Landry grabs more rebounds than Stromile in half the minutes. 4.3 rebounds in 8 min > 3.9 rebounds in 16 min. Landry is a better offensive player than Stromile. 72% > 51.2% Landry is a better FT shooter than Stromile. 100%> 65% Landry protects the ball better than Stromile. 0.2 TO > 1.2 TO Stromile is only good for 0.9 more blocks in twice the minutes. 1.1 > 0.2
Who is this kid named Landry and where in the hell did he come from?? Damn... sweet game from the kid. You've gotta love it!
Man, if Landry could ever progress defensively to anywhere close to what Chuck gives us, he's THE ideal PF next to Yao for the next 8 years. Athletic, good jump shooter, athletic, high motor, finishes string, athletic... he's got the whole package to be a great fit next to "The Big Wall". I think we need to see how he plays for a little while longer getting consistent, meanigfull minutes. I'm just not ready to annoint him THE main backup big man or THE starter. Things are looking good though. Keep working on the D!!!!
Landry looked like he had a very good jumper in pre-season. After the Wolves game Bullard said he'd been working on his 3-pointers so his shooting form must be pretty decent. In pre-season he didn't have this kind of lift, but appears to have regained it. It was reported that he was the 5th best athlete in the draft, but I wonder if he was healthy when he was tested? If this guy can learn to defend, or dribble at all, Morey might have unearthed a gem in the draft.
I think Landry was a decent 3pt shooter. But of course nothing is guaranteed, just like Hayes once averaged almost 80% on his FT in college.
Landry is by far the most efficient rebounder among rookies, about 24 per 48 minutes. That is crazy numbers.
He didn't tonight but he has in some of the time he's gotten the last couple of weeks. Wait till you see it. He is a very good mid-range jumpshooter, much better than Scola. For a point of comparison, think of Boozer's jumpshot, in both accuracy and form. I am NOT saying Landry is as good a player as Boozer.
He just go for everything, he got heart, hustle, passion. Our 3 PF got something in common. HEART, HUSTLE, PASSION, YOUTH. But they all give us something deferent. Landry: Athletisicm Chuck: Strength Scola: Skills Now RA go and mix and match how you want.
Enlighten me. How should we use and compare the +/- numbers of Scola, Landry, and Hayes tonight so we can gauge what their value was to the game?
I don't remember seeing Landry taking any J's on those recent games he's played in either. Just a half hook shot putback in the Minny game. Sorry to keep contradicting you, but I don't think Landry has taken any J's since he's gotten minutes in the recent games he's been in. Not saying I don't believe you, but I actually haven't seen it myself. Maybe you're still thinking of the summer games. I'm sure he does have a great J, can't wait for him to incorporate it into upcoming games. I'll try to dig up the summer game highlights to see it.
Maybe it was earlier in the season, but Landry has displayed his J during the regular season, probably during garbage time. You won't find much in summer league highlights because he wasn't very good and didn't show much of anything. After summer league, my thoughts (and most everyone else's) was how disappointing Landry was.
Landry had a great 18 foot jumper at Purdue. From what I have seen of his play so far in the NBA I think he could potentially turn into a Boozer type player. He was the only offensive threat that Purdue had. Yet somehow, Purdue still managed to get into the NCAA tournament only to go down to eventual National Champion Florida. Landry and the smaller Boilers gave Noah, Brewer and Horford all they could handle. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/news?slug=jo-midwest2007florida031807&prov=yhoo&type=lgns "They made us grind," Florida guard Lee Humphrey said. When the Boilermakers shoved, the Gators finally shoved back. They got the ball inside to Al Horford and watched their 6-foot-10 center bull his way toward the basket and score on a series of turnaround bank shots. At times, the smaller Boilermakers had no choice but to foul the bigger Gators, and Florida’s players took advantage, making 27 of 31 shots from the free throw line. Those were about the only uncontested shots the Gators could find with Purdue’s defenders sticking on the Gators as if attached by Velcro. When it was over, Noah and Horford didn’t even bother to look for Donovan until they found Carl Landry and embraced in a sign of respect. "I didn’t know much about him before the game," said Noah, who saw more than enough Sunday while watching the 6-foot-7 Landry score 18 points and grab 10 rebounds. Landry was outsized, and so were his teammates. Which is why most people will be asking what was wrong with the Gators rather than what went right in the final minutes. The same way they were asking what went wrong when Florida fell behind scrappy Jackson State in the first round rather than what went right in a 112-69 victory. "We are celebrating," Horford said on Sunday, as if trying to convince himself as much as trying to convince the gathered media. "We advanced to the Sweet 16. It’s a big deal." Noah called it something else. "It’s survival of the fittest," he said.
No kidding. He was getting over an injury, wasn't he? Guess that's why we have a staff that makes the draft picks, instead of fans like us. I wouldn't have picked Brooks or Landry, but both appear to be good players to have in the rotation, and possibly better than good.
I think in the summer league he was a bit overwhelmed. Besides I think Landry plays better within a system and there's not a lot of system in place in summer league. Coaches told Landry to focus on rebounding because they already knew he could score.
Among our big men, Yao, Hayes, and Scola all play on the floor. We need someone like Landry who can play above the rim. And I can't bear watching Chuck miss those wide open layups any more. I like Chuck's effort but he ain't got no offense.
