Wanted deflino back when Yao was still here, but it's too late now. Sounds like an opportunity to pick up a veteran on a team full of young guys.
If we get the team option on him, then we can Dalembert him to another team and jump a couple spots in next year's draft. Contract structure sounds similar.
That's what he is. Bucks have way too many 3-point shooters on the roster. With Dunleavy and Ilyasova, they dont really really need him. Despite his low % in spot up and few isolations, he still was an effient player last season bc most were from 3P. Majority of his shots were spot up and his PPP (point per possession) efficiency was very decent at 1.1. Often times, shooting % can be deceptive. Efficiency for PPP is what really matters. With all the rookies in our roster and if he is cheap, I consider this a good pick up.
Didnt Dwight Howard said "Warning Houston if traded he will sign with Dallas Mavs if traded" so why does everybody want Dwight he clearly doesnt want to be here Andrew Bynum or stick with the core is the way I see it
Where are people getting that Delfino is 32 years old? Basketball-reference.com has him at 29 years old, though close to 30. I think it'd be a solid pickup. I'm surprised he's lasted this long. Good shooter, tough defender.
which is why he won't sign a 1 year cheap deal with team option. He's not at that point in his career yet and he'll have Europe as a viable option.
After chewing this over a bit, I think the signing of veteran swingman Delfino to a 'Dalembert-structured-contract' makes quite a bit of sense and it has a lot to do with Kevin Martin. First of all, we have the Dwight Scenario. We have seen reports that say, 'Houston has put multiple trade scenarios on the table for Dwight' and i believe a Delfino signing provides the very flexibility to do just that. I view Delfino more of a SF, but given his size and skill set, he can definitely slide into the SG position. As we stand today, our roster is: PG:Lin/Douglas SG:Martin/Lamb SF: Parsons/White PF: Patterson/Morris C: Asik/D-Mo Lets look at potential dwight packages- Understanding that the Magic are losing leverage every day, its hard to imagine Houston taking back the worst contract in Turkoglu. Therefore, to fill an immediate need, Richardson makes a lot of sense and his contract is really not that 'awful'. Morevoer, the expiring contract of Martin will undoubtedly be included in any Houston-Orlando deal. These are not complete trade packages, instead they focus on the impact a dwight trade would have on our SG/SF position; ie, i understand Big Baby could very well come back.Ok, So: Martin, morris, Lamb, picks for Howard and richardson. in this scenario you are 2 SGs short, not 1. Delfino plugs that hole: Spoiler PG: Lin/Douglas SG: Richardson/Delfino SF: Parsons/White PF: Patterson/D-Mo/T.Jones C: Howard/Asik Martin, Parsons, T.Jones, picks for Howard, Richardson Spoiler PG: Lin/Douglas SG: Richardson/Lamb SF: Delfino/White PF: Patterson/D-Mo/T.Jones C: Howard/Asik I can think of a few additional scenarios, but i think the above two Martin/Lamb and Martin/Parsons best show that Delfino would fill a needed veteran presence on a now playoff team and help build the case for Dwight to stay. The second scenario, Martin is not traded, and instead flipped at the deadline for future picks and/or a prospect (lets play if safe and assume that prospect isa 6-9 PF): Regardless of how much we all love Lamb, its impossible to tell if he will be prepared to contribute starter minutes and handle himself on the defensive end against veteran SGs. With the Delfino signing and a martin trade going out at the deadline we are left with: Spoiler PG:Lin/Douglas SG:Lamb/Delfino SF: Parsons/White PF: Patterson/Morris C: Asik/D-Mo This scenario prevents Parsons from painfully trying to play out of position and does not eat into any rookie development. 3rd Scenario: No Dwight trade, Martin not traded. Royce white and/or lamb get some much needed time in d-league to adjust his game to the NBA level and Delfino plays as our 6th man. Martin will definitely walk to free agency and we are left with a team option on Delfino for the following season. All three scenarios seem to provide a lot flexibility for Morey, while not impeding the development of our youth. Thoughts?
1 year deal for a wing player when it looks like we could trade our only 2 SGs to Orlando? Don't see why anyone would have a problem with this. Believe it or not, we need a few seasoned vets on this team. We don't want to have our young players go through their first/second years without an few examples of what it means to be an NBA player.
