49 million, which is 3 million more than TMAC, and I seriously doubt he is going to "earn" that. It will be another toxic contract that we will be unable to unload, like TMAC's Also I really do not any more players who effort has been in major question at any time. Lets just keep our young players and sign them to what they are worth.
Comparing Carter's contract to T-Mac's is EXACTLY why it is extremely scary. It would be one thing to take on Carter's contract while relieving ourselves of T-Mac's. But to have both together? It would be unheard of, outside of the Isaiah Thomas era...
We see that.................................we just don't like the fact, IMO, that we will be outta the '10 bonanza................................plus this guy is getting so old he may turn into Tracy McGrady x2 next year or so..........................I know we need to get value for Ron but I would rather trade Tracy for him.....................wont happen.............................like my periods........................................
if we can get rid of Tmac, then we do it....VC will have more value than Tmac this summer if we feel the need to move him....think about it
I would rather have Artest walk out on us, and having Mac's expiring contract, going into 2010 than the albatross that is Vince Carter's contract, which would only seem 'reasonable' for a team that is in desperation mode (that seems to be us right now). We are like a drunk guy at the bar right now, we might do something crazy enough that we will regret later on when we sober up. Friends don't let friends trade for Carter.
Vince Carter might be having a good yr avg 20.8 ppg and 5 rpg.. but im not a big fan of this trade.. i mean c'mon.. his contract is not only HUGE, he is getting old really fast.. and LANDRY! no! this is ONLY his 2nd yr.. he has ton of potential, undersized but plays with energy and is able to block the shot.. he's has his jumper down now.. 5 yrs from now.. this kid will be a beast.. while FIVE YEARS from now.. VINCE carter will more than likely be done! ..and ARtest.. c'mon! his ppg avg might be down.. but this guy is one of our strongest players.. he plays with all his heart, never slacks off.. steals the ball often. plays good d and is a vet. not for Vince at his age.. i dnt like this trade in the long run.. Landry has too much potential
Well, this might be one of those throw all of your marbles in this season. Carter will help the Rockets this season, but I agree he seems to be on a very steady and consistent decline. He's never lived up to the hype when he got into the league - which was to be a franchise cornerstone. Next year, I can already start hearing the grumblings of the Rocket fans. Because with Yao, McGrady, and Alston shooting a ton of the shots, Vince Carters numbers will be more in the 15 points per game range. I think this move in my opinion is being done since McGrady might be sitting out the rest of the season. So you cover the scoring with Carter. Line up going into the playoffs: Yao; Mutumbo Scola; Hayes Battier; Wafer Carter; Barry Alston; Brooks (Because Landry, Head, Artest get traded out of here. McGrady has season ending surgery) Plus, the other thing allowing the Rockets to maybe consider moving Landry is the development of Dorsey. Maybe he is making progress in the practices. If Dorsey pans out, he will be the Backup at Center and Powerfoward with a ton of muscle to push and wear people down.
Not a bad deal at all when you consider he has really only two years where you have to pay him which will make you commited to him until 33-34. When you consider year four can be declined by the team if his skills have diminished you have a three year deal for a 31 year old player. This means he is on our books a minimum of 2 1/2 years and brings a very valuable expiring deal for trade in year three which just so happens to be the year Kevin Durant tires of losing in OKC and wants to return to his adopted home state of Texas. Put this in your bookmarks and come back to it when it happens to thank me. So everyone jump on board because acquiring Vince is our best chance to win now with Yao and the current group and it also guarantees us Kevin Durant in a few years, when you see this it really is the greatest thing that could happen to the Rockets. Let those other fools chase the pipe dream that is 2010 while we lock up the most promising player in year 2011; enjoy it Rocket fans you just parlayed a locker room cancer and a guy with a bum knee into the biggest star since His Airness. Seriously though, the Vince deal as I explained above has been covered ad nauseam in many threads but never quite so eloquently as I have done it above, it will be a great deal for the Rockets.
It's 3 million more, but we also get an extra year of production. Not to mention that Carter is so much closer to earning his money right now than Tracy is or probably ever will be again. It's not even a comparison that should be made, in my opinion. Tracy's contract is hard to unload because he's injured. If Carter isn't injured when he becomes an expiring contract, I imagine he'll actually be pretty easy to move. Fair argument, but I do believe that Carter is haunted by his days in Toronto more than anything. Since going to New Jersey, he hasn't really been a problem. In fact, the past couple of seasons Vince has been appeared to be quite devoted to the cause.
there is no 2010 sweepstakes so leave it alone. There are only 4 players worth getting and we will get none of them
What is your evidence of this? He's putting up 21/5/5 with a steal on nice percentages. Not to mention his PER is right at his career average and his true shooting % is his second highest ever. I see absolutely no signs of rapid decline.
Yao's window is short. McGrady's window is even shorter if existent. Carter's window is short. If this is an option, you take it. The cap is screwed, but you have the weapons to win and it is already screwed. If it doesn't work, you rebuild one year later than you wanted.
You know, I actually forget that he is from time to time. I think it's because I've rarely had a complaint.
What is the validity of the "we must get something out of Ron Artest's expiring contract"? This is Daryl Morey we're talking about; 8 million in free cap space to make good signings is worth more than taking on an overpriced talent such as every star on his second contract is wont to be. I'd rather let him go and see how we do this year than financially cripple ourselves for 2-3 years to come.
I may be wrong, but I'm reasonably sure that if Artest walks we would still be over the cap. We would still be stuck with the MLE only, which is an option we have whether or not Ron is on the team.
...and I think his ceiling isn't much higher than it is right now. There I said it. Great guy, fun to watch, but I can't see him developing into a solid starter at any point in his career. I like Landry a lot - I really do, but if for another team acquiring Landry is the deal breaker for that team willing to dish out something good for an undersized older 2nd yr player with a significant injury history and who appears to be reaching his ceiling, I'm okay with that. Again, I LOVE watching Landry play but I doubt he could ever be anything more than a solid role player with some injury issues. Remember, folks he gets most of those dunks with the 2nd unit. He rarely matches up on consecutive nights with the starting bigs and if he did I think we would see a decline in his production. ....regarding the first poster, I can't see how on one hand you mention Yao's window is closing and he needs help fast and on the other hand you negate Carter because his window is closing and he has a large contract(which really isn't too bad since he would only play with us for a year and a half). 20pt+ scorers don't exactly grow on trees and Houston has a chance to pick up one to replace the one we have who is wilting. Plus Carter has a good jump shot and typically those guys find ways to stay productive longer rather than the ones who get by on athleticism only. Houston has to consider getting him exactly because Yao's window is closing and there aren't a lot of guys on the market as productive as Carter.
This isn't a bad scenario IMO. This year you go to war with Yao, Carter, Battier, Scola, Alston and maybe T-mac. Next year you have a huge chip to trade in a T-mac expiring contract at the deadline just like Artest this year. If T-mac can play next year then you have a great lineup of Yao/Carter/T-mac if not then trade T-mac for a Carter level player next year and continue the Big 3. The following year you have another trade chip in Carter's expiring contract. You're giving yourself a lot of flexibility with collecting these expiring contracts each year. LARGE expiring contracts as well. I also trust in Morey's ability to find young talent like Brooks and Landry in the draft. I also have a hunch that Morey will be able to do a Artest for Carter deal without having to include Landry.
