I posted this in another thread but since it applies here as well... Gee, I could have sworn that they play different positions... so isn't your arguement/comparison moot? Apples vs Oranges? ------------------ The truth is out there.
Vince shot poorly last year from the arc, but this year he has stepped it up and can hit from about anywhere. More explosive than Jordan? I do not agree. I will show you some video I have at home. Maybe Carter is more POWERFUL, but not more explosive. ------------------ HOOP-T Hey Shaq, Acme called, and they want their bricks back!
Great points Swopa. Carter is nice, but isn't even in the same tier as Jordan was. I know I've ragged on Kobe in the past, but he has really come a long way this season. In terms of overall game, I would put even Kobe ahead of Vince. Kobe has been shutting top-flight guards down, helping out Shaq on the boards, and has been making good decisions all year. He is also a much better ball-handler than Vince, and I feel that if Kobe were on any other team (w/out a threat like Shaq), he could easily be averaging 28 a game. One other thing: I think MJ still doesnt get enough run. He won with clowns like Kerr and Longley playing major roles. Even Scottie (who is still a marvelous defender) he made look like a superstar. Carter on the other hand has a legit second-star in McGrady, Doug Christie (who is always among the leaders in steals a game), and proven bad boy garbagemen (Willis,Davis,Oakley) to take the pressure off him and do the dirty work. MJ did his own dirty work. ------------------ "Sources tell me that the Blazers held a team meeting after the two losses..." - "Pistol" Pete Vescey with the inside scoop. I guess we're in good company in our opinions, Mr. Cabbage. In the words of The Man himself, "Vince doesn't play defense." Which should probably be the last word on the subject. ------------------
So how do we compare this thread to the ones that say "Jordan is not the best player ever"? Who wants to run with that tangent, and say Chamberlain was best...hehe No, seriously folks...as others pointed out, Jordan was the best defensive guard ever. Named to the NBA Best Defensive team a record 11 years in a row. Nah, actually 6-(baseball)-3 for an official total of 9. Plus he was named Defensive Player of the Year, once. These are unmatched numbers for a guard --- EVER. Add that to the neverending Jordan comparisons. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited March 23, 2000).]
MJ did his own dirty work? What was D Rodman's function on the team? What was B Cartwright's reputation with the elbows? Refs took care of some his dirty work too. Mango ------------------ It could be worse ....... you could have been born a Jazz fan!!!!
