I say we still need to start Scola......and bring Landry off the bench, he's our 6th/energy man this year. Remember without Deke, Scola is going to be logging minutes as the backup 5, so both Scola AND Landry are going to get starting minutes....it's really not a issue. Scolandry lives!...
Not this good, the guy was automatic, he nailed one that if he just took one step back would've been good for 3. I remember hearing reports that he was working on his outside shot, but damn....even I didn't expect this.
I don't think anyone said otherwise. Scola is definitely the starter. Landry provides that spark off the bench that Scola couldn't if he were to come off the bench.
Oh it's fine......honestly I think Scola and Landry are equally talented, they just have different strengths, which is why when you mix them together it makes one badass PF. Having two starting caliber PFs who fill eachother's weaknesses on your team isn't a bad thing.......It's a GREAT thing.
fortunately had morey signed back landry who is worth far far far more than just 9000thousand/one third of decade.
By "drive", what exactly do you mean? He was actually putting the ball on the floor and dribbling past his defender? I wasn't aware he had the handles for that and would be pleasantly surprised. Though I assume you most likely mean he was taking 1 to 2 dribbles before going up.
He had one play where he was a step or two inside the 3 point line and he took his man off the dribble. I can't remember if it was a straight up play or if the defense was rotating and he took advantage of them getting reset, but the end result was he got past his man enough to draw help defense, and found another of our bigs under the basket for an easy layup (I believe it was Hayes). That impressed me, but I don't know if it could be a consistent part of his game. He had another drive where he faked a long jumper and drove around his man but couldn't quite get past him enough to get a clean shot and took kind of a running jumper bankshot that was just off (for those that saw the game, this was that MONSTER putback slam by Mike Harris). What DID impress me about Landry was it appears his jumper is as smooth as last season, but has added range. As someone just mentioned, the last jumper he took for a foot or two away from being a 3 pointer. At one point he had the ball out past the 3 point line and his man was understandably sagging off him. Landry actually went in to his shooting motion for a half a second and then thought better of it. When I saw that, I wondered to myself if he had been working on his outside shot enough in the offseason that he felt comfortable shooting 3 pointers. That long jumper he hit later on confirmed that to me. I don't know if I want him out at the 3 point line much, but it would be nice if that was part of his game. As for the post up stuff, he never actually had a post up set, per se. I could see how some people might think his post up game was improved with some of his offensive rebounds where he comes down the ball and makes a move right under the basket to hit a hook shot or something. But those aren't really post moves, just finishing moves, which we already knew he had. I do believe he could develop a post game, but I haven't seen evidence of one yet. I'll tell you who definitely does NOT have a post up game. Dorsey.
I said last year that if Landry stayed healthy and developed a 3 point shot he was going to be unstoppable. A lot of posters thought that was crazy for him to even consider the 3 point shot. But if he becomes a 40% 3 point shooter, he will earn himself a lot of money in this league. He'll be a $10 mill per year player after his current contract expires if he gets that 3 point jumper down.
He is definitely worth the MLE and I am glad he is not holding any grudges after what Morey did to him in the summer (another attempt to undermine his worthiness because his knee).
If you guys didn't see how good this guy was last year, you're blind. for those who say he's developing a post up game, he had it last season. he had a jumper last preseason, his jumper was the first thing I noticed about him last october. if the rockets would have let this guy go, I would have given up on the stat guy running personnel. he shouldn't have even fooled around with this contract and when this contract is up I hope it isn't a sore spot for landry when he can truly get paid. he is the best power forward on the roster. luis has a nice all around offensive game, and he is a hustler but landry is just a raw force, with some nice skills such as the jumper.
Landry sounded upset about Morey preposterous claim on his knee injury particularly when Morey insisted on a scope. I believed a lot ppl would be upset too if your GM play such low-ball tactics. I am glad he get over it without much fuss (show that his good character). Some players may "pout" after such a horrible/low-balled contract negotiation.
I really like this kid! That said he is what he is. A GREAT role player who makes big contributions coming off the bench. It was one preseason game against the grizzlies and we are throwing him in the starting lineup? Calling him Karl Malone? Come on guys.... I love the rockets too and it has been a long time but Scola is the starter and should be. Landry is great at what he does when healthy and I for one am glad that we did not overpay for a bench player.
He has always had a good midrange shot, but he just rarely used it. I think with him being more comfortable he will use it more, as well he should.
Landry's jummping ability is back as well as an improved mid-range shot (which he allways had but it just seems to be more polished).
