If that's true, then Scola is also better than almost all power forwards in the league, too. You're coming to this conclusion about Landry based on a small sample of games. You're talking about players on different teams, in different systems, with different roles on their teams. There is no direct comparison to be made, at least not accurately. Landry's good, but let's not go overboard.
And don't forget that Scola can only get his shot off butt naked. Come on, Leeb... exaggerate much? Why can't we revel in having two excellent 4's, who bring much different skill sets, driving our opponets crazy in the process. Like Brooks and Lowry. The main things they have in common are a lack of height and being very, very quick. Otherwise, they are quite different. I think that's two pairs of weapons Adelman is glad to have in his pocket.
Can you please explain why Landry is coming off the bench then? Landry is one of my favorite players, but that is a ridiculous statement.
Carl Landry has had these stretches of brilliance before and then sorta faded away. Grant a few times injuries (like getting shot in the leg) had hurt that...but I'd like to see him have a stretch of 14 out of 18 games like he did last night before I annoint him anything. Guys like Amare have been doing it for years. Don't get me wrong, it's great and exciting. But I also notice he doesn't always play with that level of intensity. I mean, the guy got every offensive rebound last night. Amazing.
Carl Landry is now leading all reserves in most 20-point games this year: http://www.basketball-reference.com...&c3val=&c4stat=&c4comp=gt&c4val=&order_by=pts
You know, Calderon posted dominant stats as a reserve as a well, look how he is right now as a starter.

Exactly. Not to mention that it wasn't more than a few games ago we were asking what happened and where the regular Carl was. He has those kinds of games too often where he's not a factor at all...and then flashes of brilliance. You just never know. He is gifted, though, and I would love to see some consistency in a long stretch, just as you said. Then I think you could consider this Carl's "breakout year", as everyone wants to call it.
Are you freakin kidding me? Amare is an all star, teams plans for him, teams double him, team focuses on shutting him down. Landry is yet to start in the NBA. Amare plays against starters, Landry comes in against the bench/tired starters.
I think it's so funny to hear the national media or people on here even that don't think the Rockets have any talent or stars.. I think we have a lot of talent, perhaps even star type players on the team, even without T-mac or Yao on the floor. Yeah they may not have national commercials, but they play like stars. The only reason Carl doesn't start is that we have an incredible talent like Scola. I think the coach must also feel that Landry is an energy player that is better for the team by coming off the bench. It's a toss up on who is better and they each have things they are better at.. I think we truly have two of the best power forwards in the league and wouldn't trade them for anyone. Carl was incredible last night and I thought he was going to put that game on his back and win it himself. He was so vicious down the stretch and determined to get those rebounds. It's a shame we didn't get that one, it's certainly not his fault. Who else have you seen that goes after stuff like that? Not only can he throw it down inside and get rebounds like crazy, he's a pretty darn good shooter and great free throw shooter. He really has the full package. Scola does a lot of similar stuff but uses more finesse inside with hook shots and angles, etc. Landry is more of an energy player, but Scola gets it done also. Have to give props to Chuck Hayes and Battier also. I didn't really see how good Hayes was until the last couple of years, maybe he keeps getting better also. He's just a really smart player and hard work just like Battier is. A lot of stuff from them doesn't show up in the stats. Great defenders, smart passes, and a lot of things you can really quantify. Again, wouldn't want to trade these guys. Hayes is actually a little more offensive this year, he's improved some their. Seems Battier is kind of timid to shoot lately, hope he gets back to shooting some, but he does so much else. Lowry has to be one of the better PG backups and Brooks is pretty darn good but a little inconsistent. They have to be on of the more productive PG duos out there. Love the pickup of Chase! Finally a shooter that can also really play. That was a great drafting job DM! He is 1 million times better than Von Wafer, that so many were upset about getting rid of, who was going to fill his spot they thought, what a joke.... Von was a back-up bench player you didn't want to bring in, only out of desperation, while Chase is actually good enough to be a starter on most teams. Really love our team and the only trades I would make are for some of the bench guys that never get playing time, but then who do you get and have to wonder that they would get time either. We have a great team and chemistry is so important and think were at the top of the league when it comes to that.
THIS THREAD IS NUTS!!!!!!!! yeah Landry is on the Rockets and is doing a wonderful ass job but lets not get carried away.
And I still want to know why Bobby Jackson started over Aaron Brooks. Landry has a face up game that a lot of great big men have: Duncan, Dirk, Gasol and even Stoudemire. The big difference this season from the last two are that his handles have improved and he is getting more PT with Hayes and Artest are out of the 4 spot. There has been a good scouting report out for Landry the last couple seasons, but because he has improved his handles and with more playing time teams will scout him differently: looking to double him, front him and cut the inside lane off forcing him to pass. I am not sure how great a passer Landry is but it is something he needs.
Here's a nice blog on the Dream Shake about Landry and his star qualities: http://www.thedreamshake.com/2009/12/6/1188369/maybe-the-rockets-do-have-a-star?ref=yahoo
6th man of the year? he has a shot. better than amare? i think not. but, home sweet home. it's the holidays...
Landry is my favorite player but this is kida ridiculous....everyone knows that amare cant guard a manikin...but he is that tier above landry.... BUT....if landry continue playing like this thru the all-star break...then this argument isnt ridiculous
