Landry is on a one year contract? Does it have a team option ? If they signed him strictly to a one year deal that would be just stupid on Morey's part....and it means he could leave next year and we get nothing for the million we spent to acquire the pick. Not to mention he really looks like the type of player the Rockets need....good athlete, heady and aggressive. DD
Thanks Longhorn Fan, Landry doesn't look slightly undersized to me, especially when you add in the sick hops.
That would make much more sense, get us early bird rights and have him at the team's option for next year. I would be shocked if they signed him to just a one year deal, unless he took less money to make it happen. DD
Hoopshype listed a team option for next year... Well, the Rockets can match up to the MLE, right? So unless someone offers him more money than that(EXTREMELY unlikely), it's not too big of a deal.
I always thought Landry probably had the highest PER of all the rookies, so I decided to find out. Landry's PER is at 36.5. Obviously he's got to play a lot more for stats to be significant, but ... that is REALLY impressive.
Gabe Pruitt, picked right behind Landry at 32nd, got a 3 year deal with last year team option. $650,000, $711,517, $729,005 Nick Fazekas and Glen Davis, picked 34th and 35th, got deals similar to Landry. 33rd pick Marcus Williams is in the D-League, got cut by the Spurs (2nd round picks have non guaranteed contracts).
If Landry was nearer to Duncan, that would not have been a goaltending but a block. But then, the effort was there and the ability to block is there. So I am impressed.
Even though, he has been touted as a great shooter, he has only taken 2 shots away from the basket. He's pretty good at grabbing the rebound and going right back up for a dunk. Chuck can't rebound and dunk as well. Chuck can only make the basket with a running start and a good pass.
Well you gave a great example of why Landry got hosed on salary. Gabe Pruitt. Who?? http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/5175299.html http://clutchfans.net/players/carl_landry/ Landry signed a 1-year contract worth the league minimum on Dec 31, 2007. Will be a free Agent in 2008.
Team option or not? HoopsHype has a $711,000 team option in year 2. I am afraid that he took less money in order to be a complete Free Agent next year, that would be bad. Also not sure about Hoopshype's accuracy because if I am not mistaken Steve Francis has a players option for next year....and it is not listed there. DD
If I read correctly of past articles, the Rockets used money that was supposed to give Landry a standard 2nd rounder contract to sign Francis. So I'm deducing that they lowballed Landry because maybe they were still wondering about his knee, and they just acquired Scola. Unless some other team offers him ridiculous money we shouldn't have a problem resigning him or matching any other teams offer.
In person, he doesn't look nearly that size. He doesn't look very tall at all, and he's really thin, especially in his lower body. He looks much smaller (and even shorter) than Hayes. Up close, I thought his size compared closer to Snyder's than any of the PFs on the team.
