when they say it was offered, doesn't landry need to SIGN the offer before the rockets have time to match it?

did landry accept and sign this offer?

    Landry To Sign Offer Sheet

League sources have informed HOOPSWORLD that Rockets' restricted free agent Carl Landry will sign a three-year, $9 million offer sheet from the Charlotte Bobcats.

Once signed, the Rockets will have seven days to match the offer, a deal which would put the Rockets very close to the NBA luxury tax.

The Rockets have maintained all summer that they would match any deal given to Landry, and it seems Landry is ready to force the issue.

League sources said that Rocket's GM Daryl Morey flew out and met with Carl last week and tendered a new offer, rumored to be roughly half of what the Bobcats' are offering.

Sources said Landry is in Charlotte now, and the deal could become official later today.

    More as it develops.

The whole knee issue was a bs smoke screen just to scare off other teams and get him to sign a cheaper deal. Morey isn't concerned about it one bit. Remember he signed steve freaking francis who was done a long time ago to a contract and he had a history of knee problems.

If true, Morey will most likely match.

Yeah and francis knees were way more messed up than landry's "messed up" knees and morey gave him a contract no problem.

I hope Morey only said that to make other teams spend money! Or to just scare them :)

Actually, this is a tough situation for Morey! MJ and Larry Brown are not stupids.

    Think real fast...

How much was the contract Francis got?
How long was the contract Francis got?
How much of the MLE money did Francis dip into?
What other players did Francis's signing prevent the Rockets from striking their desired deals with?

The two situations are not analogous at all.

They aren't? Didn't Jordan draft Kwame Brown? and Brown got run out of new york...Irrelvelant though, because they also aren't the ones that understand the nitty gritty of the cap. That would be the Bobcats GM, Rod Higgins.

You think real fast. Landry's contract is roughly the same amount francis got and roughly the same amount of years, just one year longer. The landry contract prevents us from signing nobody. The francis contract cost us a cheaper landry contract for more years last year. Think before you type next time.

Francis got just over $2 million, the remaining portion of the MLE. The team had already signed the players they wanted with the MLE. He was a two year commitment, where Landy was asking for more. The team had already spent the rest of their MLE when they signed Francis. This time, there are two players they also have to consider using the MLE for besides Landry.

If it's for $3mill per, then we have $2.7mill of the MLE left over.

    Great deal for us!

    I'd assume it's an incremental increase - $2.5/$3.0/$3.5

IF so, then we still have $3.2mill to spend this season!

    Woo!
