Its been so long since I've posted.......... I was just wondering if anyone could help me out. I am starting college in 3 weeks and I believe this major is the one for me. I've gone back and forth between this one and others(mainly business related fields). I know that a degree in political science will prepare me for many fields, such as journalism, government jobs, teaching, law school, etc. But is there anyone out there who maybe who has majored in political science and could help me out. I love this subject, but I also want to know that there are jobs out there when I graduate.
You can teach, but you knew that. I was poli sci and have a lot of friend who didn't want to work for the government so they went in house for a large corporation. Most large multinationals have 'government' departments that keep track of upcoming legislative or regulatory issues that the company needs to keep an eye on. For example, one friend worked for Weyerhauser (sp?). Others work for the petroleum industry (either domestic legislative/regulatory or foreign assessment -stability etc). You can go non-profit or think-tank, although the think tank jobs are harder to come by than teaching gigs.
I have a friend who majored in political science. He currently works with Avis rent-a-car. He makes pretty good money, but I don't think he utilizes his poli-sci degree too much on the job.
i am majoring in poli sci and looking to get into the officer program with the navy. they offer a lot of advantages the private sector cannot immediately offer. i am also doing it because the money they will give me for college when i am getting my masters. just speak with your advisor and they would know much more.
