Great, so did they not learn anything from last year? Talk about not knowing when to cut your losses. The only good thing about bringing back Carr will be the entertainment factor of the complete disaster that will occur
I'm sorry, I just don't believe this. For the first 5 years, yes, this is exactly what happened, but I just think it's going to be different this year. Too much has happened in the last year (draft backlash, Carr getting benched, semi-negative comments from front office). I don't think Kubiak has the confidence in him like some of you guys think he does. And I really do think that THIS YEAR, it's the coaches call...not the owners. I'm sticking to my guns on this. David Carr will not be handed the starting job this year like he has been for the last 5 years. Book it.
is it just easier to b****? is that it? i mean, i can understand the pessimism, but would you really categorize last year as anything close to a complete disaster? anyone? they literally improved in every single measureable category, save for total rushing. it's one thing to be underwhelmed and unimpressed; quite another to cry like the sky is falling already. i mean, they won 6 games last year with carr having a bad season, not to mention struggles with a new system and injuries that decimated a team that wasn't deep to begin with. given they've (presumably) upgraded the running game and seem to thus far be proficient talent evaluators, shouldn't we at least assume improvement is more likely than regression, and certainly higher on the probability scale than disaster? sometimes, you guys give off a slight menstrating woman-like vibe...
Maybe they learned what I did from watching the games... that until they establish a competent offensive line and running game, there are few QBs in the entire world who could have any success here. That's not to excuse Carr, to support him or to give an endorsement in any sense. It's simply to say there are issues this team needs to address to give whoever the QB is a reasonable chance to succeed.
Funny, I didn't see that with an improvement from a 2-14 to a 6-10 season with Carr at the helm. I wonder what season you're talking about.
what I meant by disaster is another losing season and more eroding of the fanbase and morale of the team.
So... let me guess... as long as we're under .500, you will call for Carr's head no matter if he puts the ball on the numbers on his receivers or not?
i disagree; people WANT to embrace this team - they'll be OK with noticeable progress. i think slowly but surely, people are starting to grasp that this team was left for dead by the previous regime and requires nearly a complete overhaul through no fault of the current regime. if they can win 7-8 games this year and be competitive in 5 or 6 of the losses, the bandwagon will start to fill up.
yep, I gave up on him a two seasons ago. He would have to improve drastically to make me reconsider. I place higher importance in the qb position than others and thats why I feel its so important to make a change. I like the improvements the new regime is making for the rest of the team. I just have to keep repeating that I think its past time to make a change at QB.
I heard today that David Carr has torn down his multimillion dollar house he was building at Sienna Plantation (in Missouri City). A friend of mine said that he drove by there and saw it.
Hopefully Carr will get moved to the Raiders for swaping 2nd round picks, a 3rd rounder and a future conditional pick(hopefully '08 a 2nd or 3rd rounder). That way the Texas get a clean start with a couple of draft picks to find a QB, maybe even trade for Matt Schabb or someone like that, they can take someone like Landry with their first rounder and the Raider are free to draft Calvin Johnson the best player in the draft, which inturn frees them up to trade Moss to Green Bay to get their 3rd rounder back this year. Then the Texans can think about maybe making a trade for an OT since Thomas is sure to be off the boards.
Different how or in what way? Do you actually expect Kubiak to start a career backup (Sage) or an extremely marginal QB (Van Pelt) over the guy he publicly committed to last year, paid the big bucks and passed on a bumper crop of young QBs for? You see, it's not a question of him being "handed" the starting job at all. No, Carr will get the starting job by default because he's the best of what's left on the roster. The only difference I forsee this year will be a quicker hook if he stinks it up (when he stinks it up?). I am afraid that one decision Kubiak & Co. made on Carr last year is having and will continue to have serious ramifications for years to come. Que the VYIG singers...
New post from Carr's brother (Hulk75) on the official Texans forum that the Raiders really want Carr so they can draft CJ. http://forums.houstontexans.com/showthread.php?t=37038 "A little bird tells me. Oakland wants Carr pretty bad so that they can draft Calvin Johnson. I also have heard that a deal is ready to go but the Texans are dragging their feet (shocker), cause all the deals with Plummer, Garcia and Ramsey did not go through, so they are not going to deal untill they know they have a QB. AND for all that want Carr gone.............The Raiders said that they will not wait untill the draft for Houston to make up their minds, they want it done before hand. I also heard that the Texans do not really want to trade him but feel they kind have to."
IF, I said IF that is really true... I have lost alot of faith in the Texans. First of all because Kubiak was on Bob Allen's show the other night and he said clearly that Sage was able to be a starter and would compete. And second they can get another lesser veteran to back Sage and get through this season just as well without Carr. They can draft a QB in the 3rd or 4th round this season for depth and go for a vet or draft one next season also. If they won't move Carr because they don't have a QB this season, it is the same reasoning they didn't draft Young because they thought they had one last season. Boy, they need to really think it over if they have the Raiders ready to give up, say a 3rd round pick this season. Man they should jump all over that if it is true. We can suffer with Sage for one season if we can get a 3rd round for Carr. If it is a 2nd round pick- WOW But if it is an offer for a 4th round pick or worse, then I can understand the waiting game.....
Teams know we want to get riddy of carr-y. Therefore, they are low balling us. I'm betting that given how high in the rounds the Raiders are drafting, they are dangling a fourth or possibly even a fifth and trying to pass it off as more valuable than it is. When all is said and done, if Carr does not take a pay cut. I think the Texans may be forced to take a fourth or keep him on the roster.
