this is a "wtf" typical morey move. since we don't know the whole picture, i guess we'll just have to wait.
That's not what this thread is about. Besides, the 3rd scenario addresses the possibility that they won't be enough. Either way, Delfino at $2M or under for one year can be nothing but a positive.
Yet everyone will make their best attempt and fail. You guys need to just sit back and enjoy the ride this offseason. This has been one of the most thrilling we've had in quite a while.
I disagree. This is a good move if consummated. Delfino instantly becomes an asset. He'd be on a cheap deal and provide depth at a position we might need depth at, and his unguaranteed second year turns him into a Dalembert-like commodity (much cheaper though) at the trade deadline and next summer. Nothing but positives to this situation.
clearly, it was a reply to the first two. just replying to a post within the thread, not sure what's wrong with it.
In the second scenario, why not Patterson instead of Jones? Martin, Parsons, T.Jones, picks for Howard, Richardson PG: Lin/Douglas SG: Richardson/Lamb SF: Delfino/White PF: D-Mo/T.Jones C: Howard/Asik Both lineups with length, offense and defense (perimeter and post).
In looking at the depth charts people post, Is the consensus really that White can play SF. I just don't see it.
If we have to trade one of Lamb, Parsons or DMo...I'd have to say Parsons. In which case, the delfino signing makes some sense. It's probably a low-ball offer anyway.
Both White and Jones are hybrids, they can play either forward spot. So depending on the matchup, yes, White can play SF. He will be handling the ball a ton so it is not the traditional SF/wing position, more point forward. In the lineups posted the Jones can step outside with Douglas and Lamb when White initiates the offense.
The fact that it's a 1 year deal isn't the point to my question. We have 24 players on the roster last I counted. Can't we find one of them to play backup SF or SG, developing one of our own wing players, before signing more cap space, one year or otherwise, to a 32 year old wing? Before news of this offer, we were getting rid of veteran players, not signing them. I'm not sure how this would help the team's direction, UNLESS there is a strong opinion from the front office that something much bigger is on its way, requiring our team to need more veteran players than we currently have.
Morey said in a radio interview that D-Mo was not ready to start in the nba.. so if D-mo isn't ready per our GM, then i can promise you he doesn't think White or Morris is ready either..
Depending on what the money is, this would be a pretty solid signing in my opinion. If I recall correctly, he struggled with a concussion but Delfino has been a much improved 3 point shooter, is a great rebounding wing, and plays very good defense. He'll be 30 when the season starts. Don't know why so many people think this is a terrible idea (unless we're offering huge money which we obviously aren't)
