the knicks just aren't very talented. decent players but no other true superstar other than melo.

they put their eggs in the basket hoping for a big 3 of melo/amare/chandler.

too bad amare is done and will never be the player he used to be. since then they have been trying to plug in a bunch of pieces that don't fit.

    Melo is a winner.

Won this country Olympic gold, won an NCAA title.

Just been on terribly managed teams.

Look at that Knicks team last season. Take Melo off that team, I doubt they win 30 let alone 50+

He had all the help an elite, tier-1 superstar should need when he was in Denver. He made it past the first round once.

Bottom line, Melo's not an elite, tier-1 superstar.

That said, he's a very good player. I certainly won't argue that. Back when our best player was either Kyle Lowry or Kevin Martin, I was a strong advocate for trading for him.

....And they got to the Western Conference Finals where they put up a strong fight but came up short against a far superior team talent-wise.

I wouldn't call those Denver teams stacked when compared to the top of the West at the time (LAL, San An, Dallas, Phoenix)

If LeBron can't lead Cleveland to a title, I don't get why you'd expect Melo to be able to lead a hobbled Amar'e and Chandler to a title.

I'm not going to sit here and say carmelo is great and all, but look at the reality of the situation he's in.

He has absolutely nobody on that team worth a damn. JR Smith? A broken down Tyson Chandler? Iman Shumpert?

    The knicks are plain terrible.

Drexler went to the NBA Finals 3 times. Melo hasn't come close.

The Lakers were ready to lose and Melo wilted after game 1, otherwise the Nuggets would have beaten them. It was very disappointing.

I know you can't blame one player for losing a series, but you almost can on this one.

    Who's fault is that?

He could've gone to NY during his FA. Instead he forced his way early via a trade and stripped of all their assets.

    Danilo Gallinari
    Wilson Chandler
    Raymond Felton
    Timofey Mozgov
    Knicks’ first-round pick in 2014
    Two second-round picks.
Denver has the right to swap picks with the Knicks in 2016.

Knicks are tanking for Denver this year. If Knicks are in the lottery and win the Wiggins sweepsstake, Wiggins goes straight to Denver. The pick in NOT protected.

IIRC, Knicks weren't even interested at the beginning. D'Antoni didn't want Melo and neither did Walsh. It was Nets who were in hot pursue of Carmelo, but he was insistent that he will not sign extension with any other team. He used SAS as go between, and once Dolan was involved, the rest was history.

The Knicks roster is exactly what Carmelo wanted. It's his team; JR Smith came to NY because of Melo and he vouched for Woodson as HC after he quit on MDA. Woodson even had to change his agent to CAA BEFORE he was hired. You can believe Carmelo and CAA has a lot of power as to who's staying and who's gone.

holy sjit, this was a TERRIBLE trade. Galo alone is worth more than melo, but they got an unprotected 1st round pick in the greatest draft class in a decade also. Unreal.

Melo is an elite scorer but he is not someone you can build around. He needs others to help him. He can't lead a team. Put him next to someone who can control Melo and work with him and he will be used properly. (LBJ, CP3). In the Olympics Melo played off the ball incredibly well. This shows he can play in a role where he does not have to dominate the ball, but he has to have teammates that are at his level or better in order for him to fall into that role. He does not have that leadership quality that will take him and his team to the next level. That's the difference between championship players and elite players.

Melo is NOT a superstar. Paul George showed him what a superstar was last night. Scoring, make plays for others, play defense...

Scoring tons of points doesn't make you a superstar, which is all that Melo does, and he does that inefficiently mind you.

He's a very good player but he's not a guy that can get you to the finals to it if he's your #1. He's still the better version of Glenn Robinson.
