How so? The administration didn't say "freedom of expression is bad", they simply said that people should use their rights responsibly. That should be the norm in a democracy, or otherwise our society would turn into one big street fight with each side calling the other "terrorist" and "NAzi" and all other deragatory terms.

Respectful debate, respectful disagreement, don't provoke or incite or villify those you disagree with. Is that too much to ask in a supposed civil society? What happened?

They are considered prophets, just like Mohammad pbuh.

We believe their original teachings to be from god as well, and we consider jews and christians to be people of the book.

That is the true teaching of islam. Now people who dunno this, claim that all infidels should die and bomb a ton of those innocent people, these are misinformed and illiterate people.

I do go around correcting the misinformed ones, and I do that on this board, and I also try correcting misinformation about Islam amongst non Muslims, now since I dont have any direct connections to those trying to kidnap euros, or kill danes, i cant correct them.

since no muslim on this board who can answer why it's such a big deal to make fun of their prophet, i'll take a guess. massive, deeply-seeded inferiority complex. it's a freakin pandemic.

Sorry, must have missed your post...

"Inferiority complex"? If anything, many radical Muslims are more of the "supremacist" type.

It's a big deal because Muslims have deep respect for everything holy, and when someone calls their prophet a terrorist, that's the ultimate slap in the face.

It's really as simple as that...

You know, for a self-proclaimed "englightened" guy, you sure are pretty stubborn.

Refer back to tens if not hundreds of previous threads to see where those "protests" are.

Because in Islam people love the prophet at the same level that they love their parents. Now dont tell me that if someone calls your dad/mom to your face a terrorist, and some sort of a perv you wouldnt get mad enough to pummel his face into the ground?

Different morals, different culture. Yes it may seem wierd to you the love that one group has for a man they haven't even met, but its different per society.

By "civilized" I assume you're referring to yourself? Are you a secularist?

It bothers me the same reason why those "uncivilized" Chinese people were bothered by how the Japanese continued to spit in their faces with their revisionist history books, it's a disrespect for what I hold dear to me, and that's first and foremost my faith, and in the Chinese' case it's a matter of national honor.

It just offends me that some prominant newspaper would publish offensive cartoons targeted exclusively at denegrating my religion. It's a matter of respect, it offends me, but not enough to go out and bomb something or kill someone; that's where I disagree with those who threaten violence.

I have no problem with the PRC protest. I made the point that the ME protest have a penchant to take it to a more dangerous level. Whereas I don't have the same fear with the Chinese protest. Unless you can direct me to the links about the hooded Chinese extremists with the AK threatening to kidnap Japanese to protest. I never feared those protest would denigrate to that level.

Isn't there a more peaceful way of protesting the cartoons? I agree with the stance of boycotting countries products etc.

It seems that the more moderate way would be more effective as violence only causes people to dig their heels in and not listen anymore.
