Correa clearly wants more than $325...someone go ahead and offer him $335 for 10yrs so the guy can get it over with.

The only team dumb enough to give Correa a 10 year contract was the Padres.... and they just signed a 30 year old to an 11 year contract.

Correa is getting his bag, too many contenders with money still need a shortstop. Swanson is his only competition left:
    • Braves
    • Yankees
    • Orioles
    • Red Sox
    • Cardinals
    • Cubs
    • Giants
    • Dodgers

It's amusing how many people around here trying to downplay Correa. Some people will still swear he should have taken our offer because he wasn't getting a better one.

He's gonna make literally double what we offered him, could be closer to 400 than 300 when combined with what he made last season. Taking the one year deal and letting it play out for another year was a brilliant choice by him and his agent.

    • ̶B̶r̶a̶v̶e̶s̶ - They would bring Swanson back before spending Correa money
    • ̶Y̶a̶n̶k̶e̶e̶s̶ - 2017 not a good omen
    • Orioles
    • ̶R̶e̶d̶ ̶S̶o̶x̶ - They would have brought back Bogaets if they had $300 mil to spend
    • ̶C̶a̶r̶d̶i̶n̶a̶l̶s̶ - They are about done this off season with big time spending
    • Cubs
    • Giants
    • ̶D̶o̶d̶g̶e̶r̶s̶ - See Yankees and add a HELL NO to that
Not much left to pick at now for Correa. Giants are the best bet and I don't see 10 yeas being offered.

I think he either gets 10/335 or 11/350. I still can’t believe these 30 year old SS FAs are getting 10+ year deals.

First- I think he absolutely will get the 10+ 300+ contract this off-season.
Second- if he doesn’t he’s shown he could take a 1 year 35m deal
Third- we have 41 to spend up to the tax line. make it happen Crane (that would make Yordan a 70 or 80% of the time LF. If that happened you get Cc as DH and Yordan DH’s when Correa plays anywhere in the IF. Or, better yet make Correa the 2B and have Altuve DH.
I know it won’t happen, but if he ends up on another 1 year deal both sides could be fine.

Braves, Yankees, Orioles, and Dodgers all have good young players they might turn to at SS, so Correa’s market isn’t as deep as it might seem. I think Correa’s real market is between the Cubs and Giants with the Red Sox also in the mix. All that said, I agree that he will likely get his $300M+.

Braves- I agree to an extent but they will have a conversation and at least add to the price if Dansby signs elsewhere.

Yankees - And why didn't they have an issue with Marwin who is clearly a less impactful player who won't help them as much?

Red Sox - They are a traditional power with an expectant fan base. With plenty of revenue. If they don't think they can extend Devers then they need to make a splash signing.

    Dodgers I will give you.

They're not going to spend up to the tax line... I think that should be fairly clear based on their offers thus far (they may have matched a $40 million JV deal, and that's about it).

Let Altuve DH full time. Spot 2nd base. Get Correa to SS and Pena to 2nd.

    It a fantasy.

All decisions run through Maldy now. I'm not sure if he'd approve it or not. I suppose we'll see....

Sign Correa to 10/335. Trade Pena to the Pirates for Reynolds and Bednar. Sign Brantley for 2/30.

    Lineup:
    Altuve 2B
    Bregman 3B
    Alvarez LF
    Abreu 1B
    Tucker RF
    Correa SS
    Reynolds CF
    Brantley DH
    Maldonado C

Maybe, maybe not. At some point foolish owners have to come to their senses.

Either all these owners are equally dumb, or you’ve misread the market. The going rate for a player is whatever teams are willing to pay. They’re not going to stop spending right before CC gets his.

You are not very smart, are you? Yeah....$300 million on an injury-prone SS when his replacement is under team control for another 5 years....LOL. And you want to Trade that replacement. Thank god you are nowhere near the GM position for the Astros.

Take a deep breath and relax, man. You're on an internet forum. Nobody is in danger of being the Astros GM here.

Abreu to DH, Carlos to First. With no shift, need to cover ground on that side in a way that gives you an advantage over other teams. Correa can also backup SS and Second while playing a few games in Left where he'll be gunning down runners on the basepaths.

I'm not sure how serious some of you are, but let's play. Correa at CATCHER. Solves all of our problems.

Good news! We have one of those on the way. He should end this season with a cup of coffee in Sugar Land.
