So, you think that he will start shooting girl friends? Apple and oranges. Each situation must be addressed individually. Plus, you need to read more about the coaching staff at FIU. Those guys were no "angels." Reminds me of the Portland Trailblazers.

But we all know what happened to Rasheed once he left the team! Bling, bling!

Now that I've heard about the punch out, I no longer have any interest in Carlos Arroyo.

Maybe it was an isolated incident, and maybe it wasn't.

I want to change my vote!

    5. Derek Fisher (13.1 p/40, 3.4 r/40, 4.2 a/40) -- Role players on championship teams invariably are overrated and end up with absurd contracts (think B.J. Armstrong, Devean George, or Luc Longley). Fisher is primed to be this year's example. He opted out of a deal that would have paid him $3 million and presumably will make more, even though point guards who are as good or better (Carlos Arroyo, Damon Jones, Bob Sura) are widely available for much less.

At least it wasn't an unintended pun, or worse a Freudian slip!

I don't think there is a better synopsis of this guy out there. We already have Fisher-lite riding the pine. (Lue) You have to ask yourself what this guy is going to bring differently to the position compared w/ what we already have which is nothing. Fisher wherever he goes is going to demand the full mle and quite frankly I would hang myself if we offered it to him.

First of all this talk of being a defensive stopper is ridiculous. I recall numerous times, during the post-season, Kobe Bryant was given the assignment of guarding points that continued to blow by The Mitten (Payton) and Fisher. Yes, Fisher will get an offensive foul go his way (Laker gold will do that for you once in a while) but overall his game is pretty limited.

And I know some will venture to argue he knows how to get the ball to the big man. Really? One of the biggest critiques most folks had of the Fakers last season was no one got the ball to Shaq! Do you really think the finals would had went the way they did if they would had just dumped the ball down to Shaq? I don't recall Fisher leading the charge to get Shaq the ball.

Championship experience? We already have a similar backup guard with title experience... Tyron Lue. :D

Fisher's stats were also ugly last year. They sunk to 35% from the field and 29% from the outside. Yeah starting point guard material.

This is how the Rocks starting guard wish list should read:

    1. Brent Barry
    2. Anyone But Fisher
    3. Anyone But Fisher
    4. Anyone But Fisher
    5. Anyone But Fisher

    Thats all I ask for.

I agree 100%. I'd rather use money on a better 4/5 than we would be targeting and let Lue start at PG than sign Fisher and a lesser 4/5.

All we need is decent dribbler, decent passer, excellent set shot, and decent defense. I'll be very excited if Barry accepts the deal, giving us one of the biggest backcourts in the league and a sharp shooter for Yao to kick it out to (along with JJ).

I agree. We're not going to sign Steve Nash or Jason Kidd w/ the mle but we need something a cut above mediocrity. Which is clearly what Derek Fisher isn't. But for whats on the market Barry has the commodities this team would more than benefit from. With his proven 3-point range and brilliant passing ability I don't see how it would be a gamble to at least expect his smart ball play to last through his contract. After all we're looking to get smarter at the point and I think Barry would be ideal.

Not a terrific defender and I'm not sure I buy that he will get significantly better but I think thats where our team defense will really shine.

Exactly. We and Barry can control what happens to him--that is why I picked him even though I likethe long term potential for Arroyo better. But the Jazz control the Arroyo situation and could keep us out of the FA market for 14 days.

In an ideal world where we could get a market based contract for Arroyo and not have it matched he would be my 1st choice. But that isn't the situation, thus we should target Barry.

Only cavout is if the Jazz would work with us. E.g., use the TE plus a #1 to land Arroyo. Not likely the Jazz will look to help us, but we did trade with them last year.
