Bosh, Wade, and LeBron end up on one team :somewhat mad:

Melo ends up in Jersey. :meh:

From what I've read it doesn't look like Melo signed an extension and Denver hopes he will re-sign with them after the season is over. Did NJ really just give up everything they had for a 1 year rental?

Not much for Utah but at least it gets Melo out of their division.

They don't have the MLE, next year. They have only 30 something million in salary next year. They can also do a trade without matching salaries, since they are under the cap. If CP3 and Melo have an agreement, you can see him refusing to sign an extension next year also. The Hornets would be in the same situation as the Nuggets.

New Jersey and Melo must have had a commitment from Chris Paul to join them at some point. Otherwise they haven't really improved. As of now they're a low-seeded playoff team, and Melo wouldn't leave Denver to join a low-seeded playoff team. The owner's billions must be an attractive incentive to free agents like Paul.

So if Melo doesn't sign an extension, he is an UFA (like YAO). The Rockets have $33 million owed to Martin, Scola, Lowry, Miller, and Patterson and $39,923,031 if you include the team options on Hill, Lee, Taylor, and Budinger.

I think the Rockets can sign 1 max free agent next summer, before re-signing Yao and Brooks.

    Yao / Miller
    Scola / Hill / Patterson
    Carmelo / Budinger
    Martin / Lee / Taylor
    Brooks / Lowry

There is still a chance. If he can somehow retain Battier and Hayes, Morey is king.

    For at least one season.

No, but he doesn't think he will ever go to the Finals with Lakers in the West, too. He gets to move to NYC with his honey, though.

Their value increased IMO, not only did they lose out on another elite talent but that talent may keep them from making the playoffs. The last two guys they could acquire that would make any kind of difference is Paul and somewhat Parker but that won't be till next offseason. The 2011 swap is truly golden right now and if Paul decides to join Melo in NJ and Parker goes elsewhere...Knicks are in TROUBLE.

If he doesn't sign an extension, he WILL sign with the Knicks outright next year. Any chance of Melo coming via FA is negligible.

It's hard to believe that this cat wants to go to a team that won 12 games last season. I don't care how much money the Russian has... those bills don't dance on the court.

But Melo's husband wants her in the NY market so that he can further his entertainment career.

Those bills pay for the talent that dances on that court. It also pays for the talent to come home to bed for wild drunken nights also.

If he doesn't sign an extension there is no trade.
I still have my doubts. Why not Denver and yes New Jersey?
