I think I would rather have Rajon Rondo. It is obvious that this team is lacking a true leader. Rondo is the kind of guy that will push Harden and Howard to compete night in and night out and he puts up great numbers as well. Yeah his shooting isn't the best but let's be honest neither is Beverley's. In fact I would say that Rondo is an upgrade over any of the PG on our roster currently. I definitely would not give up Parsons for him but if we wait until the draft and trade them Lin, Asik, and our first round pick I think they might bite. This sounds really bad but what Charles Barkley said last night on TNT about if we got Rondo we would be an automatic contender for the next however many years is true IMHO. It is absolutely true.
Agreed, if people think that many teams will line up for Carmelo Anthony that are contenders they are wrong. Also keep in mind Asik and Lin are players that fill a need for the Knicks and are expiring contracts. I do think the Knicks will ask for more size and request T Jones. Without Carmelo the Knicks are pretty much in rebuilding, but think of this from more of a Houston Rockets style. They do not necessarily want to tank but instead have good role players and contract situations (Ex. Amare) and be big players in the 2015 free agent class. That's why they are going after Phil Jackson not for C. Anthony, but to attract players at the end of next season.
While you are correct about the need for Roondo the question here is do you give Asik Parsons and 2 first round picks for Rondo or Lin, Asik and likely TJones for Carmelo. If that gets you Melo you have to take it. You keep Parsons for at least half a season try to negotiate a contract. While you do not have as much trading leverage, if the offers are too bad you have your 3rd star anyway, hold on to Parsons make a championship run and deal with the situation in the offseason. It logical to thiink of a dynasty when building a championship team, but keep in mind to start a dynasty you need to win the first championship!!!
If we lose again the playoffs then Morey needs to get Melo. We need that Big 3. Asik, Lin, Parsons and whoever. I want that Big 3.
is it possible to sign Melo then pay Parsons, then trade Parsons for Rondo? I don't want that to happen, I'm pretty much anti-Rondo, I just want to know if its possible to sign a player to a new contract then trade that player for a (close to) matching salary while already over the cap.
I'm still pulling for 7footer STRECH 4, PROVEN big 3 player BOSH. I feel like that guy would work wonders on this team. Bev harden parsons Bosh Howard
The stretch 4 would be Carmelo Anthony he is not coming here as a small forward but rather a power forward. That's why Parsons would still at least be coveted by Houston if not signed.
I don't know why no one seems to understand that the Rockets can use Parsons to essentially circumvent the salary cap limitations. Parsons is worth more to the Rockets because they can go OVER the cap to resign him. The whole idea is to be able to have guys like Parsons and still be able to get someone like Anthony.
There is no "coveting" to it. If the Rockets trade for Carmello Anthony, there is a 100% chance they resign Parsons.
If the Rockets got Melo at a good price, that'd be nice. But it's not like they are currently the headed-nowhere run of the mill team they were previously. And the deadline is long past. I prefer to not think about or care about this for the moment. They need to just focus on maximizing what they do have. At their best, they should be WCF material if not better.
