GM wanted the things to last 15 years, but I think that may have been reduced to around 10 years or slightly less. I'm still not sure how long these will truly last in the real world. Anybody know if they'll be covered under the warranty? I want vehicles like this to succeed (we had EV vehicles back in the 90's but they died a sad death). I'd buy one, but not the first generation. Hopefully Toyota, Honda, Chrysler, etc. can capitalize as well. Chrysler is about to reveal their plans for something similar to be released around 2010 as well, I think.
I was told the Prius battery only lasted 5-6 years a few years ago when I worked for Toyota. Read carefully, I said if their battery life span is the same. I could be wrong, the Prius battery could last longer.
I love it. This will replace my old Honda. I'm totally going to buy one when GM is knocking $15 grand off of them like they always do eventually.
spring 2009 is the expected release date... with the CRZ following later that year or spring 2010. ^^^ that's the one i want.
Toyota uses NiMH, and the Volt, Lithium Ion, which have very different life cycle characteristics. Right around the corner from all this is the nano titanate battery tech from NanoSafe, which promise 12+ year life times and 10 minute charges as featured in the upcoming Lightning GT
That's my main complaint of GM/american products...That's why I never buy Gm stuff, although I would like an SUV if I can get it cheap...
