landry's contract better not be as atrocious as cato's, moochie's, moTay's, etc. you get my drift.

We're done with those dumb contracts.

motay got his contract on potential to do something that he never showed, particularly be a consistent rebounder. cato's contract was based on ONE preseason game, and moochie's well we still haven't figured that out. what landry showed during the streak was EXCEPTIONAL. the only thing I worry about is his health. he has already shown the willingness to work hard just based on what he came in to camp as and what he morphed into.

The author is mistaken. We don't have bird rights on Landry and are limited to using our MLE to re-sign him. That's the max he can get, as the rules allow other teams to offer only what we can match. Someone google "Gilbert Arenas Rule" and you'll see what I mean.

Given the injury history of this team, and the fact that a "bump" on his bad knee reduced his game by about 70% are serious concerns. We can't carry anymore "fragile" players. The Rockets need to get a second medical evaluation before they put too much money into Landry. Before his injury, I would have probably said go all out to keep him, but now there is reason for concern.

yes, the 5-6 mill would be a chance. but... lets say you have a chance at mike miller... or maggate for landry. wouldn't you take it? and mo taylor seemed to quit after he got his big contract. even though landry seems to be hard working, but he could always be one of those players that just quit after they get the money.

anyways, he is not worth 8-10 million. and that is for sure.

I wonder if the author of this article is employed by Carl Landry's agent.

mike miller and maggate definetly fill needs, and we already have scola (wow, I can't believe we've finally solved the pf problem) a big guard is a priority now.

Absolutely silly to think we're going to pay Landry triple what Scola makes to be his 15-20 mpg backup. If he wants more than $4 million per year, S&T him without thinking twice. He's nice, but not so nice that Hayes and Harris couldn't make up for him.

I don't really see it that way. He took a small, one year, good faith deal to come here after giving the Clippers 17-6. Rudy was ALWAYS hunting for the next Rudy T, and he loved MoT's outside game. Rudy never cared too much if his PF could rebound (inherited Otis, Barkley is the exception). He looked fine his first year (less points, but shot a higher percentage - almost 0.500 on midrange jumpers is pretty sweet), got his deal which would have been fair value. But he never recovered from the Achilles injury, losing his explosiveness and eating his way into a reserve role.

Don't think the salary rules of the NBA would permit any team, Rockets included, to offer Landry anything more than the MLE.

So no, not only is it unreasonable to offer him that amount, it is not even possible to do so, as far as I know, even if Landry got the MVP of last season.

id rather we use that much money to move to a better spot on the draft, to some team that needs cash than sign landry for a lot of money, or i rather use that mle for jr smith or some decent scoring threat. I like landry but he should get max 3 and for the other part of the mle i rather resign bonzi

Yea i love my boy Carl "Mutha %#!kin" Landry!!! But a 10 million dollar raise? Man that is a large amount to give him. I would compare him to a slightly less version of a Leon Powe in Boston. Powe maxes out at $797,581 for 2008/09. Landry does shoot or dribble as well as Powe. He is also not as quick as Powe. So by saying that, i believe he should get a similar salary as Leon Powe.

Yeah, if he's pulling that kind of offer, the SnT is the best move in my opinion. Mike Miller and Kirk Hinrich come to mind.

My thinking is that it will be a 3-year deal for $6-$7 million TOTAL. The author most likely made a typo here with the $8-$10/year comment. He most likely meant 3 years for $8-$10 total.

Scola is getting like 3 million, there is no way Landry should get more than that.

8-10 is ridiculous. we will NEVER win a championship if we're gonna pay role players that much

No way in hell he's worth 8-10 mil a year. If some other team offers him that, the Rockets should congratulate Landry and let him go.

4 mil is as high as I'd go. And 3 years max for the contract. That way if he has further knee problems, we're not stuck with another worthless player on a longterm deal.
