This makes no sense. Why would the Astros not match this? Weren't they wanting no more than a 5-year commitment on Correa's new deal? And yes, of course he can opt out after this season, but at least the Astros get another year out of him.

You know, it's been 12 hours later and I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been more tweets from teammates. I know they're busy but still....hmmmm.

No way of knowing, but I think Correa is an Astro today if Luhnow was still here. Crane’s role seems to have changed since the scandal.

He said on the radio this week he has a mutual friend with Correa who is in his inner circle. So he's probably comfortable sharing/reporting this as fact.

Carlos can do a lot of fishing in Minnesota. Good luck.

I’m sure players are disappointed but understand at the same time. I think they prepared themselves for this moment since last year. I’m sure we will see guys react soon. They’re professionals and realize they have work to put in.

For me, as this is setting in, I’m good with it. It’s tough because it will be tough to replace CC’s leadership and play on the field.

He was obviously drafted here and helped bring us the Astros first WS win. In that regard, it’s hard to see someone like this go. Still, I didn’t want to see a 10 year deal. Only time will tell if not giving CC that deal was smart or not.

Let’s see how smart the org is and good/great the team is or can be moving forward. Hoping Tucker and Alvarez get even better so the Astros can keep this train rolling.

Did the Twins just lose a 1st rd draft pick just to have Correa play 1 year there?

No. That was removed in the new CBA.

I've known John for a long time. He isn't a person that just puts stuff out there.

Was it? Isn't that dependent on creation of International draft?

Carlos wants to be a FA more than he wants to be an Astro. HOU surely had a very respectable, long-term deal on the table. We wanted to keep him, just more than the first year. This deal is all about the player opt out after 1. I’m surprised Crane wouldn’t do that if it were the determining factor (all other things considered, if that’s the case). Carlos has more interest in testing the market next year than he does in suiting up with the Stros, unfortunate as it is to realize. He made his decision, but the good news is that the Astros are still set up to succeed even in his wake. Sadly a record book player leaves us, he could’ve maybe even mustered up to a Jeff Bagwell one day o_O

Like Springer, I obviously wish them nothing but the best….until he runs into the Houston Astros again

The Astros knew Carlos wasn't in it for the long haul and going through this fiasco for another year didn't seem to be what they wanted to play out. The font office could've easily matched a 3 year deal with opt outs but Correa wanted to leave and that's that. I've been ready for this day since he announced last August so... Time to move on

And another thing...if it wasn't for Stevie Cohen giving Lindor stupid money and blowing up the short stop market we wouldn't be having this conversation and Correa would have been happy getting $20 mil a year like it should have been.

Correa was the soul of the Astros. They should have re-signed Springer. Morton should have also been a re-sign. As for Springer, he's going to be a 40hr, 100 rbi guy this year if healthy. I hope they don't mess up with Brantley or Yuli.

The fact that Houston was able to lose Springer and go right back to the World Series was evidence against signing Correa, not for it. Houston has proven they have the farm depth and organizational smarts to weather losing good players. Correa will be no different.

Two people with knowledge of Correa’s situation said the Astros were not close to reuniting with their shortstop. The contents of owner Jim Crane’s supposed next offer — or whether it was even made — remain a mystery. The Athletic reported on Tuesday one was imminent. Neither the owner nor general manager James Click showed himself on Saturday at the team’s spring training facility.

FanGraphs gives the Twins a 35 percent chance to make an expanded, 12-team postseason. The website projects them to finish 81-81.

The "soul" of the team was willing to abandon his teammates to go play on a scrub team for just a little bit more money.....that's a pretty terrible "soul"
