Swoly, dude, you don't have to go down with the ship. You're smarter than this. Get off the David Carr bandwagon before it goes over the edge of the cliff. Just reach out and grab my hand! There's still time, damnit!

BTW, someone needs to put Ric on suicide watch. (I keed! I keed!)

Wait, are we actually talking about the possibility that David Carr will be a part of the Texans next year????

Just from a financial point of view, that would mean that we'd have the most expensive backup (Carr at 8.7 M) and 3rd stringer (Sage at 1.6 M). No way.

Keeping Carr at this point would not only be a financial disaster, but it would also be incredibly illogical. Why would you give away very good draft picks and sign a guy to a new long term deal worth nearly 7 million a year if there is any chance that David Carr would return? You wouldnt do it. But since we did, rest assured that David Carr will never wear another Texans uniform.

    swoly --

if they DON'T trade or release Carr at this point....they are absolutely the stupidest NFL brain-trust ever. you don't give up what they gave up to get Schaub to have him be a second-stringer.

which is why it would be foolish for a team to trade for him when they know we will cut him.

pisses me off that Smith didn't do something earlier. it's one thing to wait to see what the market looks like, but it's just dumb to trade for a guy when you still have the other...totally devalues him

you gotta think there is no market for Carr at this point. they were probably trying to deal him earlier in the offseason and got nothing. So they decided to just make a move and cut him if nothing comes around.
That contract is probably a problem.

That is what they said on the NFL Network yesterday. The contract is definitely the problem. Carr is going to be in the NFL next season, but not for the money he is getting right now.

I wonder what Carr is thinking this morning... We dehumanize these guys sometimes, and the amount of money they make helps with that, I guess, but Carr's life, and the lives of his wife and children, are being uprooted from a place they probably thought they would be for awhile.

But that's the business, I guess...

In Ric's defense...he never said he thought Carr was the next Joe Montana.

I think Ric's main point in constantly "defending" Carr was that Carr himself was not the root of all the Texans problems, like some here seem to think. Because it always seemed to be Ric against the world, people got the impression that he loved Carr. I don't think that was ever the case.

But, yeah...I'm interested to hear his take on all of this. Especially the part about the Texans not really wanting to get rid of Carr and how all of the offseason talk was just a smoke screen to placate the fans.

No, WE'RE not. It's just Swoly. Frankly, I have no idea where he's coming from. Any person with half a brain can figure out that the WHOLE POINT OF BRING SCHAUB IN was to get rid of Carr. Duh!!

Still trying to figure out if his post was for real or not.

610 said the Dolphins have interest. And the Raiders may want him so they can draft Calvin Johnson instead of Brady Quinn. And the Bears, well, at least their fans want him.

We might be surprised how much interest there is in him. And we might not. We really don't know.

more irresponsible speculation: i bet he's relieved. if you've been through major change you know that the worst part is NOT KNOWING. the uncertainty. that's gone now for him. now it's time to go, "alright...better days are coming. i'll show them!" i'm guessing that's his response right now. which is healthy.

More irresponsible speculation ? Get a grip. This is a message board. I was just wondering what his family might being going through. But it's nice to know that your speculation is probably correct, because...you said it, and it must be right, right? It's good to know there is one way to react to a situation... Thanks.

Uh...I think MadMax was being sarcastic. Perhaps taking a good natured shot at Ric?

Well said. I wish David the best. From all accounts I've heard, he's a fantastic guy. I hope he gets 3,600 yds and 40 TDs somewhere, of course while laying a big turd against the Texans!

I think that was Ric's main point as well, and I agree with it--Carr was not the biggest problem and not to blame for all the losing. But he was still a problem, and the move needed to be made.
