Trade what? Outlaw? Murphy? From what I'm understanding, they're throwing in the GS pick and this is a playoff team as it is now, so they can't throw in picks.

I'd imagine if that was their goal, they would then be seeking NJ to up the ante again as well, as that seems the game here.

I wondering how Utah could stomach such a deal because they would have to eat some undesirable salaries to make the proposed 4 team deal work.

The Nuggets are over the cap so if they bring in about 22 million in salaries (AK47 and Favors) they also have to un-loade about 4 million extra salary on top of Melo's 17 million.

New Jersey is also taking back about 4 million more than they are giving up in the proposed deal so they will have to un-load an extra contract.

Utah is the only team with available room in the proposed deal to take back additional contracts. The two likely candidates to be added to the deal IMO (due to their contracts) would be Chris Anderson from the Nuggets and Kris Humphries from the Nets. Both of those players would have to go to the Jazz.

So if you are Utah do you really want to trade AK47 for Boris Diaw, Chris Anderson and Kris Humphries? Especially when that trade does little to nothing to help your team on the court and actually hurts your teams salary cap.

As unrealistic as it sounds I would think they would need an additional team with cap space or a sizable trade exception to eat Anderson and Humphries contracts in order to make this deal appealing to Utah.

BTW, I think a front court of

    Center - Lopez
    P Forward - Murphy
    S Forward - Melo

would be a very good front court. I believe that those three could and would play to each others strengths. Not much in the back court and not much depth though.

Yeah, it's not a bad front line. Anthony, of course, covers a lot of sins. ;)

Yeah I've been a Melo fan after I watched him win a NCAA championship. I just thought he was clutch. Having said that I go back and forth as to how bad I really want Melo considering what we would have to give up.

I think the real benefit of having a Carmelo Anthony on your team shows up in the last 5 minutes of the game when you need a dominate scorer. There are a lot of players in the NBA that can average 20 pts a game but not many who can truly dominate the game when teams turn on the defensive clamps in the last 5 minutes of the game. Melo is one of those guys. Not sure if the Rockets have a guy who can do that with any consistency.

Nene, Jr Smith, and Kenyon Martin have not signed extensions, also.

In a year or 2, the Nuggets starting lineup will have Ty Lawson,Renaldo Balkman, Al Harrington, and Chris Andersen.

In a year or 2, the Nets would be Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, Brook Lopez, and Terrance Williams.

His supporting cast in NJ would be better than the Nuggets.

He's not too much anymore, but Tony Parker is a FA this summer.

The Knicks want Carmelo and yet they aren't willing to offer more than scraps. I know they don't have much to offer but they could offer more but they don't. Their offers seem unrealistically low. Why? Either they don't want him (don't think that is the case) or they know something. What is to keep Amare from talking to Carmelo. And then Amare slipping Donnie some inside info like he will only sign with the Bulls or the Knicks. Amare gains by getting another gun on the team which he's going to need. Unfortunately, if that is going on, Carmelo loses as the Knicks are willing to wait and just sign him next year - for less money - and keep their assets.

what i like about this trade is that the nets and bobcats get better... maybe even better than the knicks. as long as the knicks fall out of the playoffs we're good! and right now i'm not sure they are in the top 8:

    1. heat
    2. magic
    3. celtics
    4. bulls
    5. hawks
    6. bucks
    7. nets
    8. bobcats/knicks?

But does that mean your Nets tickets are going up in price now? :)

Murphy expires, so he won't be in a trade next year.

i still havent seen any confirmation that Melo has ok'd the deal....until that happens, Melo still has a chance to win a title ;)

Looks like the powers that be are beginning to convince Melo that NJ (Brooklyn in 2 yrs) is the closest he is gonna get to NYC

Are you sure that you're including all of the players in the proposed deal? Specifically, did you include Augustine (to NJ), Jarvis Hayes (to Charlotte) and Quinton Ross (to Utah)?

I believe that Hayes is a FA so he'd have to be signed and traded. If he was signed and traded for around $2M (which is around what he made last season) then by my calculations the deal works with only one minor tweek. Denver would need to send an additional $550K or so in salary to NJ.

Teams can acquire up to 125% + $100k of outgoing team salaries. It allows New Jersey to take on an additional $4-4.5 million in salary, if they are are taking Carmelo.

Nope. Everyone else is butt-hurt, nobody is refusing to admit it. Such is the case when we got Bosh.

    "OMGBOSHCOMETOHOUSTONWELOVEYOU"
"Screw him, we don't need Bosh!"

    "OMGCARMELOCOMETOHOUSTONWELOVEYOU"
"Screw him, we don't need Melo!"

And so on and so on...

    :p
