Whoa there! They don't even have a go to scorer. How in the world would they be in the mix for the finals? That's a .500+ playoff team, but it wouldn't get past the 1st round.
I do not get why Bynum is valued so high. He gets hurt a lot and is limited offensively. Bynum is only decent right now because he is a Laker playing with 2 great players. Not the only way around.
Ya i'm calling Khloe Kardashian on this rumor also. What a bunch of horse's ****. But then again take a look at this man and tell me he doesn't get a woody when the Lakers win.
and Denver is hot for cap relief, hence, third party. I have a hard time seeing Melo for Bynum straight up. I'm expecting this to lead to LAL (already discontent with the roster) holding a fire sale for anyone interested in almost any member of their roster. Who cares who they lose if they end up with Gasol-Melo-Kobe? One scenario - "launder" Odom to Cleveland for a TE and a Miami draft pick to turn around and send to Denver for Al Harrington. I'm sure they'd ship Artest (or Walton, or Blake, or anyone else) to any willing (insane) party if it netted them cap relief to send Denver's way.
....if I'm the Nuggets I'm begging Prokorov to take my phone calls and give me the old deal of Favors + a first rounder. Bynum is good but the guy has never been healthy and frankly he has a rep for being a bit of a loafer which can't bode well for his future health prospects now that he is getting older. If the NJ deal is truly off the table though, you almost have to do the Bynum deal because it's way better than the pathetic NY deal. If by some stroke of luck Bynum manages to stay healthy, Denver will have an elite center(by default because so many centers are either injured or suck in the league) which is a decent start for a franchise trying to rebuild. I'm having a hard time believing Bynum can be the man and get doubled constantly, but if the Nuggets can score a pick in the deal too and draft a good shooting SG/SF who isn't crazy/dumb to pair with Bynum(sorry JR Smith), that's at least a decent team. ...as for the Lakers, I have hard time seeing Kobe/Melo coexisting too AND this makes the Lakers mere mortals without the Bynum/Gasol length advantage they used to have. All of a sudden they aren't as versatile a team as they used to be....but they would HAVE to pull the trigger on that trade because Bryant is clearly less effective as the primary option now and the chance to get a legit scorer is few and far between. Melo + Gasol + Kobe as a shooter can be a playoff powerhouse for more years than Kobe+Gasol+Bynum+LO even though that was a better team 8 months ago. Speaking of NY, I don't think they want to low ball the Nuggets - they just don't have anything to offer because they cleared their roster last summer to get Lebron and ended up getting the Amare/Felton poo poo platter instead. Their standing "offer" is really nothing - Denver doesn't need Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry.
...and if they win another 'ship this year, Carmelo would probably sign a contract to stay in Lakerland. LA doesn't need Bynum. If they can find someone to ship Bynum + filler (without Odom), they instantly become the favorites to come out of the West. Again. Ugh. Fisher Bryant Anthony Odom Gasol. Scary starting 5.
Agreed but I think the Lakers biggest mistake was not flipping him earlier in his career when his value was even higher and teams were offering All-Star caliber players for him. Now teams are legitimately scared of his injury history so it's lower than it was. The only reason Denver should consider this is they are desperate for value for Melo and if Bynum pans out, he is way better than anything the Knicks were offering.
They would have 4 go to scorers, whoever has the biggest mismatch between Chauncey, Lamar, Bynum, and Nene. They would be very dangerous..........if Bynum was healthy.
There is zero chance this trade is happening. All of the Lakers transactions (Signing Artest, trading for Gasol, trading away Vujacic, trading for Ariza) in recent years have come out of nowhere and known to public only after the deals were done. There hasn't been any transactions where they were rumors of the supposed deal and then it happened. If its out in the media now its more than likely its not happening and Den probably made this up to gain leverage over New York. And besides defense and rebounding wins championships, Carmelo doesn't address that, Bynum does.
....If this deal goes down, I don't see why the Nuggets don't throw Billups in on the deal - why pay him $13 mil for the next two years if your ready to give the keys to Lawson? Den gets Fisher, Barnes, Bynum, Walton Lakers get Melo, Billups, Shelden Williams Denver's lineup this year is: Lawson JR Smith Walton Nene Bynum Bench is Fisher, Barnes, Birdman, Afflalo, Harrington Lakers lineup this year is : Billups Kobe Melo Odom Gasol bench is Blake, Artest...the ghost of Joe Smith /Theo Ratliff/Shelden Williams as the bigs ...the lakers would get a powerhouse starting lineup with no bench depth and the Nuggets would have a reasonably deep team albeit with little star power(sound familiar Houston fans?). Denver has lots of guy they have to worry about resigning in the summer(Smith, Afflalo, Forbes, Barnes after this trade) but they would have a decent ability to pick and choose between their future 2/3 and still have a decent future for their bigs in Bynum, Anderson, Nene, and Harrington.
Who's the better big 3? Kobe, Melo, Pau versus Lebron, Wade, Bosh It's pretty close but Lakers have Odom which gives them the edge if this deal goes down.
Pretty fair one I remember that Bynum for Bosh fake trash trade, when Bynum had BYC and there were no teams with enough cap space to balance that trade (so it was impossible at the beginning because of NBA rules) but there was still a lot of information about it
They're not trading Fish. He has no trade value to other teams and he is Kobe's sentimental favorite. And he does knock down big shots. The players that the Lakers are willing to give up are everybody outside of Kobe, Pau, Fisher............and possibly Lamar. But I'm wondering if they would move Lamar for Melo. I think they would be willing to move Lamar for Melo and continue on with Kobe, Gasol, Melo until Kobe retires and by that time, they can come up with another third to Gasol and Melo. Hello Dwight.
