like it came from a really cool Ikea and is extremely expensive and well built. Here's a Danish Auctioneer that sells some really cool Danish furnature every once in a while. Of course (again) Denmark and Sweeden were both part of the same country/union off and on for the last thousand years, so Danes really have quite a bit in common with Swedes, and to a lesser degree Finns and Norwegians.
There's this really eclectic furniture/knick knack store on Martha's Vineyard ran by a very sweet old couple. It full of Danish furniture. A chair I really liked was $6000 dollars. sigh
Further proof that andrew sullivan is just a democrat in republican drag...not that there's anything wrong with that!
I myself like contemporary furniture, but really all I give a damn about is my Lazboy, you can take the rest...
You know? Between the muslim and christian right these days, it sure is hard being a non-religious person.
i have a long list of Benny quotes that would make you sick. his manipulation of people and my faith to earn a few bucks doesn't sit well with me.
i cant folks believe that dude. i saw that whole channel 14 group in nashville once. i was out on a business dinner and they all were there drinking champagne and eatin in style in this nice italian place. i figure they were rich.
nah, i'm having a great time. in fact, most of the neocons i know are pretty non-religious. they're just not anti religious.
Since the 'toons are on the Internet, wouldn't that mean abandoning trade deals with pretty much every nation in the world?
I guess I was using a stereotype when I assumed that they blew up the embassy in Syria rather than setting it ablaze.
To me, this is just the Syrians showing their utter hatred of the West. To Syria, Europe and America are the reason their nation is in such dire straights. Of course, Syria can only blame itself. It needs to revamp its economy from the inside, make its own military hardware, conduct its own research. It might take a generation or two, but they can do it.
(CNN) -- Islamic anger over newspaper depictions of the Prophet Mohammed is boiling over into violence around the world, with protesters targeting the embassies of countries where the cartoons were published. Smoke billowed Sunday from the Danish consulate in central Beirut, where hundreds of demonstrators thronged streets around the building to protest a Danish newspaper's publication of cartoons depicting Islam's revered prophet. Wielding sticks and stones, the demonstrators attacked the building, smashing its windows. Initially, the army did not appear to be in control, but later deployed hundreds of troops in army personnel carriers to restore order. Sunday's demonstrations came a day after Muslims in the Syrian capital Damascus torched the Norwegian and Danish embassies. Newspapers in both countries published images of Islam's Prophet Mohammed, which is banned by Islamic law. Thousands of angry Muslims also protested in other cities around the world, including Islamabad, Pakistan; Baghdad, Iraq; Khartoum, Sudan; Jakarta, Indonesia; and the Palestinian territories.
