I think the thing I love the most about Landry is the way his strengths PERFECTLY complement Yao's. The guy is a spectacular finisher, a tenacious rebounder and a high energy guy that can also stretch the defense outside and play smart. If he continues to improve, he could be an All-Star...but even if he didn't. Even if the skills Landry has shown so far this season are all he EVER develops as an NBA player, it would still be exactly what we need from our PF as this team is currently constructed (with a healthy Yao).

landry is a great player. there are a few things that concern me with him though. he seems to have a mcgradyish vibe that makes him think hes on top of the world. IM not saying he is like mcgrady but its similar. he is young and with the good couching staff i dont think that will be an issue tho. Brooks on the other hand seems very humble and even when he had good games you never saw a different vibe just the humble one he alwasy has presented. he takes direction and critisism well which is why i think he will be groomed to be a big part of the rockets in the future.. as for landry he is a beast i just hope he doesnt bulk up too much and start looking like the chuck wagon lol.. bulking up too much is a disadvantage at times. lets hope for good health for him and that he keeps up playing this well and im pretty sure he will.. thats all

What's so different about Landry is how he attacks the basket DIRECTLY..

A lot of guys with big hops who like to make highlight-reel dunks - such as Swift - like to attack the air *around* the rim, and then come DOWN on it. Makes for a nice splashy move, but it's not efficient.

Landry (at least not yet anyway) doesn't do this. He launches like a missile directly at the rim itself - in fact that is why he has to do that little 'pump' move so often, just to get past the rim - and this gives defenders less space and time to defend against the attack.

That's why comparisons to people like Kemp and Swift don't do anything for me.. This kid is like a pit bull, a maniacal machine with only two purposes: 1) GET the ball, and 2) PUT it in the hoop through as direct a route as possible. He's like Rodman on #1, and like Barkley on #2.

Yeah, a combination of Barkley and Rodman.. I can live with that.. ;)

ESPN 50 Rooks or something of the sort:

The Rockets have the luxury of playing Carl Landry behind Scola, making Houston strong at the power forward position. Landry could start for some teams right now and is going to be a relative force in this league. Amazingly, at 24 years of age, he's not even the oldest rookie on the team (Scola turns 28 in April).

if already posted turd on you.

He is up to #12 in rookie ranking. No doubt with Yao not playing he will be in top 10 possibly top 5 rookies along with Scola! Two top five rookies with two second round picks. :D

every time one of them strips yao, landry will strip one of theirs back

landry is a good complement to yao and mac because he doesn't need the ball in his hands a lot to be effective. he can create his own shot with rebounds, create possessions for the team and can find spacing to get open and hit the mid ranged jumper. and he brings athleticism and dunks which yao does not

a guy like landry who's always on the ball would be a good fit on most any team but for this team he (and scola) are a perfect fit for any holes they have. right now the 4 spot is a huge advantage for houston and a mismatch for many teams in the league... combined they're like a 17/10 guy who also gets 2-3 steals/takeaways a night and can give up 10 fouls per game

Wow. Landry has a PER of 23.19

Horford and Scola are around 15. Landry would be ranked #13 in PER in the entire NBA if he had enough minutes. Actually higher than Boozer.

Is he really that good? Only time will tell.

This dude has Carlos Boozer written all over him.

All he will do is improve and become a great PF in this league.

Only thing is you hope he doesn't pull a Boozer and skip town!

Some guy on ESPN emphatically screamed out Landry is the steal of the draft.

Hey I already knew that but it's nice to hear someone else say it. Now we have a bigger problem. If we make the playoffs and he kicks butt he will be on everyones radar and all you have to have is one team that wants to give him a 50 million dollar contract ala Boozer and it's all over.

I vote for benching Landry and bringing him out in only desperate win situations.

I vote for that too....don't want to play him too much and showcase his skills to other teams. We already know what he's capable of.

Hey, if some team is crazy enough to give him 50 mil, then I don't wanna know what established stars are gonna get in free agency this offseason.

The question will be... "is he loyal enough to the Rockets to stick with them?"

    I love this dude...he's nuts!

We need to give him a nickname.

    Mandry, Boilermaker, Landromat, and Lando....

Wow, impressive stat. Al. Horford is ROY material, I can't believe Landry's injuries had him overlooked that much. I have complete confidence in Morey and his scouting team with the way they've acquired Scola and Landry

hmm I dunno. boozer is better around the basket and has a better touch. but the pieces are there for landry. he's a little old but hey in 2-3 years with the way he's rebounding he could easily be a 15/11 guy with 30 minutes a game. he needs to improve his free throw shooting and his touch around the basket, but this guys has a HUGE work ethic so I can see all these things happening. hopefully his work ethic rubs off on green and brooks. these 3 are our future man. you can already see it building.

    brooks
    head
    green
    landry/novak
    WE NEED SOME CENTER PROSPECTS

we could probably use a real SG prospect too.

    guys we should look at:

    SG courtney lee/chris douglas roberts
    C Hasheem Thabeet/devon hardin?

    hmm I do like lee.

Landry may have played himself to get paid one year earlier since he doesnt have a 2 year rookie contract. But it's hard for other team to prey him away because he's a RA. It just like last season's Amir Johnson. And nobody will be crazy eough to throw him a full MLE. I guess Landry may command 3-4 year contract of half MLE.
