Isn't that beautiful? He's signed for 2 more seasons at about the same rate too! What a steal. HE deserves close to 10 million if anyone else does on the team. Hopefully we have bird rights when the time comes.
Yes, that´s how a player shows how willing he is to come and play to the NBA, not like some euros now saying "i will go to the nba if i get X cash and play Y minutes". I was wondering why Houston didn´t put a team option for one or maybe two years on Landry contract. I ´m quite sure Landry would have agreed to something like that by the time he was drafted.
I am sure they will have to work out a (more reasonable) extension for Scola next summer... As to Landry: 2 mil + a 1 mil shoe deal
You do know that the U.S. dollar is practically 1/2 the value of the Euro right now... I do agree with you though that Scola really showed how much of a man he was taking a huge pay cut and also risking his reputation by coming to the NBA and possibly going from star to scrub. Kudos to him.
Of course i know, but by the time a player is in position to come over to the NBA usually it is because he has been playing a major role in his euro team for many years, with that money they have enough to live well, then there is a point when you have to choose to risk some money and see if you are up to compete with the best, or if you get the money and end wondering "what if". I guess Scola didn´t want to be a "what if" guy.
That figure is silly. A second round pick on bad knees is not getting over $8 million a year in his second year. It's not even worth talking about.
Could somebody please explain the BYC rule? I'm sure it's been done a thousand times, but I can't remember how it works.
This leaves me wondering why didn't Morey sign him to a two deal deal or something and not just a one year deal when he went to lengths to try to get the guy. Morey specifically traded for him and didn't even give him a reasonable deal. By the way I think most teams would rather draft a big PF in the first round of the draft instead of paying something more than half the MLE to Landry.
The writer got caught out by the Gilbert Arenas rule. Landry if he gets the full MLE and the Rockets give him 10.5% increases (other teams can only offer 8%). The max 3 year contract for him is c. $19.95M (other teams c. $19.48M)
I will take Leon Powe, Paul Millsap over Landry right now for sure. The kid is good but also we are hyped because Juwan Howard, Mo Taylor's been manning the 4 for so long, so our expectation is pretty low. Realistically, Landry is just an above average prospect with bad knees, IMO. I hope Morey doesn't overpay.
I'd hope they can swing him for David Lee. Landry seems to be D'Antonio type of player. The media have been speculating Lee isn't. I can't believe some posters think Landry is better than Lee.
I would swap Landry with Lee in a heartbeat. There are so many late first round, 2nd round power forwards that can finish strong and rebound lately. Landry is not the best on that list.
I would keep Landry over Lee.....we have a Lee type of player in Scola, actually one that is more skilled with the ball.... We need more explosive players like Landry who can come in and change the game.... Lee would be a lessor version of Scola. DD
Why get all worked up over something that can't happen? As a couple of folks have already pointed out no team (including Houston) can offer Landry more than the MLE. It's simply not allowed by the CBA, When it's all said and done I expect him to sign a deal similar to what Amir Johnson or Blatche signed last year.
landry and lee are actually pretty similar, and i would venture that landry has a slightly better outside shot. its not just about landry as much as it is about landry next to Yao. that being said, i will would take lee if they can swing that.
Lee is good but he can't score. That's why D'Antoni wants to get rid of him. D'Antoni likes guys who can create their own shot. Lee is a hustle player who can't really score the way D'Antoni wants.
