Still don't like that Correa isn't in an Astros uniform. But Houston got another championship, and possibly more.

Gotta give props to Correa for not going to LA or NY.

These athletes need to stop listen to their Agents. The agents like the 10+ years contracts because it helps them get other players. The problem for Carlos is the AAV is only $26.9 million. He could have probabl
Sort of like you being wrong on JJ Watt (always going to bring that one up.).

There is ALWAYS one idiot team. When that back goes out, have fun Giants.

Odd that you didn't think there was ALWAYS one idiot team when you were certain no one would give him a 10 year deal.

There's always one idiot fan (hint: it's you!).

Yeah, he only locked up one of the largest contracts in history. Terrible decision for a guy who's back you think is going to go out.

Just from a couple of pages early in this thread:

There are a lot more of these. And many people trying to justify the Astros 5 or 6 year dumb offer, saying he's never going to make the playoffs again in his career, and all sorts of other fun things.

Glad it worked out for Team CJCorrea.

Astros offer wasn’t dumb but he wasn’t taking it and the market wasn’t insane like it is now. I don’t recall but I think we were the highest bidder back when we offered it. It worked out well for him.

I’m not as bitter as I was back when I posted. I wish all the best for Correa and hope he regularly drops bombs on the Dodgers.

Also by dumb offer are you also meaning the Giants offer was good because it got the deal done?

It's so weird seeing so many still pining for Carlos Correa given that the Astros currently have a better, younger, cheaper guy at the same spot.

It's a good thing the Astros didn't waste money on him.

I mean, I'm happy for him, but let's not pretend that he's not ripping off the Giants.

No, by dumb I mean that any offer that paid a premier player only for his prime years at market rate was never going to be accepted. Not by Correa or anyone else. It was an offer designed to be rejected. You can go short term, high AAV (as Minnesota did) so he's a free agent again in his prime. Or long-term lower AAV (as San Fran did and the Yankees with Judge and basically all the other long-term deals) - that covers their post-prime years. But what you absolutely can't do is decent-AAV but only cover their prime years so the player is screwed in his mid-30s as a free agent. The Astros designed their offer specifically to be one combo no elite free agent would ever accept.

The market last year was the same basic price range as this year - Correa just waited too long and the lockout ended up eating up most of the free agency period and left him little time between end-of-lockout and spring training.

Detroit offered $300MM. But Correa waited for something better and missed out (and likely didn't want to be in Detroit). Rangers gave a worse player in Seagar $325MM/10 years.

Correa has played virtually 7+ seasons and only played a full season in about half. And yet he still got a 13 year contract? How in the world can a team like the Giants figure he'll be one of the lucky position players to stay healthy enough to play until 40? And this for a guy whose numbers don't really match up to a HOF career yet.

Maybe, maybe not. But that wasn't your claim. Your claim and what makes you stupid - was:

    Wrong #1.

    Wrong #2.

And then you tried to pretend you weren't wrong with this even stupider comment:

Where you try to pretend you knew there was a team that would pay him. Which also would make you a liar in your earlier comments, but really just re-confirms your stupidity.

He’s not better at all. Correa was 40% better offensively than average MLB player. Peña was all of 1% better. Correa had 1.5 more war or something like that than Peña. Peña is much more cost effective but he’s not better man. That’s nonsense talk.

Because they aren’t paying him to be good into his 49’s you mouth breathing dolt. They are paying him to be awesome for a couple years in his 20’s, real good in his early 30’s, playable in his mid 30’s and **** right off in his late 40’s. They just structured the contract to last until he’s 41 so they could gain the advantage of time value of money, so they could extend out his salary so his cap number is lower and they can make more moves in the present, and so, if lightning strikes and he is still good at 39 or 40 so they can get the benefit of that. Do you really not understand any of those 3 concepts or are you intentionally trying to be stupid to win a prize from the board or something?

I feel bad for carlos , he better be getting the team to pay for housing . By year 5 of the contract he will effectively be making 2-3 million dollars in San Fransisco .

Also, correa absolutely is on a HOF trajectory. He’s got big post season stats, he’s got 40 WAR thru his age 27 season, he’s won a platinum globe, is a multi time all star at a very stacked position and now just signed like the 4th richest contract in baseball history. The definition makers in the game view him to be on a HOF trajectory and his numbers match up with HOF people from before. He might not make it but if he has a great end to his 20’s and a decent run up to about 45 he absolutely will be in the HOF.

Pena is a stud ball player my friend. We don’t win the chip without him. Correa is set for 1000 lifetimes. Everyone won something.
